Wednesday Briefs: In Pieces #69 (17.2)

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! If it's Wednesday, then it must be time for more flash fiction from the Wednesday Briefers! We're a group of authors who bring you our finest flash fiction every week, 500 to 1000 words, inspired by one of our prompts.

Everything is going beautifully at Heavens Above. Ryan is feeling pretty good, and feels this is where he really belongs. He wants nothing more than to be with Ben for the rest of their lives. Maybe they should make their relationship permanent? See what's going on in this week's chapter of In Pieces. Don't forget to check out the other Briefers and see what's up with them! Their links follow my tale! Enjoy!

In Pieces #69 (17.2)

When the first set ended, the band took a break and the dance club switched to a computerized music system. Ryan expected Ben to take a seat at the table he was sharing with Marge and relax before the next set, but apparently Ben had other ideas. Standing in front of Ryan, he reached for his hand as he swung his hips to the rhythm of the music that surged around them.

“C’mon, baby, let’s you and me shake it up a little!’

Ben led him into the crowd until they found an open spot. Ryan didn’t consider himself a great dancer, but tonight he didn’t care. Tonight was perfect, and he wouldn’t want it any other way. He followed Ben’s lead, mirroring his movements carefully. No one else was paying attention to them anyway, he realized. If anything, they were admiring Ben, and that was okay. Expected even.

Ryan wasn’t surprised to spot Deacon and Keanu dancing not too far from them, as well as Aiden and Abby. Abby looked to be in her element. The two siblings moved together as if they’d been doing this all their lives, each twin perfectly in sync with the other. Maybe he and Ben would become that way, someday.

There was so much he wanted to share with Ben, so much to experience. Ryan knew without a doubt that he wanted this to last forever… wanted him and Ben to last forever. For better or worse… come what may…

With a start, Ryan realized he wanted to marry Ben, something he’d never even considered before,  not with anyone else. Take the vows that would bind them together in ways that no one could tear apart. But would Ben feel the same way?

Just at that moment, as if scripted in some romantic film, the fast-paced music gave way to something much slower and sensual. Ben wasted no time in drawing Ryan closer, hooking his arm around Ryan’s waist. “Want to receive my sacraments?” he whispered hotly in Ryan’s ear just before he licked it.

A tingle surged through Ryan. If they were alone, the things he could do and say… but not here, not now. If he gave in to these delicious sensations, his thoughts would be derailed, and he wanted to focus on what he wanted to say.

“Ben…”

“Yes, baby?” Ben was dancing oh so close now, his breath hot on Ryan’s neck, even as his fingers skittered down Ryan’s back, over his buttocks.

Ryan drew back far enough to be able to look into Ben’s baby blues, although they were violet now, due to the contact lenses he wore. “I love you so much,” he said in a voice choked with emotion. “So very much.”

“You know I love you too, you’re everything to me,” Ben said in reply. His lips were so close to Ryan’s that his words vibrated against them. “My life begins and ends with you, Ryan. Always has. Please don’t ever leave me. No matter what.”

Why did Ben sound so… hell, he couldn’t describe what he heard in Ben’s voice.  Deep love, yes, but something more… almost a sense of desperation. But what did Ben have to be desperate about?
They needed privacy, and they needed it right now. This wasn’t the proper place for what he intended to do. “Let’s go outside,” he suggested. “There’s something I want to say to you.”

Ben didn’t make an immediate reply. Ryan’s heart felt as though it might beat out of his chest, waiting for a response, until suddenly Ben kissed him, long and hard, with a fierce passion. Ryan felt himself moan into the kiss, felt Ben’s own moan. And then Ben released him, gazing at him for a moment. He took Ryan’s hand in his, grasped it firmly, then turned, navigating a path through the dancing throng. Ryan noticed with relief that they were headed toward the door. He followed silently, turning over words and phrases in his mind, searching for just the right one.

