I started watching Vikings from the beginning, mostly because of Travis Fimmel. Frankly, I was skeptical that the History Channel could pull off an actual TV show that was entertaining, as well as historical and informative. I was wrong. Vikings is great, and I've come to love it. It recently began its third season, so let's take a look at what's going on. *SPOILERS AHEAD*****
There is a whole lot going on this season. Ragnar takes the gang back to Wessex, where Ecbert "persuades" him to help with the cause of Mercia. Lagertha busies herself with the new settlement, and Floki is becoming increasingly jealous of Athelstan's influence over Ragnar. ****MORE SPOILERS*** Nothing is ever what it seems. Ecbert seems friendly and makes overtures to Lagertha, which are accepted and returned, and his daughter-in-law, Juliet, is very interested in Athelstan. He resists at first, but finally gives in and makes love to her. Back home, the women of Ragnar, Floki and Rollo have the same dream about a stranger - and he arrives (played by the same guy who plays the ratcatcher in The Strain). He seduces Ragnar's Princess, and while she's busy fornicating, she leaves her children to Sigi to watch. Tragedy ensues when Sigi follows her two sons onto a frozen pond. They fall through, she rescues them, then drowns. Aethelwulf, Ecbert's son, discovers his wife's infidelity when he returns home, and once the child is born, they start to mutilate her horribly, beginning with one ear, to make her name the father. Under such duress, she gives them Athelstan's name, and Ecbert stops the proceedings, understanding her thrall for him. They name the child Alfred. Ragnar decides he wants to attack Paris and Athelstan gives him a lot of intel on the island/city. A jealous Floki decides a sacrifice is needed, so he kills Athelstan. They are poised to attack the city now, and I think Ragnar knows what Floki did, so that should be interesting. Also, Bjorn's girlfriend was mutilated in battle and thinks she's too hideous for him. She has their daughter, whom they need Sigi. Told you, a lot going on, can't wait to see what happens in Paris.
Dig is a new series on USA, which stars Jason Isaacs, whom you should remember as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, as well as Awake, and Peter Pan, and much more. I've watched a few episodes, and I haven't decided yet how much I like it. I'm basically watching it for Jason. **SPOILERS AHEAD** Basically, Jason plays an FBI agent who's transferred to Jerusalem and while investigating a murder discovers a strange end of days type conspiracy. He's also dealing with the death of his daughter. Also in this is the girl who played Claire in Six Feet Under, Lauren Ambrose. Jason is good as always, just not sure if it has what it takes to make it. For the most part, USA doesn't have good shows. The exception to that rule is Sirens, which is hilarious, so we'll have to just wait and see, I guess.
Also back for a new season is The Following. **SPOILERS AHEAD*** So far, we haven't seen a lot of Joe Carroll. The action is centering around the cray-cray remaining twin, Mark Gray, and his equally cray-cray followers. Mark is having people killed and leaving bizarre messages that Ryan hardy lies and he needs to confess the truth, the truth being that the FBI executed his mother, Lily Gray. Maybe strictly speaking they did, but she deserved it. Mark is all kinds of bananas - he placed a mirror on top of a suit of clothes, and talks to it as if it's his brother, Luke. The bad thing is - it talks back. Or Mark hears it that way. Of course, he supplies the voice. Ryan has a new girlfriend, a nice doctor, while his niece Max has a nice boyfriend who is also FBI. But she and Mike get it on one night, and he accidentally discovers that, and I'm waiting for that to explode all over everyone. Another storyline concerns the man who mentored Joe, who is awaiting trial, and manages to walk on a technicality. This could be an interesting season, but without Joe being more involved, I don't see it going much further. And he's due to be executed soon. So, we'll see.
Gotta stop there, my cat wants to eat. More another time.
Have a great day!

Please welcome author M Garnet, who is here to talk about her newest release, A Master Trade.
My full name is Muriel Garnet
Yantiss and I started writing years ago under the pen name of M. Garnet, but I
really only got serious after I retired.
After raising a daughter, running an
International Business, traveling the world, and only finding time to write a
few minutes in any twenty-four hour period, I now am in Florida and can write
all day and all night, which I often do.
I use all the experiences I gained, and without any hesitation, draw
information from my long list of friends and acquaintances worldwide.
With over 30 books published through two
active publishers, and a couple of independent books (indies) at Amazon, I love
the email that the Internet brings me from all over the world.
I write SciFi, Fantasy, and Contemporary

Blurb:
When a big rig truck goes missing from the large company she
works for, she never thought she would get caught covering a crime for her only
living relative. How was she to know she had signed her life in trade to the
Master?
