My Sexy Saturday #11: Leonardo DiCaprio is a Vampire

Happy Saturday one and all! I'm taking today's Sexy Saturday post from my book, Leonardo DiCaprio is a Vampire, which comes out with Torquere next month. And for those who may remember it from before - from the publisher who shall not be named - I've added to it with Hunter's POV.

Hunter and Fisher have been best friends forever. But Fisher feels more than that, feelings he must hide to ensure that he not lose their friendship. Could he be wrong about Hunter's lack of interest in him? Here I present to you their first kiss. Enjoy!

Don't forget to check out the rest of the bloggers here.

Fisher trembled, waiting for something to happen. He didn't have to wait long. Suddenly those beautiful lips were touching his, and then they were kissing, truly kissing. No, it wasn't Fisher's first kiss, but it was his first with a man. His only kiss with a man. And he was amazed at what a difference there was between this kiss and the others. Not because of gender, but because it was with Hunter.

He felt himself giving in to those lips, melting into that touch, with a heat that penetrated his entire body, vibrating in its intensity. Now Hunter was nibbling at his lips, soft tender kisses that shook him to his very foundation. His head was reeling, and he was on the verge of losing all sense of self when he felt the first raindrops splash upon his upturned face.

Sexy Snippets #11: Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire

Happy Sunday and welcome to Sexy Snippets! Today's snippet comes from my Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire, which will be released by Torquere Press in October. You may recall that it was previously released by a publisher which shall remain nameless. Since that time, I have added about 7k to it in the form of a second POV, namely that of Hunter Long.  I have chosen their first kiss for today. Enjoy! And don't forget to visit the other participants in the hop, whom you'll find here.

Fisher trembled, an expectant trembling, as if he were waiting for something to happen. Because Hunter was someone special.

I can't show you a cover yet, because there isn't one, of course. But I can show you my inspirations for Hunter and Fisher.

Swept Away - Day Three

Day three of the Swept Away Valentine's Day Blog Hop! I thought I had a guest today but I was wrong, so I'm going to talk about two more of my couples. First, Hunter Long and Fisher Roberts, from Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire. It was previously published with the publisher who shall be nameless, but I have actually added about 7k to the story in the form of Hunter's POV, and have subbed it elsewhere. I believe this addition rounds out the story nicely. I hope those who've read it will think so too.

I can't show you the previous cover, for obvious reasons, but I can show you my inspirations for these two.

Hunter Long

Fisher Roberts

The inspiration for this story came when my daughter and I went to see Inception at the theater. I was thinking about Leonardo di Caprio and how he looks pretty much the same as he did years ago. Suddenly a voice in my head said, Did you know Leonardo di Caprio is a vampire? And a story was born!

Note: For you trivia fans, Fisher Roberts' name was derived from the Cillian Murphy character - Robert Fisher - reversed it and added an ess.

Blurb:  ‘Tis the night before Halloween, and Fisher Roberts wishes it was over, not being a fan of this or any other holiday.  But he tolerates it because his roommate/best friend Hunter Long takes a childish glee in all things Halloween.  And Fisher has a vested interest in keeping Hunter happy.  If only he could find the nerve to tell his childhood friend that he loves him, and has for a very long time.

Fisher thinks Hunter is carrying things a bit far this year, though.  First Hunter claims to be a vampire, and he just won’t let the silly joke go.  Then he forces Fisher to go to a costumed Halloween party which Fisher would rather avoid, especially when he realizes where it’s being held, and whose house it is. Things at Fisher’s job might just be going south, too, when he receives a mysterious summons to report to the editor’s office the next morning.  And then Fisher goes and does something stupid—like kissing Hunter!

Bad leads to worse when Fisher ends up at the Halloween party from Hell, and he learns something that threatens to destroy his and Hunter’s relationship forever.  Running from his fears, Fisher encounters a strange young man with an unusual resemblance to Leonardo di Caprio, who shows him things he never realized before, truths about his life and the people in it.

Can Fisher find his way back to Hunter, and can he find the courage to do what his heart wishes?

My next couple is a new one - Reed Hatcher and Fabrintazo (Taz for short). They are the leading men of a novella written by M.A. Church and myself called Be My Alien, and it's the first book in our Moonlit Skies series. Be My Alien is going to be released by Dreamspinner in May or June of this year, so look for it! Once again, no cover - yet - but we have a little promo pic for it.