So focused was he on his impending proposal that he wasn’t prepared to have Ben come to a sudden halt. He ran up against his back before he could stop himself.  As he automatically started to apologize, he glanced up to find a familiar figure standing in front of them. What was Cameron doing here? Was Ben expecting him? Ben’s first words dispelled that notion.

“I didn’t know you were coming,” Ben said. “But we were just headed outside. Catch you in a few.”
Was it Ryan’s imagination, or did Cameron seem kind of jittery? Nervous, even. Maybe he was just surprised at running into them like this. Ryan decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. Besides, he had more important things on his mind than Cameron. He wasn’t sure entirely trusted Salvation’s backer, but that wasn’t really his call to make. At least not until he had a tangible reason to mistrust him.

“Then I’ll get a drink,” Cameron announced, giving Ben a quick once-over. “Looking good as always.” He winked somewhat lasciviously before disappearing in the direction of the bar.

Ben turned toward Ryan, frowning. “Something feels off,” he said. “But I don’t know what.”

“I think you’re right but I’m not sure what either,” Ryan agreed.

“Sorry, we were going out.” Ben squeezed Ryan’s hand. At least Cameron hadn’t ruined their plans. Now he could propose to Ben, and hopefully Ben would say yes. The thought was both frightening and intoxicating.

They’d almost reached the door when it opened, admitting new customers. They stood aside to make room for them to pass. All but one made their way into the dance club, laughing and chattering together. Guess they’d have to go around this one to get outside.

But Ben stood frozen before him.

Ryan looked past him with apprehension, staring at the roadblock to their progress. Then his eyes grew wide with comprehension.

Liza!

Wednesday Briefs: In Pieces #63 (15.4)

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! If it's Wednesday, then it must be time for more flash fiction from the Wednesday Briefers! We're a group of authors who bring you our finest flash fiction every week, 500 to 1000 words, inspired by one of our prompts.

In last week's installment of In Pieces, Ryan and Ben found themselves with some alone time before they plan to meet the others to do some shopping. They decide to take a shower. Let the fun begin! See how they're doing in this week's chapter! Don't forget to visit the other Briefers and see what they're up to! Their links follow my tale! Enjoy!

In Pieces #63 (15.4)

Ryan repeated his ministrations with the matching conditioner, then carefully guided Ben’s head beneath the spray to rinse everything off.  Beside the hair care products, Ryan noticed a small bottle of body wash.  He popped the cap and sniffed. Seemed pleasant enough. He poured some onto one palm, then replaced the bottle on the shelf and rubbed his hands together to spread the gel.

“That for me?” Ben asked, his eyes fixed on Ryan.

“Absolutely,” Ryan replied. “Nothing but the best for you. Step toward me just a little.” He didn’t want the water to run over Ben’s shoulders before he was ready to rinse. He began to skim his hands across Ben’s chest, loving the feel of Ben’s wet skin beneath his palms. He soaped up every inch he could reach while standing, then dropped to his knees with a fresh squeeze of body wash and ran his hands up and down Ben’s smooth legs.

“That feels nice,” Ben said.

“You feel nice.” Ryan let his hands linger on Ben’s balls, squeezing gently. On impulse, he sucked the tip of Ben’s cock into his mouth, feeling it harden beneath his touch. Ben moved closer, his fingers finding purchase in Ryan’s hair. Ryan moved his mouth farther down Ben’s shaft, consuming him whole. He increased the pressure of his sucking, humming into Ben’s wet flesh, knowing it would produce sensual vibrations. At that, Ben began to thrust harder into Ryan’s mouth. Ryan could hear the erotic noises coming from Ben, even over the sound of the streaming water. Ben’s grip in Ryan’s hair tightened even more as his body tensed, just before he exploded in Ryan’s mouth in strong bursts of fluid. Ryan continued sucking as he swallowed, never letting up until he’d milked every last drop that he could.

Ryan released Ben’s cock finally. He leaned his forehead against Ben’s abdomen, catching his breath. He looked up when Ben tugged gently at his hair.

“You’re so good to me,” Ben said. “I don’t deserve your goodness.”