Margaret had lost everything and everyone in a terrible accident as
a child, except for a younger cousin. She took care of this boy and did
everything to protect him, including committing a crime that could put her in a
Federal Pen.
The man who caught her, now owned her for five years, a man she
knew and hated. But she would do anything to protect her cousin, including
joining into a different world that circled around a blue whip.
Excerpt:
People were leaving, talking in awe and
respect about the effects of the Master. She looked down and even though the
spotlight was off, she saw the young man releasing the girl and the older man
taking the girl into his arms. The girl immediately wrapped her arms around his
neck and clung to him. The Mistress had Margaret moving out with everyone else.
She was trying to understand what she had
seen. Not the pain and the mishandling of a beautiful girl, but the girl’s
reaction to it and to her older friend.
Suddenly she saw the hallway full of
people and she drew back. It hadn’t been bad coming in with only the woman, but
she was unable to go out in that tight dark space with all these bodies. Suddenly
someone bumped her from behind and she twisted around. There were bodies
everywhere and she couldn’t see. It was darker and the walls were closing in
and she couldn’t breathe. She knew that Mistress Deb was saying something, but
she was just one more dark body in the tight quarters. Margaret felt the
ceiling closing down.
Margaret closed her eyes and put her
hands over her head to protect herself from the falling debris, curling herself
into the smallest space possible to avoid the smoke and dust and she cried. Margaret
let the tears roll down and she held her head and banged it against her knees. There
were voices all around, but they never found her. They found the others and
continued the search, but they never found her.
Then suddenly someone found her. Strong
arms were around her, lifting her, pulling her against a wide chest. She was
safe. She wrapped her arms around a thick neck and buried her face in a leather
coat and rocked comfortably in the motion of a moving body. Margaret was found.

A man I love is in danger!
All right, maybe that's an exaggeration. And no, I'm not speaking of someone in my life who's dying or anything horrible like that. The man I'm speaking of is John Constantine, and I've grown very fond of him, but I understand there may be no second season. So from that standpoint, he is in danger of being cancelled.
How awful to have a show one loves in imminent peril of having the plug pulled. I have two such shows that I know of - Constantine and Forever. And I love them both.
For those who don't know, Constantine is based on the long-running DC comic Hellblazer, concerning the exploits of a slick exorcist by the name of John Constantine, who is a very complex character. There was a movie made starring Keanu Reeves and I liked the movie pretty well - until I started reading the comics and realized just how far offbase the filmmakers were. First, in casting Keanu Reeves in the first place. he's very un-John Constantine, and totally mis-cast.
The NBC version features Matt Ryan, who makes a most excellent Constantine. And I have no complaint with the writing, or with the storylines they've come up with. They're far more canon than the movie, especially with regard to Chas.
I hope someone decides to keep this wonderful show, but NBC has a history of pulling the plug on shows I like - such as Awake, Dracula, and Do No Harm. I hear a decision will come in April, so cross your fingers!
Also, I recommend the comic books. And if you like the premise, I'd like to recommend a series of books I've been reading about another exorcist, Felix Castor. They're written by Mike Carey, the genius behind Lucifer, the graphic novels. I've read the first three and hope to be able to read the last two. Felix has vague similarities to John, but don't be fooled by that. Carey has created some rather memorable characters in this series, and his wit and intelligence are off the charts.
Now, my second show, Forever.
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this show before, about an immortal medical examiner. This week's episode was awesome, having to do with a mummified body found at a rock concert in a building about to be torn down. Along the way, we learned more about Henry's past. I can't say enough good things about this show. Whenever it comes out on DVD, I'll get it. And I'll be devastated if it is cancelled.
What else am I watching? Well, Once Upon a Time is back, and this season features three villaineses - Ursula, Maleficent, and Cruella, who have aligned themselves with Mr. Gold ****POSSIBLE SPOILERS*** who was cast out of Storybrook by a fed-up Belle. This season focuses on them, and on Regina's search for the mysterious author of Henry's book, so she can achieve her own happy ending.
My favorite character in the show is still Mr. Gold. I won't even lie - the man has issues. He's not exactly trustworthy, and he can kill without thinking twice about it. And yet there is something very irresistible about him. Maybe it's that bad boy vibe he gives off so well? Just ask Belle, I'm sure she understands.
This season is off to a good start and I'm enjoying it.
Cutthroat Kitchen is crazy and full of fun. You gotta love a no-holds-barred Alton Brown. The premise of the show is that four chefs compete against one another, in three rounds, and the name of the game is sabotage, which Alton is happy to oblige with his wicked auctions. Fun, fun, and more fun.