Blurb:  Reed Hatcher’s life is work, work, work. He owns a successful men’s boutique in New York City, but a love life is out of the question—for many reasons. It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and business is brisk. On an unexpected visit to the Empire State Building, a sexy man literally falls into Reed’s lap. His name is Taz and he’s just been dumped by his date. One look and Reed is hooked. He offers to buy Taz some coffee and they leave together.

Reed is attracted to Taz and takes him home to his apartment. But Reed discovers there’s more to Taz than he realized—especially when Taz’s stripes begin to show. And he has a tail? Turns out Taz is not quite like Reed. In fact, he comes from another planet, far far away, and he’s only on Earth for a vacation.
Reed never believed in aliens before, but he’s facing one now, and dear God, what is he going to do? Just when he decides he loves Taz and together they can handle anything, the alien that dumped Taz decides he wants him back and steals him away.

Can Reed live with the memory of what he almost had, and the love he found and lost? How can he ever face the moonlit skies again?

And now here are the inspirations for Reed and Taz (just imagine Taz has multi-colored calico hair lol)

Reed Hatcher

Taz

We are currently working on the second book in the series, which is untitled as of now.

Enjoy your day, and come back tomorrow for more of the same! Don't forget to comment and leave an email address!

Until next time, take care!

Six Sentence Sunday #2

Today I'm taking my six sentences from Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire. Fisher Roberts has had a crush on his best friend Hunter Long for a very long time, but never had the nerve to tell him. Is this the right time?

And yet the very next moment the most incriminating words in the world had left his lips, albeit in a very small, very tight voice. "Did you have sex with him?"
He felt the movement before he saw it. Hunter's face was closer to his than ever, those light blue eyes boring into his own. Fisher could do nothing but look back, speechless, as Hunter seemed to dive into his very soul through his eyes. "Never," he replied softly, his voice a husky whisper, "I could never do that to you."

Let me show you the inspirations for my guys.

Here's Hunter:   Look at those eyes. Gorgeous, right?

And here's Fisher:

And now their cat, Lady Madeline Usher:

Blurb:  “Tis the night before Halloween, and Fisher Roberts wishes it was over, not being a fan of this or any other holiday.

Excerpt:   “Did you know that Leonardo di Caprio is a vampire?”
Fisher Roberts stopped in mid-chew of a mouthful of fibrous cereal to cast a wary, disbelieving glance at his best friend and roommate Hunter Long on the other side of the table.  Wary, because he wondered what in the world Hunter was going on about so early in the morning.  Disbelieving, because he only had so much time for breakfast before he had to get going to work, and he had a bad feeling that Hunter was trying to eat into that time.  Why he wanted to do that was beyond Fisher.  Of course, a lot of things about his roommate were beyond Fisher, despite the fact that they’d been friends since they were—well, too young to actually remember how long they’d known each other.  But for as long as Fisher could remember, he and Hunter had been best buddies.  And he’d learned over the years that, with Hunter, longevity did not equate to knowledge-ability, far from it.
Now, Fisher could react in one of two ways.  He could ignore his roommate and keep eating.  Pretend he’d heard nothing.  But from past experience, that would only cause Hunter’s performance to escalate.  Which would entail taking more time to decipher what he was saying, and in the process make Fisher even later to work.   Or he could simply bow down to the inevitable and give in by asking him the question he was doubtless waiting to hear.  Even if it brought about that smug smirk he was so fond of wearing.
Fisher finished chewing, swallowed, and managed not to roll his eyes as he reached for his juice to kill off what was left in the glass.  Waste not, want not.  “What do you mean?”
Hunter Long might be six foot two and possessed of a body that many a male model would kill for—at least that’s what Fisher heard the girls who flocked around him say—with the palest of blue eyes that twinkled all the time, and a smile that could and did light up a room.  But honestly, he had the capacity to be an overgrown child at times, and this was one of those times.  Fisher chalked it up to it being that time of year.
“Well,” Hunter replied, “look at him, going on forty, and he looks just like he did what, fifteen years ago?  It only stands to reason he must be a vampire.  They never age, you know.  I mean take a look at us.  We’re almost his age, but over the years we’ll grow up to be little old men and he’ll still be playing sweet baby-faced guys even when he’s collecting social security, know what I mean?”
“There are no such things as vampires,” Fisher made his typical logical reply, “and just because it’s Halloween tomorrow night, and you’ve got the house all decorated for it, doesn’t mean you have to bring it to the table.  Know what I mean?”  He arched a no-nonsense brow at the other man.  This was not Fisher’s favorite time of year.  Neither was Christmas, come to think of it.  Or any other holiday.  Ironic that he should write articles for a living that meant he was forced to expound on such seasonal topics for Midwest Home and Fantasy, a regional online magazine with a growing fan-base, when he had no real interest in them himself, being a practical, no-nonsense kind of a guy.
“I’m a vampire.” Hunter smiled, leaning across the table toward Fisher.  “Want to see my fangs?”