“It’s cause I love you.” Ryan kissed the inside of Ben’s thigh. “And you do. Turn into the spray and rinse off. There’s more I want to do to you, but not here.”

Ben didn’t argue, but the tremor that ran through his body told Ryan he was as excited at the idea as Ryan was. As water streamed down Ben’s front, Ryan busied himself with another portion of Ben’s anatomy. Peppering Ben’s cheeks with kisses, he gently pulled the globes apart and ran his tongue across Ben’s hole. Ben shivered again.

“Oh God, Ryan,” he moaned.

Ryan slid one wet finger inside of Ben even as he continued to tongue him. He didn’t think he’d ever get tired of being with Ben, not if he lived to be a hundred. Ben was all he wanted or needed in his life, and nothing would change that. “Want another finger?” he asked.

“Yes, please.”

Ryan readily complied, pushing both fingers toward a certain spot inside of Ben. He knew he’d reached it when Ben cried out wordlessly. Twisting his fingers, he hit the spot again and again. Ben’s body vibrated at Ryan’s touch, pushing back into it almost frantically.

“Ryan…. Oh my god…. Need you,” Ben gasped out. “In me…. Please.”

Ryan had intended to take Ben back to the bedroom so they would have the benefit and comfort of the bed, but Ben’s voice and his own need were too strong to deny. He clutched Ben’s hips as he rose to his feet, taking his own aching dick in his hand as he guided it inside of Ben.

“Yesssssss!” Ben cried out.

Ryan maneuvered Ben and himself until they weren’t directly under the water, Ben’s hands flat against the shower wall as Ryan thrust inside of him, over and over. This felt too good to stop. They’d have time for more lovemaking later, but they were both too caught up in this to postpone consummation by even a few seconds.

Ryan slid his hands onto Ben’s front, over his hard nipples, pinching them. Harder and harder he plunged, knowing he wouldn’t last much longer. Ben’s continued thrusts, the sound of his voice, the feel of him… all combined to send Ryan over the edge. His cock spasmed as he came inside of Ben, holding him tightly against him as he shot his load.

Nothing was spoken between them as they stood together in wet contentment. When Ryan felt Ben shiver, he realized they should probably dry off and get warm. Luckily, the water was still warm, which facilitated rinsing. Once out of the shower, they grabbed two hotel towels and rubbed each other dry in the bedroom.

“I’m sorry now we said we’d go out,” Ben said. They lay together on the bed, relaxed and at ease, not having bothered to dress. Yet. “But, on the other hand, I would like to see you in a swim suit.”
Ryan felt himself blush. “Nothing special to look at,” he began but Ben kissed his protests away.

“Hush you. You’re special, just the way you are. Besides, it’s good exercise. I’ve been letting myself go lately.”

Ryan eyed Ben’s lean body skeptically. “This is letting yourself go?”

Ben laughed.

“You’re in great shape,” Ryan continued. “If anything, you could stand a little more meat on your bones.”

Ben’s eyebrows arched. “Now you sound like a Jewish grandmother.”

“Wait till you taste my chicken soup,” Ryan teased and they both laughed. Ryan tenderly stroked Ben’s cheek. “But you’re right. I know I don’t get enough exercise. And swimming with you will be fun. But no Speedos, okay?”

“Absolutely not,” Ben promised with a broad grin and a kiss.

Wednesday Briefs: In Pieces #62 (15.3)

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! If it's Wednesday, then it must be time for more flash fiction from the Wednesday Briefers! We're a group of authors who bring you our finest flash fiction every week, 500 to 1000 words, inspired by one of our prompts.

Lunch with Marge was great, Ryan really likes her. But now everyone is going to take a break before they regroup and decide what to do. Some alone with Ben is just what Ryan wanted. How will they spend their time together? Check out this week's chapter of In Pieces and find out. Don't forget to visit the other Briefers and see what they've been up to! Their links follow my tale! Enjoy!