Unlike Hell's Kitchen. We didn't watch the last season, as it came so quickly on the heels of the lackluster season before, but thought we'd give this one a whirl. After two episodes, Sarah and I asked each other - do we want to continue? And the answer was a resounding NO. Nothing new under this sun. Different chefs, same old problems, situations, screaming and dialogue. Heard it, over it. Still love Gordon Ramsey, but maybe he needs a new shtick? How about more Motel Hell? That was better.
Mr. Selfridge began its third season with a wonderful two hour premiere. *****SPOILERS
AHEAD***** Between the two seasons, Mrs. Selfridge passed on, but that was no surprise as we saw her receive her diagnosis last season. This season begins with Harry's daughter Rosalie's marriage to a Russian aviator named Sergei. I see a lot of fireworks coming out of this union. Sergei is tied to his mother, the Princess - read leach. That woman is all about getting what she can out of Harry, including taking a suite at an expensive hotel and charging it to him. Sergei is hot on developing his own airplane and building an aerodrome, and assumes Harry will foot the bill. Harry, though, decides to push for non-profit housing for returning soldiers, a plan which Rose at one time drew houses for. Sergei gets bent out of shape, but luckily for him, he is approached by another potential investor - none other than Lord Locksley! Boo, hiss!
Then there is Agnes, who split with Victor last season, and married Henri Leclair this season. Also this season, Harry's daughter Violette is coming into her own, and showing she is her father's daughter. There's a lot going on, and I'm looking forward to seeing it all!
Well, I have to stop there. I hope to write more tomorrow night about other shows, such as Dig and Vikings.
Have a great Friday!

Love's Labor - A Crescent Bay Tale, Part 2
I promised I'd tell you the rest of the story. Here it is! Enjoy!
Love's Labor - A Crescent Bay Tale, Part 2
Love's Labor - A Crescent Bay Tale, Part 2
Miller awoke with a start. What a strange dream he’d had.
The baby—his and Holt’s precious little daughter—was dancing a tattoo inside of
him, a sort of vampiric Lord of the Dance, her steps growing increasingly more painful as
she click-clacked across his abdomen. “She’s
gonna be a soccer player,” he mumbled to himself. As he started to come to
awareness, he felt the cushion beneath his head begin to move. What the hell? A surge of panic flowed through him until he
remembered he was lying in Holt’s lap. He rolled his head, looking up into his
husband’s beautiful eyes.
“Sorry,” Holt whispered. “Didn’t mean to wake you.”
“S’okay,” he reassured Holt.
At least he was out of the weird dream now. As Miller stretched his cramped legs, he
realized where they were—on the couch in Alexx’s hospital room.
Alexx! How long had
he been asleep? Had he missed everything? Alexx would never forgive him.
Unless…
“Did Raoul show up?”
Holt shook his head. “No,
it’s still too early. I wouldn’t expect to see him before dawn.”
Luckily for them, the hospital was equipped with specially
tempered glass that allowed vampires to move freely within, even during
daylight hours. At least he would be able to have Holt with him when he went
into labor. He felt badly for Alexx anew.
Speaking of which, he raised his head and spotted the inert
form of his friend on the large hospital bed. Holt followed his glance. “He’s
asleep,” he answered the unspoken question.
Miller glanced at the monitor which logged the contractions.
Miller was amazed that Alexx could sleep through them, considering the way he’d
been screaming in pain earlier. Guess it only went to show that if you were
tired enough, you could sleep through anything.
Maybe Alexx had the right idea. He’d go back to sleep himself.
Alexx would holler if he needed him. He mumbled as much to Holt as he
repositioned himself, rubbing his cheek on Holt’s firm thigh.
“I don’t know what you said”—Holt chuckled—“but I’ll take it
as good night.” He stroked Miller’s cheek gently. “Sleep tight, my love,” Holt
whispered. Miller purred contentedly, his body relaxing into Holt’s warmth…
Suddenly, he sat bolt upright on the couch, all thoughts of
sleep having fled. At first he thought
the baby was kicking again, a return to his former dream, but this was harder
than any of her previous efforts, harder than the dream abuse she’d dealt him.
Was something wrong?
“Baby, what’s the matter?” Holt asked with concern.
“I… I don’t know,” Miller replied in a panic-stricken voice.
He started to rise, but doubled over as another wave of pain sliced through
him. And then a warm wetness seemed to flow around him as all his muscles went
haywire at the same time. How embarrassing. Was he going to have to buy adult
diapers, the kind he saw advertised on late night TV that came in the mail in
discreet packaging?