Meet William and Misha!

Good morning and welcome to Meet Me in St. Louis! Just kidding, of course. That movie took place a long time ago. During the World’s Fair, in fact. 1904. But that’s okay, as I’ve taken the Wayback Machine to just that time, in order to talk to two people—William Deming and Misha Rumiantseva. They’re the stars of the novel, My Fair Vampire, which releases October 8th from Silver Publishing. They’ve kindly consented to this interview with me.  We’re standing at the Fair even now, on the Pike, that mile long strip where the vendors are located. Goodness but it smells good.

Misha has his arm securely about William’s waist and he looks very protective of William. I think it’s sweet, personally. He stands just behind him, his head resting on William’s shoulder as they both regard me.

“Well, shall we begin, gentlemen?” I smile at them. “So, William, why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself?”

“Good morning to you! Not much to tell with me, a simple boy from a large family of ten. Strict father of  course. We lived in the mountains, in Moab, in the southern part of the state.  I went away to university to study journalism at Brigham Young and then got a job in Salt Lake City, at the Utah Gazette. When the Fair was first announced, I prayed that my editor might send me on such a delicious assignment. Thank the heavens he did, for I have Misha in my life now, and forever.

Misha smiles at him, and they turn toward one another and exchange a kiss. Oh goodness, how I do love to see two people so very much in love!

“So you came to the Fair for your job and found love, how romantic! Misha, are you from around here, then?” His accent is foreign, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.

“Nyet,” he says, nuzzling gently at William’s neck. The blond blushes. Rather prettily, I must say. “I come from Russia. My aunt, she has a—how you say? A boarding house. She take in people. William come to stay, I meet him there.”

“Ah, a boarding house. There was a lot of that during the Fair, was there not?”

“Yes,” William replies. “The people fortunate enough to live in these magnificent houses took in boarders such as myself so we would be closer to the Fair.” I certainly chose the right one.” He kisses Misha again.  “The architecture is just splendid...all of these homes.

“I’d certainly love to see them, if that’s possible. Maybe you two could give me a tour of the boarding house—“
William glances at Misha, who shakes his head regretfully.

“I’m afraid that won’t be possible, Mrs. Hayes, I’m sorry,” William apologizes.

“Not a problem.” I smile at them. I hadn’t really expected it. I’m really grateful that they’ve taken this much time out of their busy schedules as it is.  I quickly glance at my notes. “I see the boarding house is within walking distance. Do you come to the Fair often? What are your favorite sights?”

"I came to the Fair a few times to write my story,” William says, “and blessedly it was within walking distance. As for favorite attractions, I'd have to say the Ferris Wheel. I didn't get to have quite the look around I wanted, though, I had something far more appealing in the cage with me at the time.” He grins at Misha, who smiles back at him. I want to squee just looking at them.

“I can imagine what, but surely you weren’t alone? I mean I read those cars hold up to like sixty people. How… that is…” I’m trying to be delicate here. “How frisky could you possibly get with witnesses?”

“Luckily the ride operator was kind enough to take a small donation to let us pass into the cage by ourselves. Splendid man.

I sigh. How romantic is that? Alone on the huge Ferris Wheel? “I understand there are many different kinds of food to be found at the Fair, some of them never seen before, as well as food from all around the world? Did you have any favorite foods?”

Misha makes a sound which almost seems to be a snort. “I did not eat… food at the Fair,” he says. I love his accent, it’s really hot. I look at William inquisitively.

“I must admit, of all the offerings which I was fortunate to be able to sample, I liked the hamburger the most. So delicious and so easy to hold! Though the waffle cones were very good, too. Such innovation!” He waxes enthusiastic, and I can understand why. The invention of the hamburger and the ice cream cone were important landmarks in American cuisine!

“Oh, before I forget, wasn’t there some sort of trouble at the Fair? Someone was killed, isn’t that true?”
Misha and William exchange glances.

“We must go,” Misha says abruptly. He takes a step backward, pulling William with him.

“Oh, really? Right now?” I cannot seem to hide my disappointment. I’d barely started with my questions on the murder. Why did they feel the need to leave right now?