In Pieces #62 (15.3)

The sated group walked back to the motel together, then drove the two vehicles around the building to where the clerk had said their rooms were.  Turned out Marge’s room was close to theirs as well.  Ben handed out the key cards to the other members of the band and they separated with promises to meet up in an hour or so. Ryan and Ben then got their things from the trunk, and walked Marge to her room before heading to theirs.

Alone at last.

Ryan felt almost giddy once Ben had closed the door, leaving the rest of the world outside.

“Why don’t we just throw our suitcases on the extra bed?” Ben suggested. “We’ll only be here a couple of nights, why unpack?”

“That’s a good idea,” Ryan agreed. “Save us some trouble. Which bed should we use?”

“How about we sleep in the one closest to the bathroom?” He tossed his own suitcase onto the other bed, and Ryan quickly followed suit. He set his laptop on top of the dresser. He had a feeling he wouldn’t be using it anytime soon.

“Did you really want to take a nap?” He didn’t want to assume anything, although he was pretty sure he knew the answer to his question. And if Ben was tired, then they would rest, no argument there.

“Maybe afterward.” Ben gave him a knowing wink which made his heart lurch. “Actually, I was thinking we should take a shower. Cool down a little, you know?”

Ryan knew that if he and Ben were naked in the shower together, things were more likely to heat up than cool down. But he certainly appreciated the sentiment.

“Good idea,” Ryan agreed. “Together, right?”

“Absolutely together,” Ben replied. He began to strip, tossing each piece of clothing on the floor in his wake as he headed toward the bathroom. Ryan took a moment to enjoy the view before following him, hastily discarding his own clothing.

The bathroom was not much smaller than the one they were using at Cameron’s house, with the added luxury of not having to be shared with two other guys. Ben was adjusting the water temperature. “Okay, come on in,” he beckoned to Ryan. Ryan stepped inside the tub and held his hand up to the spray.

“Feels good,” he commented. “Not too hot, not too cold…”

“Just right.” Ben grinned. He pulled Ryan into a gentle kiss, his hands lightly skimming up and down Ryan’s back. “We can pretend we’re playing house and this is our home,” he said. “At least for the next couple of days.” He stepped closer to Ryan, so close their cocks rubbed together. Then he turned, facing the spray, giving Ryan a most spectacular view of his ass.

Ryan couldn’t resist. He cupped those gorgeous globes and pressed soft kisses to Ben’s neck. No need to rush, he just wanted to enjoy their closeness. Spotting a small bottle of shampoo on a ledge inset against the wall, he got an idea.

“Would you like me to wash your hair?” he offered.

Ben turned his head to regard him.  “Really?” He sounded incredulous.

“Really,” Ryan said. “You sure it’s okay with you?” He didn’t want to do anything Ben wasn’t willing to do, not ever.

Ben nodded shyly. “Promise you won’t laugh if I tell you something…”

Ryan caressed the nape of Ben’s neck, intrigued to know what he was going to say. “I never would,” he assured him.

“I’ve had this fantasy for a long time, of you washing my hair. I know it sounds silly…”

“It absolutely doesn’t,” Ryan said. “Besides, I offered, didn’t I? I wouldn’t have if I didn’t want to.
C’mon, let’s get your hair wet first. Too bad this shower doesn’t have a handheld. We’ll have to do it again sometime, in a better bath.”

Ryan had never even thought about doing this for anyone before, but with Ben it felt natural. He turned Ben so that his back was to the spray, and made sure every strand was dampened. Ben closed his eyes as Ryan worked, allowing him to feast on the sight of him. Ben was so beautiful, he made Ryan’s heart ache. He thought he’d loved him before, but he knew that was the love of a teenager. What he felt now had only matured with time, ripened and blossom into something much stronger.

He took Ben’s hands and led him out of the water, then turned him around again, taking the bottle of shampoo in hand. There were a couple to choose from. The one he picked was marked hibiscus. He squeezed the gel onto one hand, replaced the bottle on the shelf, then rubbed his hands together before running them through Ben’s wet hair. He massaged his way through the strands, making sure to spread the shampoo everywhere.