Holt’s next words dispelled that idea, as the truth was
brought home to him.
“Miller, I think you’re in labor.”
“Holy shit, now?”
Miller moaned.
“It seems that way, love.”
Just then the doctor walked in. She glanced at Alexx,
checking the printouts from the various machines connected to him, before she
turned to Miller and Holt. Her eyebrows shot up inquisitively at the wetness
which surrounded Miller.
“Well, well, I think someone else is in labor, aren’t we?”
“Who’s we?” Miller grumbled. Well, technically speaking, we
was Alexx and him. Great. Somebody had a lousy sense of humor and a miserable
sense of timing when it came to having babies.
“You and your husband, of course.” She strode across the
room, took Miller’s wrist and began to count his pulse. Just then the mountain
called Dorothy came in, bearing a pitcher which she exchanged for one on
Alexx’s bedside table.
“Can you get this gentleman here a gown?” the doctor asked.”He’s
in labor.”
“Yes, Doctor.” The nurse crossed the room, pulled open a
drawer in a mahogany chifferobe, and pulled out a chic-looking blue gown.
The doctor finished taking Miller’s pulse and held her hand
out to Holt. “I’m Doctor Graf,” she said.
“Nice to meet you, Doctor. My name is Holt Wynne, and this
is my husband, Miller.”
“I can’t be in labor,” Miller protested. “It’s not time
yet.”
“Your mother did tell you first children can come early,”
Holt reminded him. Miller’s mother, besides being a mother, was a pediatrician
who knew a lot about babies.
“Yeah, well, I’m not ready. Let’s save this for some other
time.”
The doctor winked. “I think someone has other ideas, Mr.
Wynne. Let’s get you out of those wet clothes, shall we?”
Before Miller could muster a protest, and with Holt’s help,
he was bundled into the blue gown, and he found himself lying next to Alexx in
the oversized bed, with monitors of his own.
Alexx had awakened by then, when Nurse Dorothy gave him something for his
pain. He gave Miller an amused glance.
“What’s so damn funny?” Miller snapped.
“You. In that gown.” Alexx chuckled. “You look pretty silly,
dude.”
“Have you looked in a mirror lately?” Miller snarled. Alexx
only began to laugh harder, pointing at Miller as loud guffaws erupted.
Before Miller could turn violent, Alexx gave a dreamy sigh
and stretched out his legs, wiggling his feet beneath the blanket. “I can’t see them, but I know they’re down
there somewhere!”
“What are you talking about?”
“My toes! I haven’t seen them in forever, man, but I know
they’re there. They are, aren’t they, Holt?”
“Yes,” Holt assured him. “All present and accounted for,
from what I can see.”
Alexx seemed content with that response and smiled happily.
That happiness lasted for about two minutes, then he cried out in pain once
more.
“Oh damn, that hurts, it hurts, it hurts,” he whined.
“Where’s Raoul?”
Beside him, Miller was having issues of his own. His labor
pains were already stronger than he thought they should be. “Doctor Graf,” he
gasped, “what happened to the early stages of labor?”
“Maybe you slept through them?” she suggested with a shrug.
Miller remembered his strange dream, and suddenly everything
made sense.
“Holt!” he ground out, reaching for his husband.
“Here, baby, I’m here.” Holt gave Miller the hand he was
looking for, and Miller began to squeeze it, very long and very hard, crying
out until the contraction began to ebb and then receded once more. He flopped
back against the bed, wrung out. And to think they’d only just begun.
They quickly established a routine among them: Miller moaned
and squeezed Holt’s hand, Alexx screamed for Raoul, calling him every name he
could think of, and Holt provided what comfort he could to both of them.
During the night, a new shift of nurses arrived, and they
exchanged the mountainous Dorothy for a high-spirited young Irishman named
Daniel O’Toole. He wore bright green scrubs and had a jade shamrock in one
pierced ear.
“Faith and begorra, ya look very snug there,” he commented
at the sight of Alexx and Miller in their shared bed, once he’d introduced
himself. “Is there anything you be needing?”
“Yes, I need my husband!” Alexx yelled. “And I need this to
be over with!”
Daniel winked at him. “Well, I can’t help you with finding
your husband, but if you want it done faster, then next time, you should choose
the zipper option.”
“The what?” Alexx stopped yelling long enough to give Daniel
a perplexed glance.
“The zipper option,” the nurse repeated. “Tis all the rage
these days with men having babies. The doctor installs a zipper as soon as you
discover you’re with child. Then, when the time comes, pull the zipper down and
out pops the wee bairn.”