"We must go...thank you for your time,” William says.

Misha smiles and suddenly I see—But no, I must be mistaken. I have an overactive imagination, I tell myself with a laugh, even as the two young men melt into the crowd around us.

Everyone knows there’s no such thing as vampires. Right?

Well, that’s it for me. I think I’ll walk around the Fair for a little bit, but I’ll be back!

Until next time, take care!

Meet Me in St. Louis!

On October 8th, my first joint venture with co-author S.L. Danielson will be released by Silver Publishing. It's entitled My Fair Vampire, and I'd like to tell you a bit about it, introduce you to the characters. If we're lucky, we might talk them into coming by the blog one day before the book releases!   Check out this awesome cover by the talented and gracious Reese Dante!

My Fair Vampire is an historical novel. It takes place in 1904, during the Louisiana Exposition, more commonly known as the St. Louis World's Fair. Here's our blurb:

In 1904, the world’s spotlight shone brightly on St. Louis, Missouri—gateway to the West and host of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Visitors came from all points of the globe to wonder, to gape, to taste, to explore and to enjoy the marvels which the World’s Fair had to offer. An ambitious young reporter from Utah, William Deming, sees his chance to not only visit the fair, but make a name for himself by reporting on its goings on. He takes a room in a boarding house, close to the Fair itself. What he doesn’t count on is meeting Misha—a young and handsome Russian, whose aunt owns the boarding house.

Misha is something William has never encountered before—a vampire! As if that isn’t enough to accept, when a man is discovered murdered at the Fair, William has to wonder if his Misha is involved. Especially as there seems to have been a connection between the vampire and the victim. Will an old flame cause new problems for William and Misha? Will they find love at the World’s Fair? Or will theirs be doomed to be a fatal attraction?

The bulk of the action in the book takes place either at the World's Fair or at the boarding house that is owned by Misha's aunt, where the young reporter, William Deming, is staying for the duration of his assignment at the Fair. The house is situated right on Lindell, within walking distance of the fairgrounds.

It helps that both SL and I live in the St. Louis area, and that we have access to these places. Although the boardinghouse itself is fictional, the place where the fair was held very much exists, although most of the buildings are long gone, only designed to be temporary. One - the Fine Arts Building - was built more securely, as it housed a lot of expensive artwork, and became our very own St. Louis Art Museum, a very wonderful place to spend time. I've spent a lot of time there and will again.

Standing outside the museum, you can look down Art Hill to the Grand Basin, and just imagine what it must have been like - brightly lit, crowded with eager, excited fairgoers. It must have been very exciting to be there. There is a small prologue at the beginning of the book which covers the Fair's origins and how it came to be. The Olympics were held here that same year.

William sees the Fair as his big journalistic break and he's determined to shine and be noticed by his editor! He doesn't figure on meeting anyone, much less the handsome reclusive Russian, who quickly fascinates him and mystifies him both.  Let me show you the inspirations for our fellows:

This is William Deming:

And this is Misha Rumiantseva.  Yeah, that's a mouthful lol

A man is found murdered at the Fair, and everyone blames Misha for it. Can William prove his lover's    innocence? If he's innocent? Find out when you meet them at the Fair.

Want to know more about my co-author/friend/bff/sister SL Danielson? Check out her blog, The Adventures of Author S.L. Danielson!

We've written another book, the first in a series we call The Mark of Love. The first book, Finding His Mark, has been subbed, we're waiting to hear now yea or nay. The second book is done, and we're working on the third. We like to call this our Cracker series, about two teenagers in rural Georgia. More about that later.

Come and meet us in St. Louis, return with us to the World's Fair, for romance, mystery, intrigue, and above all - love! You'll be glad you did!

Until next time, take care!

Ch-ch-ch-changes! Of HK, Chopped and more!

I am very proud to say that I've been taken on board as an editor for MuseItUp Publishing, and I have taken two manuscripts to content edit so far. Hopefully, they'll like what I do and will let me stay to do more. This is a great relief after the Wicked Nights debacle, which is still ongoing. We've not received reports or money for second quarter. Or money for first. It's ridiculous, and certainly unethical.

*********Spoilers ahead**************

Hell's Kitchen. I called that one. Elizabeth was undoubtedly the weak link, and had to go, based on recent   performances. I think I'm finally catching on. Elise is still there for aggravation value. Tommy for that wtf is he doing stupidity. I see in the next few episodes, in no particular order, Elise, Tommy and Paul being eliminated, and Jennifer and Will slugging it out toe to toe for the win.