“You have a fantastic touch.” Ben’s voice was almost a moan. He leaned back toward Ryan.

“I love touching you,” Ryan said. “Everything about you is beautiful. You’re so gorgeous, you could get any man you want.” Where had that come from? Maybe it was because Ben’s back was to him so he felt emboldened to speak his mind.

Ben slid in his arms to face it, a frown marring his forehead. “You’re the only man I’ve ever wanted,” he said. “You’re perfect for me, you’re amazing… I’m the one who’s not—”

“Don’t say that, don’t even think it,” Ryan protested. “You’re everything I’ve ever wanted. You’re beautiful, you’re talented, you have so much charm it should be illegal…”

Ben stilled him with a kiss, and Ryan lost himself in the moment, allowing Ben’s lips to sweep away his perceived inadequacies. Ben loved him, nothing else mattered.

In Pieces #58 (14.3)

The late afternoon sun was warm but not overly so. “Mmm, this feels nice,” Ryan said as he stretched out. They sat close enough together that Ben, who sat to Ryan’s right, had laid his hand on Ryan’s thigh in a possessive gesture that he didn’t mind at all, while he texted with his other hand.

“Aiden and Abs said they’d look for us here. Said they wouldn’t be long.” Ben slid his phone into his pocket. “Yeah, it feels very nice. Not too cold and not too hot.” He glanced over at Ryan, his expression apologetic. “I know we haven’t had much time for us since you got here.”

“Well, I wasn’t expecting any when I took the job,” Ryan replied. “But then I didn’t know you were here, either. I mean, I thought it was just another job.”

“And what is it now?” Ben leaned in closer to Ryan.

“My life,” he replied. “The life I thought I lost ten years ago.” He leaned closer to Ben, until their lips met with a soft sigh. They drew apart, smiling.

“You knew I was coming, you knew it was me. Did you expect this?” Ryan asked, wondering where he’d found the nerve to ask something like that. Maybe with age? What were Ben’s expectations when he arranged for Ryan to go on tour with his band? Did he know they would be together? Or did he anticipate they would have a more businesslike relationship?

“I hoped,” Ben admitted. “And I wanted. But expect? No, I wouldn’t say I expected it. I mean, after ten years, I didn’t know if you would… if you felt….” He seemed to be fumbling for words all of a sudden. Ryan couldn’t help but be touched by the vulnerability in his voice.

“For all I knew, you were already with someone. Or married. Or something.” He cast his eyes down so Ryan couldn’t read his expression.

“I haven’t been with anyone in forever.” Ryan tiled Ben’s face up so he could look into his eyes. “No one ever measured up to you. You were the only one I ever wanted.” His face heated as he remembered his few failed relationships, and the disparaging comments he’d received from them.

“Is something wrong?” Ben’s brows were knit, his look concerned.

“No,” Ryan tried to assure him. “The few guys I went out with… tried to have sex with…” He fumbled for words, embarrassed until Ben gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. “I couldn’t get it up for anyone else,” he finally admitted. “Because they weren’t you. I know that probably sounds silly—”

“No, it sounds amazing.” He raised Ryan’s hand up to his lips and kissed it reverently.

“Did you ever—?” Ryan blurted out before he could stop himself. “I’m sorry, forget I said anything.”

He was horrified at himself for asking. Ben was too beautiful not to have had boyfriends. None of that mattered now. He was with Ryan, and that’s what counted, not who came before. Just because he played a priest on stage didn’t mean he had to live like one.

“Shh.” Ben stilled Ryan’s apology by laying two fingers against Ryan’s lips. “You are the only man I’ve ever loved. The only man I’ve ever been with.”

Ryan felt his heart swell at Ben’s words. He’d known Ben was a virgin when they’d made love for the first time, didn’t mean he hadn’t done anything else. Was it selfish of him to be glad Ben hadn’t touched another man?

But before he could say or ask anything else, he became aware they weren’t alone. Aiden and Abby had arrived, and Deacon and Keanu were right behind them.

