EXCERPT:

Eila exhaled and her shoulders slumped. Her head felt stiff with anxiety. She unlatched the perpetual hair clip at her nape. Her dark, voluminous hair broke free and cascaded down her back, swirling in gentle curves. Picking up her bag, she went to the door.

“Oh!” She jerked back as the door opened from the other side. It was Brett.

He could only stare at her. “Finally,” he voiced faintly, his expression tender.

“Wh-what?” Eila stammered, confused by his affectionate gaze. Brett advanced into the room and Eila retreated. Brett stopped close to her. His fingers gently caught her chin and raised her face to his. His touch froze Eila. Wordlessly, she stared deep into his eyes. Everything else just melted away. Eila’s breath lodged in her throat as Brett’s fingers roughly and then gently and then roughly again stroked her plump lower lip. His eyes were fixed on her lips. Brett’s own mouth parted in anticipation of a kiss.

Eila thought she would explode with desire. Brett’s spicy smell assailed her and the more she looked into Brett’s eyes the further removed she became from everything coherent. Eila’s eyes felt heavy. Sighing, she lowered her lashes as she swayed toward Brett.

His mouth lightly caressed her cheek. Eila blindly turned her face into Brett’s. She delicately shivered at the sensation Brett was causing as he nudged and rubbed under her ear.

Eila’s shiver drove Brett wild. His mind started imagining ways to make her shiver more. There was something very sacred about the way he touched her. Desire wasn’t far away, their hoarse breaths indicated.

There was a loud knock on the door and Judith called out loudly, “Brett, your cab is here!”

Shocked, Eila’s closed eyes sprung open and jerked away. Her mind was spinning.

Brett caught Eila’s arm and pulled her back close to him.

INTERVIEW 6
Q: What is the sweetest thing someone has done for you?
A: My husband always brings in my birthday sharp at 12 in the night with flowers, cake, card and my gift. The sweetest part is that he has been doing this since the year we married and we will be celebrating fifteen years of marriage next year.

Q: How would you spend ten thousand bucks?
A: Take my family for a vacation or go to India to visit my mom and definitely give something to charity.
Q: Where do you get your best ideas?
A:  Usually when I’m driving by myself or at night in the bed.
Q: What comes first, the plot or characters?
A: Mostly the plot. However, for Only Wheat Not White, the character, Eila,  came first and then the plot.
Q: What does your main character do that makes him/her special.
A: My main character, Eila, never gives up on people she cares for, that’s what makes her special. For her a problem is not big or small it is an opportunity to find a solution.

Only Wheat not White

Author: Varsha Dixit
Publisher: Penning Publishing
American release date: June 2, 2014
Format/Genre/Length: eBook/romantic comedy/262 pages
Overall Personal Rating: ★★★★

Eila Sood travels from India to New York in order to mend the fences between her family and her estranged older sister, Sheela. Beginning with her flight, anything that can go wrong does. Not to mention she keeps finding herself up against a incredibly good-looking blue-eyed ogre, who sees her at her worst and doesn’t hesitate to make note of her shortcomings.
Sheela has two small boys, Aryan and Adam, whom Eila quickly falls in love with. It’s obvious from the beginning that the relationship between Sheela and her husband, Steve, is strained, which doesn’t exactly endear Steve to Eila. The situation becomes worse when the subject of Sheela’s cooking arises, and Eila wonders if it’s the Indian cuisine that he dislikes… or something else.
Eila has a couple of days before her job starts, so she spends time with Sheela, accompanying her to one of her prayer meetings. At least the food is very good, even if Eila isn’t sure about the rest of it. In navigating the subway to get to her new job, Eila again runs into the ogre! He seems to be everywhere.
Eila takes to her job and makes a friend in Meghan, but an unexpected turn of events causes her position to be downsized, which is bad for the two sisters, as Sheela and Steve have separated, and Eila is determined to make it without his help. Eila takes a second job—at a strip club! Agreeing to a blind date with the son of one of the ladies at Sheela’s prayer meetings, she is amazed to once again run into the ogre!
Can this end well?
I loved the characters in this book, loved watching Eila grow and develop, as well as Sheela. And the blue-eyed ogre—aka Brett Wright—is a hot and sexy man. Ms. Dixit explores cultural differences and miscommunications with ease.  The biggest criticism I can make is that the editing leaves a little something to be desired, and I hope in future she finds a better editor.
Ms. Dixit is a new author to me, but one I would love to read more of. Her story flows well, and I found myself thinking about the characters even when I wasn’t reading. I’m hoping she will continue the story. I want to know what happens next.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance, and watching bad first impressions get turned around!