“Dammit, Holt, why didn’t you tell me about that?” Miller
grumbled.
Holt looked between Miller and Daniel, a skeptical look on
his face. “We can look into it next time.”
“Next time? What
makes you think there’ll be a next
time?”
“You tell’im, Miller!” Alexx shouted his encouragement, just
before he rode the next wave of pain.
Holt opened his mouth to answer his husband, but whatever soothing
words he’d been about to say were lost as the sound of screams came to them
from somewhere nearby. Screams, cries of dismay, curses… and the howl of an
animal. Moments later, a large black wolf loomed menacingly in the doorway.
Miller glanced through the single window in the room. The
rosy fingers of dawn were spreading across the morning sky. He looked back,
just in time to watch the wolf morph into a very naked man.
“Raoul!” Alexx cried.
“Get your hairy ass over here. Now!
Raoul loped around the bed, reaching out to embrace Alexx,
but received a smack on the nose for his pains. Startled, he stood there, a baffled
expression in his eyes, and rubbed his nose.
The next moment, Alexx burst into tears, and Raoul gathered him into his
arms, shushing him.
Miller felt another contraction begin and he arched his
back, clamping down on Holt’s hand. His pain was echoed by Alexx’s, and they
screamed their displeasure in unison. Once the contraction had passed, they
each collapsed onto their respective spouses, panting and spent.
“How long?” Miller whispered.
“I want to go home,” Alexx moaned.
Doctor Graf entered the room, a bright smile plastered on
her face, despite the noise and confusion. “Well, well, I think we’re ready to
deliver. What do you think?”
She didn’t wait for an answer, and seemed oblivious to the
dirty looks she received from the fathers-to-be. Approaching Alexx first, she pulled down the
sheet and laid her hand on top of his swollen belly. “Are you ready?” she
asked.
“Past ready!”
“All right then, I’m going to try a new technique I just
learned. It’s supposed to cut down on delivery time by quite a bit.” From the
pocket of her doctor’s smock, she produced a wand, which she touched lightly to
Alexx’s stomach as she began to intone. “Alakazam, alakazoo, bibbidi bobbidi boo.” She
tapped the wand again for good measure. “Open sesame!”
To Miller’s amazement, Alexx’s stomach began to slowly open,
the skin drawing bloodlessly back until a small baby was revealed inside. The
doctor reached for the child, and the gap began to close immediately until the
two sides had joined once more, with an invisible seam.
“Congratulations, you have a son!” she announced, handing
the baby to Alexx. Raoul howled his joy, before stepping closer, touching his
new son. They made a touching tableau.
“Your turn, Mr. Wynne!” the doctor proclaimed, performing
the same operation for him. Moments later, he held a squalling baby girl in his
arms, and he and Holt wept for joy.
Let us leave the two happy couples there, shall we, with
their new additions to the family? Let’s tiptoe away now,
very quietly…
And one last thing – April Fool’s! Hope you enjoyed reading this tale that never
was as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Hi
all! I’m excited to share with you the release of my short story, Shredding the Heart, part of Foolish Encounters, an April Fool’s
Anthology from Wilde City Press.
To
celebrate, I bring you some of the most famous April Fool’s Day hoaxes in
history. After that check out an excerpt from Shredding the Heart where skateboarder Nicholas O’Brien’s attempt
to get the attention of the hottie Quinn Matthews doesn’t go so well.
Oh,
and, don’t forget to enter the giveaway for an eBook copy of my latest novel, Diventando:
The Vessel! Enjoy!
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
April
Fool’s Day…the favorite holiday of class clowns, pranksters and children
everywhere. While millions of people will be instigating their own pranks,
history has shown that a hoax can be wide spread and highly believable. Here are
five famous hoaxes!
*
The BBC has staged some of the most outrageous hoaxes. In 1957, many viewers
were fooled by a report that Swiss farmers were experiencing a bumper crop of
spaghetti. Footage showed people harvesting spaghetti noodles from trees.
Luckily, they had recently eliminated the bothersome “spaghetti weevil” to
increase their production. I know I hate those spaghetti weevils.
*
What happens when a fast food chain announces it has purchased a national
treasure? People believe it? Many people did just that in 1996, when Taco Bell
reported the chain had agreed to buy the Liberty Bell and renamed the cracked
symbol of freedom, the Taco Liberty Bell. Wonder if that comes with hot sauce?
*
Another fast food chain, Burger King, advertised the sale of the “Left Handed
Whopper” (because you know they’re made for righties, right? lol). The print advertisement brought
clueless customers in to the restaurant to request the fake sandwich. A
definite disappointment to southpaws everywhere when the hoax was uncovered.