“Later,” Ben whispered in a voice that turned Ryan hot and cold at the same time.

Wednesday Briefs: In Pieces #57 (14.2)

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! If it's Wednesday, then it must be time for more flash fiction from the Wednesday Briefers! We're a group of authors who bring you our finest flash fiction every week, 500 to 1000 words, inspired by one of our prompts.

Salvation has arrived at Lake Charles, which will be their base of operations for a few nights. To their delight, the motel their manager has booked them into has a pool! And they don't have to work that night. Maybe they'll get a chance to have some fun. See what's happening in this week's chapter of In Pieces. In Pieces #57 (14.2)

Checking in was easy, since Marge had pre-registered the band. All Ben had to do was show his ID and sign the guest register and the smiling desk clerk gave him three key cards.

“Your rooms are in the back, first floor,” he said, motioning with his thumb in that general direction. “Just follow the parking lot around and you should be able to get a spot right by your rooms. We’re not really very full right now.”  He reached for a colorful brochure from a stack on the counter and handed it Ben. “This lists some of the nearest restaurants,” he told them. “And things to do in Lake Charles too. If you have any questions, or need anything, don’t hesitate to ask. We have a breakfast buffet that opens at six o’clock.”

“Thanks, we will.”

Ryan and Ben walked out of the office, hand in hand, headed toward the car. There was no sign of Keanu and Deacon, but Ryan wasn’t surprised. He could understand wanting to be with someone so badly you couldn’t wait the extra few minutes until you received access to your room. Sometimes, the need was too immediate to be denied.

“Let’s grab our bags and go to our room. They can come get their keys after that,” Ben said. Sounded like a great idea to Ryan.

When they reached Cameron’s sedan, Ryan waited for Ben to open the trunk. “Marge seems very nice,” he commented. “At least from the little I’ve talked to her.”

“She is. Very. Salt of the earth,” Ben replied as he reached into his pocket. “She takes very good care of us. And she’s on top of everything that has to do with business. Shit!”

“What’s the matter?” Ryan war alarmed at Ben’s sudden exclamation, but when Ben began to laugh, Ryan relaxed.

“My bad. I totally forgot Aiden’s got the keys. Guess we’re not going to our room right now, are we? Sorry about that.”

“No big deal,” Ryan assured him. He took Ben’s hand in his and squeezed it. “If that’s the worst that happens to us, we’ll be fine. Besides, they said they wouldn’t be long. Why don’t we text them, and while we wait, we can go sit by the pool?”

“Good idea. I like the way you think.” Ben squeezed Ryan’s hand in return. “The boys can join us here if they like. If they decide to come up for air or something.”

Acting on impulse, Ryan wrapped his arms around Ben and kissed him. He felt as well as heard Ben’s moan as Ben parted his lips. His tongue entered Ryan’s mouth, gently probing and exploring. They drew back only to breathe.

“What brought that on?” Ben asked. “Not that I’m complaining, mind you.”

“That was just because I love you,” Ryan said. “More than anything in the world. And I don’t ever want you to forget that.”

Ben’s beautiful blues eyes sparkled, his smile both shy and radiant. He didn’t speak immediately, color rising in his cheeks. Ryan couldn’t help but think how beautiful he was, and how much he liked him without the contacs.

“You know I feel the same way too, don’t you, Ryan?” His voice vibrated with emotion, as though he was on the verge of tears.

Ryan nodded, not trusting to his own voice at that moment.

“Nothing can separate us ever again, right?” Ben continued in a low voice. “Promise?”

Ryan was both touched and alarmed at Ben’s question. Why did he seem so… desperate? What did he think could possibly separate them, now they had found each other, now they were finally together? Pushing aside his concern and focusing only on alleviating Ben’s fears, Ryan responded in heartfelt tones. “I promise,” he vowed. “You and me forever.”

A wave of relief passed across Ben’s handsome features, his sunny smile returning once more. “Let’s go to the pool,” he said, twining his fingers together with Ryan’s.