I watched the first episode of Chopped Champions this morning. Some of the ingredients they have to deal  with would definitely stump me - I could never compete on a show like this, not without a lot of training first. Plus what do you do when you hate the ingredient? You have to use it anyway. Like port wine cheese. Don't like it. Don't like coconut. Or oysters. Quhogs are like oysters - who knew? I saw nopales used for the second time, this time in the dessert round. Cactus-like thing, slimy. The purpose of Champions is to pit previous winners against one another in four episodes, and in the fifth one, the four winners of those episodes will compete. In the first episode, a chef was chopped in the first round for missing two of the basket ingredients. A huge no-no! It came down to two guys, one of whom had a really big mouth. I think that was his downfall, cause his tart was both burnt and raw. He was chopped. Good episode.

We watched the second episode of Top Chef Just Desserts. I haven't decided if I like anyone yet, but Craig has definite issues. He's not just slow, he's challenged in some way I haven't put my finger on. I wonder how long he'll keep from being eliminated. To be honest, I'm not as interested in dessert shows as other cooking shows, they don't hold my interest, although I do like to watch them do some of the big cakes. Cupcakes seem limited to me, but if my daughters open a cupcake shop together, as they sometimes talk of doing, I'll be one hundred per cent behind them.

I'm proofing my audio book version of Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire for the second time. Only a few  changes had to be made, most of those because of mispronouncing one word - Rimbaud. I like this reader. I think his name is Jim Bowie. Can't wait for it to come ut, I'll keep you posted.   I'm working on the sequel to this, want to be done by the end of the year, and maybe have an edition which has both stories together.

I subbed Sex on the Beach Christmas Style to Silver for their Christmas subs (another victim of the WN train wreck). Cross your fingers for me!
Sui wrote a really great story for that, I read it yesterday - it made me cry. I'm sure she'll get in.

I can't wait for Justified to come back, I miss me some Raylan Givens! Next week is the season finale of The Glades, should be awesome. Then before long Vampire Diaries will begin its 3rd season - let's hope the writers get a clue, but I'm not holding my breath. If not for Damon/Ian Somerhalder, I'd never watch it. Hawaii 5-0 will be back too, can't wait for that, they sure left it on a great cliffhanger!

September already! The year is flying by! And so's this day, so gotta get back to it! Have anything to say, ask or comment or? I'd love to hear from you!

Until next time, take care!

Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire Day!

Today is the day! The release day of Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire at Silver Publishing!

I want to share with you my visual inspirations for my main characters

Fisher Roberts

Hunter Long

Mmmm mmmmm good!

In case you haven't heard my story of how I was inspired to write Leo, I'll tell it again.  Pull up a chair. Here, let me make some tea or coffee for you.  Comfortable?  Good.

It was last year and my daughter Sarah wanted to see Inception. I wasn't sure that I wanted to, but since she'd gone to see Sorceror's Apprentice with me, twice, I gave in and agreed to go. Which led me to thinking about Leonardo di Caprio and other films we'd seen him in (such as Shutter Island, which was really good). When we were in the theater, I heard a voice in my head tell me that Leo must be a vampire, because he never ages! "Did you know Leonardo di Caprio is a vampire?" he said.

I realized it was a new character speaking to me, but I had no way of writing down his words inside a darkened theater. So I repeated them to myself throughout the film, so that I'd remember them. Inception was a really good film, and I kept thinking about it on the drive home. I knew I needed names for my couple (I already realized that it would be a m/m romance story). Cillian Murphy's character in the film is Robert Fisher, a name you hear quite often, being a pivotal character. I flipped that and voila! Fisher Roberts. Now I needed a name for his cohort. Driving home, I devoured all the billboards and ads I could see. There was one that had to do with hunting, which I am not particularly in favor of, and it hit me - not hunting, but Hunter. A strong name and a good one. So Hunter Long was born. It was his voice which had spoken to me in the theater. When I got home, I started writing about Fisher and Hunter. It didn't occur to me til some time later that their names paralleled one another - a hunter and a fisher. It wasn't intentional, it just happened.

Here's the cover for Leo, designed by the gloriously talented Reese Dante. She did an amazing job, I can hardly keep from staring at it!

Excerpt:  Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire

“Did you know that Leonardo di Caprio is a vampire?”

Fisher Roberts stopped in mid-chew of a mouthful of fibered cereal to cast a wary, disbelieving glance at his best friend and roommate Hunter Long on the other side of the table.