*
In 1962, black and white TVs were the norm while color TVs were just becoming
available. Want to change that B&W TV to color? Easily done claimed Sweden's Sveriges Television on April 1, 1962.
A "technical expert" offered the key to that conversion. Just drape a
nylon stocking over the screen to take advantage of the “prismatic qualities”
of the nylon mesh and you get a color picture. To increase the effect, move
your head back and forth (the faster the better). Must have been some pissed
off wives/mothers when they found their nylons had been sacrificed to the color
TV gods.
*
Lastly, a futuristic hoax straight from Google itself. MentalPlex Technology
was announced in 2000. Why take the time to type in that itty bitty search box
when Mentalplex will read your mind and search for what you desire?

Shredding
the Heart
Part
of Foolish Encounters, An April
Fool’s Anthology
Blurb
Skateboarder Nicholas O'Brien’s sole focus is on perfecting his
sport, yet a gorgeous jogger who continually ignores him tests that
concentration daily. Boarding into the jogger's path finally gets him Quinn
Matthews’ attention along with the brush off. Quinn is adamant that no man will
ever take advantage of him again. When Nicholas persists, Quinn finds he can’t
resist the enigmatic boarder. Just as he falls for Nicholas, Quinn learns that
Nicholas just may have had an agenda all along. Devastated, Quinn pulls away,
leaving Nicholas alone and confused. Can they overcome their pain and shred the
heart?
Excerpt
Nicholas’s
gaze was jerky as he gazed out over the water. Quinn wondered if he was
nervous. He took in Nicholas’s profile—the milky white skin, the barely
noticeable freckles on his cheeks, the full red lips. He imagined their
softness against his own lips, taking possession of him, owning him. But he
needed to be strong. Never weak or needy or wanton. Never vulnerable again.
Nicholas
looked to Quinn and the lusty gaze stole Quinn’s breath. There was a question
in Nicholas’s eyes as he leaned closer, no doubt wondering if…
When
their lips touched, Quinn couldn’t suppress his gasp. As if sensing Quinn’s
hesitancy, Nicholas hovered, head tilted to the side, their lips brushing, but
he ceased any other movement. Was he seeking permission to kiss him? A cold
shudder raced down Quinn’s spine with the thoughts of hot tongues tangling in
wet mouths. A sign was all Nicholas probably needed to go for it. Quinn closed
his eyes and licked lightly across Nicholas’s bottom lip. The groaned response
from Nicholas and the resulting crush of lips fueled his desire, raced his
heart, and guided his hands to Nicholas’s hips, clutching, holding, wanting.
Nicholas
grasped Quinn at the nape of his neck, controlling the kiss, eating at his
lips, and devouring his whimpers. Nicholas pushed him higher, and Quinn’s cock
throbbed in his dress pants, begging for any friction, any touch. Anything…
everything. At that moment, his body belonged to Nicholas O’Brien, and he
wanted whatever the man desired, wanted so much more than he could ever hope to
have, could risk having again.

Love's Labor - A Crescent Bay Tale
“Damn, damn, damn!” Alexx doubled over, hugging his middle,
as another sharp pain tore through him, threatening to rip him apart.
“I told you it was a bad idea to get up. Get back in that
bed!” Miller gave Alexx a no-nonsense look, waving toward the large bed in the
middle of the room. “Wow, I didn’t even know this kind of hospital room even
existed. Leave it to Crescent Bay,” he muttered as he took Alexx’s arm and
ushered him back to bed. “Guess this place is for the rich folks.”
“I want Raoul, where’s Raoul?” Alexx moaned, ignoring Miller’s
commentary. True, this room resembled a high end hotel room rather than any
sort of birthing room, but right now he didn’t care about that. He just cared
about his husband, wanting him to be there.
“You know where he is, and he can’t help it. That’s what you
get for going into labor on the night of the full moon. You think they’re gonna
let a wolf in here? Sheesh!”
“I don’t care,” Alexx grumbled. The contraction had passed
and he could breathe again. “He needs to be here. With me. With our child.
Wouldn’t you be pissed if Holt didn’t show up for your child’s birth?”
Miller gently patted his swollen belly. “Well, Holt has his
own issues, but naturally we’re going to have the baby where it’s safe for him
to be, day or night.”
“Plus he has that sunscreen,” Alexx reminded him. “At least
he can go out in the sun with that. There’s nothing that’s going to help Raoul
not change.”
“No, that’s so true,” Miller agreed. “Speaking of Holt, he
should be here soon, I just talked to him.”
“Goody for him.” Alexx pouted. “At least one of us will be
happy.”