As they strolled toward the pool area, Ryan thought to himself that he would reassure Ben as often as Ben needed him to, whatever it took to make his sweet prince happy. And if that made him the princess, then so be it. Or maybe this fairy tale just happened to have two princes after all.

Wednesday Briefs: In Pieces #56 (14.1)

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! If it's Wednesday, then it must be time for more flash fiction from the Wednesday Briefers! We're a group of authors who bring you our finest flash fiction every week, 500 to 1000 words, inspired by one of our prompts.

The boys are headed to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where they'll stay at a motel while they play a few gigs in the surrounding area, then head back toward Lafayette. Life is good! Everything is going great. Their manager is going to meet them when they get into town, and maybe there will be time to play! See what's happening in this week's chapter of In Pieces. In Pieces #56 (14.1)

As the afternoon progressed, Ryan was enjoying the drive so much that he almost hated to see it end. He’d offered to take the wheel for Aiden, but Aiden had graciously declined his proposal with a knowing look, telling him to just sit back and relax. So Ryan and Ben had done just that. They kissed and cuddled in the backseat and listened to the soft jazz that flowed through the car’s speakers, not saying much. But every touch spoke volumes.

At one point, Abby turned around from the front seat to face them, phone in hand.  She wore a mischievous grin as she regarded them. “Want me to take a picture of you guys for the book? Just the way you are now? Ryan can add it to his love on the road chapter.” She winked at them. Ryan had to laugh in spite of himself. He felt too good not to. He knew there was no such chapter— unless, of course, Ben told him he wanted one, and then that was a different story. He stole a glance at his lover. Ben was unfazed. He stuck his tongue out at Abby then asked. “Want that as part of the picture?”

“Naw, you can keep that for Ryan,” she riposted. “But thanks for the offer anyway.”

“Hey guys, I think we’re here,” Aiden interrupted.

Already? Ryan had lost track of their surroundings. He hadn’t realized they’d reached Lake Charles already. Not only that, they were turning into the motel parking lot, just behind the equipment van. He and Ben straightened from their slumped positions to get a first glimpse of the motel. Ryan wasn’t sure what he’d expected, but he was surprised at what he saw. The motel had a definite southwestern vibe, both in style and color.  Yellow stucco walls, with turquoise and brown accents. Colorful earthenware jars, as well as a variety of cacti  with pink, red, and purple blossoms. An expansive parking lot, with plenty of room. And in the midst of it all…

“Swimming pool!” Aiden cried in obvious delight. “Thank you, Jesus!”  He pulled Cameron’s car up beside the van. Deacon and Keanu were just getting out. From their broad grins, Ryan guessed they’d seen the pool too. The water did look inviting, he had to admit. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been swimming.

“Anybody up for a swim?” Keanu asked. “Last one in’s a rotten egg!”

Ben shook his head. “Sounds good, but we can’t. We’re meeting Marge, remember? Besides, we have plenty of time to have fun after we see her. We’re not playing tonight.”

Before Keanu had time to even think about pouting—which Ryan was coming to realize was his favorite method of dealing with situations he didn’t care for— Deacon forestalled him with, “That gives us time to get swim suits too. I’m guessing none of you packed those, right?”

And there was the reality of the situation. Ryan knew he hadn’t brought one. Why would he think to do that? The idea had never occurred to him that he’d need one. He was pretty sure he wasn’t the only one.

“We could always skinny-dip,” Keanu suggested, but one arch of Deacon’s brow brought him back to earth. “Just an idea.” He shrugged.

“An idea that could get us arrested in public. A private pool is one thing, but not here. You want me to cool you off again? Instead of just your head, how about your whole body? Right in the pool, clothes and all.”

Deacon’s words elicited laughter from everyone, even Keanu. Ryan had the feeling he’d never actually go through with his threat, but at least the situation was easily diffused. The two men might be volatile, but not in any way that made him uncomfortable. They complemented one another very well. Keanu was energetic and outspoken, and Deacon was laid-back and sensible. But it was obvious they came first with each other.