Miller rolled his eyes. “Hey, how about I get you some
chocolate? Sounds like someone needs a heavy dose of feel-good medicine.”
“Yeah, yeah, that sounds great. I know they have vending
machines here.” Alexx’s eyes lit up at the thought. “Bring me a candy bar or
two. Um, the kind with the coconut. And nuts. Oh, and a cup of hot chocolate
too. With whipped cream. And sprinkles.”
“Right away. I remember seeing the machine on this floor.
Won’t take but a minute.” He turned to go, but his way was blocked by a tank in
a nurse’s uniform. Her name tag read Dorothy.
She did not look amused.
“Just what do you
think you’re doing?”
“I-I-I…” Miller stuttered, apparently at a loss for words.
“Getting me food,” Alexx supplied helpfully.
“You’ll do no such thing.” She pushed a strong finger into
Miller’s chest. “He’s going to have surgery, and he can have nothing on his stomach. Do you want him to aspirate and choke to death?
Ice chips only.” She jammed a styrofoam cup into Miller’s chest. “Here. This is
what he can have. Bon appétit.”
She pivoted and stormed toward the door, pausing only long
enough to add, “I have my eye on you, so don’t try anything,” before she
disappeared from view.
“That was one scary broad.” Miller looked down into the cup.
“Ice chips,” he announced. “Better than
nothing, I guess.” He stirred them with a plastic spoon set into the
cup. “Want me to feed them to you?”
“No!” Alexx wailed. “I want chocolate! And I want Raoul.” He
drummed his fists against the mattress, and kicked his feet petulantly.
At that moment, Holt appeared in the doorway. “Everything
okay here?” He looked between Alexx and Miller, even as he approached Miller,
patting his swollen stomach gently. “How’s my little one?”
“Not so little anymore.” Miller chuckled. He jerked his
thumb in Alexx’s direction. “He’s upset about Raoul not being here. I offered
to get him chocolate, but Nurse Scary put the kibosh on that.”
“Oh dear, I’m sorry. Alexx, is there anything I can do? Anything
else, I mean? We wouldn’t want to go
against your nurse, now would we?”
“I. Just. Want. Raoul,” Alexx gritted out from clenched
teeth. Suddenly he arched his back as a fresh contraction swept over him.
“Is the doctor coming?” Holt asked Miller. Miller curled up
against him, purring contentedly, cradling their growing child between them.
“The call’s been placed. I think she’s on her way, but I don’t
know from where.”
“With my luck, she’s a goddamned wolf, and she’s somewhere
out there howling!’ Alexx screamed.
“We should probably get comfortable,” Holt suggested. He
took Miller’s hand and led him to a large divan, then sat and placed Miller on
his lap. “Looks like this might be a long night.”
Two agonizing hours later, the doctor bustled in. “Sorry,”
she apologized, “just finished another delivery. How are we doing, Mr.
Marchand?” She took Alexx’s wrist, feeling for his pulse.
“Ready to be done with this,” Alexx grumbled. He was between
contractions and, for the moment, feeling no pain.
“It’ll be over soon enough,” she assured him. “We just need
to make sure the baby is ready to come out and that you’re ready to deliver.”
She glanced over at the couch. “Would one of you be the baby’s father?”
“Do either one of them look like a hairy wolf?” Alexx cried
petulantly. “That’s my best friend Miller, and he’s having Holt’s baby. Holt’s
a vampire. My husband isn’t here right now, where he should be!”
“Try not to excite yourself, Mr. Marchand.” The doctor’s
voice never rose in volume or tone, maintaining an even professionalism. “I’m
sure he’s on his way.”
“Actually, it’s the full moon,” Miller supplied helpfully. “He’s
not exactly himself tonight. Holt and I are standing in until Raoul can get
here.”
“He needs to be here, this is his fault!” Alexx screamed. “If he can’t be bothered to show up for
his own child’s birth, then forget it. I’m not doing it either!”
“Uh, dude… you don’t exactly have a choice,” Miller pointed
out.
Alexx screamed all the louder.

Don't Look Back #39 (7.6)
Lee slid a reassuring arm about Marshall’s shoulder.
Marshall appreciated that he didn’t try to make light of his fears, or treat
him like a child, but as an equal. Neither did he sweep the unpleasant subject under
the rug and out of sight. Lee was one who faced things head on and dealt with
them.
“Keep looking,” he said to Roy, who nodded. “We don’t even
know we have a reason to worry. There’s no reason to think she even saw that
video, but we can’t be too careful, either. I’d feel a whole lot more
comfortable if we could get that thing pulled off the Internet. Is there a way
of finding out who posted it?”
“Probably, but I’m afraid we’ll draw more attention to
ourselves if we put up a fuss about it,” Roy replied, “then if we do nothing.”
“Well, one good thing,” Marshall spoke up.
“What’s that?”
“She can’t come to Burnham without sticking out like a sore
thumb.”
“Isn’t that the truth,” Roy agreed.
Lee hugged Marshall close before he kissed him, then rose to
his feet. “If you’ll excuse me, gentlemen, I need to check on dinner.” He
headed toward the back of the house. Marshall rose too.
“Need to start the macaroni and cheese, get it done.”
“I’ll come with,” Roy said amiably, reaching for his bottle.
He followed Marshall into the kitchen and watched him start a pot of water to
boil.
“Roy, did you ever meet her?” Marshall found he couldn’t
seem to not think about her, so gave up the effort.
“No, we never did meet. I kept my distance once I found her.
There wasn’t any need. I had an operative who did. Said she was from the school
district, checking up on you because you weren’t registered for school.”
“Bet she said I was homeschooled, didn’t she?” Marshall’s
voice held more than a little contempt.
“Yep, that she did.” Roy took a long drink of his beer
before continuing. “We couldn’t press the point. Afraid we might spook her.
Couldn’t take the chance of losing you. Don’t know what Lee would have done if
we had. He was… I never saw anyone so intent and so lost at the same time. He
was like a man possessed. No way was he going to fail. He never gave up hope of
getting you back, and he made me believe too."
“That’s when you became friends, isn’t it?”
Roy nodded. “Yep. Spent a lot of time together, except when
he was in Burnham, getting your life ready. See what I mean? He had faith we’d find
you and bring you back. He loves you so very much, always has.”
“And I love him that much too,” Marshall said softly. He
turned his back to Roy for a moment. He poured salt into the boiling water as
he brought his roiling emotions under control then added a box of elbow
macaroni. “I knew she was lying when she told her boyfriends he was dead. I don’t
know why, but I knew he was out there somewhere, searching for me.” He fell
silent and stirred the pasta. Turning to the microwave, he put seven minutes on
the kitchen timer, then looked back at Roy.
“Do you ever miss being a PI?”
Roy shook his head. “Not really. I like being sheriff. And I
like being here with the two of you. What more could a man ask for?” He winked
at Marshall. Marshall couldn’t help but grin.
At that moment, he heard the back door, and then Lee entered
the kitchen. His face was flush from bending over the smoker. In one hand he
held a fistful of red blossoms. Marshall recognized them instantly. Oxblood lilies.
Sarah, from across the street, had brought them the bulbs as a gift, and
Marshall had watched her place them in both the front and back yards. She told
him they practically planted themselves, and he’d been fascinated by the
idea. Marshall wondered why Lee was
carrying them now.
Marshall heard Roy clear his throat. “Gotta see a man about
a horse,” he mumbled before he made a hasty exit.
Lee approached Marshall, held the flowers out to him.
“Are those for me?” Marshall asked, surprised.
“Absolutely. Want to put them into something and set them on
the table? Thought they’d look nice.”
Marshall had set the kitchen table for the occasion, with
their best dishes and silverware, and a tablecloth. “They’re beautiful, thank
you.”
Lee leaned toward him, and their lips met in a gentle kiss.
Marshall read the message in Lee’s beautiful dark eyes. Don’t worry. I’m here. Always.
Once everything was done, the turkey rested and carved and
everything set on the table, the three men took their places. For some people,
tradition demanded a grace be said before every meal. While they didn’t follow
that particular precept, on Thanksgiving, they had their own custom of giving
thanks for what they had.
“Okay, I’ll start,” Roy said, as they looked toward him
expectantly. “I’m thankful for my life here in Burnham, for being the sheriff,
and for the mostly beautiful weather we have.”Marshall chuckled. “Most of all,
I’m thankful for having the two best friends a man could ask for, the best men
I know.”
Marshall and Lee raised their beer bottles in
acknowledgement of Roy’s heartfelt words, and they each drank to him.
“Okay, I’ll go next,” Lee offered. “I’d like to give thanks
for how successful the business is, and for the good life we have here in
Burnham. For Roy, who helped me get my heart back and gave me back my life. And
Marshall, who is my heart.”
Choked with emotion, Marshall managed to say, “I’d like to
give thanks for my life, and for Roy, who’s an awesome friend and an incredible
person. And most of all, for Lee, my love, my heart and soul, for always.”
They lifted their bottles in unison. “Happy Thanksgiving.”