Ryan was about to ask Ben something when he noticed Ben’s eyes were raking up and down Ryan’s body, as if he were taking his measure.  “What would you think about a Speedo?” he asked.

Ryan felt his cheeks grow warm. He couldn’t be sure if it was Ben’s words or the look he was giving him. Whatever he’d been about to ask was quickly forgotten. “I don’t think so,” he stammered.”I don’t really have the body for it.”

“Some people might disagree,” Abby said, which only increased the heat in Ryan’s cheeks. Ben patted Ryan’s inflamed cheek gently.

“Don’t worry, you have the body for it, but I’m not about to share that. We’ll find something not quite so….”

“Skimpy?” Aiden suggested.

“Exactly.” Ben winked at Ryan then pulled his phone from his pocket, typing swiftly. When he was done, he pocketed it again. “I just texted Marge. I have no idea where she is, so while we wait to hear from her, why don’t I get us checked in?”

“Sounds like a plan,” Aiden agreed. “I think I’m gonna stretch my legs a little. Wanna come with, Abs?”

“Sounds perfect,” she agreed. “Scout out the area a little bit while we’re at it.”

“We can guard the van,” Keanu offered.

Ben looked pointedly at the back of the van then back to Keanu. “Seriously, dude? As hot as it is?”

“I never said that.” Keanu held up his hands in protest. “You just have a dirty mind.”

“And who gave him the idea in the first place, hmmm?” Deacon folded his arms across his chest and gave Keanu a pointed look.

“I’m not that much of a horndog!” Keanu attempted to defend himself.

“Yeah, right, tell that to someone who doesn’t know you.” Aiden laughed. “We’ll be back in maybe twenty minutes or so. Text us your room number so we can get our key.”

“Will do,” Ben said. “C’mon, Ryan.” He took Ryan’s hand and headed toward the motel office, leaving the two men to their own devices.

In Pieces #55 (13.3)

“What time is Marge meeting us?” Ryan asked.

“I’m supposed to text her when we get in,” Ben said. “I think she said she’d meet us at our motel. Late afternoon, if I remember correctly.” He took a big bite of his sandwich then moaned, as though he’d just died and gone to heaven—sort of the way he sounded when they made love. Ryan thought he could watch Ben forever. Especially when he made faces like that.

Our motel. How Ryan loved the sound of that. He couldn’t wait to get Ben alone in a room of their own.  Not that he didn’t like being around the other guys, but he was always mindful of their close proximity at Cameron’s house. He liked the idea of complete privacy.

They’d stopped at a roadside park just outside of Lafayette to eat lunch and stretch their legs. A number of other travelers, some with small children, were taking advantage of the warm day as well, Ryan noticed, but they had no problem in finding an unoccupied picnic table. When their stomachs began to growl,  Ben had mentioned having a craving for a muffuletta and was shocked to discover no one else had ever heard of them much less eaten one. Hearing that, Ben made it his mission to procure some of the delicious sandwiches, which he said were filled with all kinds of meats and cheeses along with a special olive salad. Luckily, finding muffulettas wasn’t hard to do in Louisiana. They’d found a diner just off the highway that specialized in them, as well as spicy homemade chips.

“You think she’ll come watch you play?” Ryan asked. He sat so close to Ben on the bench that their legs touched.  Aiden and Abby sat across from them. Deacon and Keanu had chosen to lie in the grass, Keanu’s head in Deacon’s lap. Ryan noticed Deacon occasionally feeding Keanu bits of his sandwich.

“Marge? Probably. She likes the way we play.” Ben swiped his finger through some of the olive spread on his sandwich and held it out in front of Ryan in a tantalizing manner, as if enticing him to take a taste. “You love this, don’t you? C’mon, you can admit it,” he teased.

Ryan wasn’t sure whether Ben meant the food or his finger, but the answer to both was a resounding yes. Instead of replying, he took Ben’s finger into his mouth and sucked on it, his eyes locked on Ben’s as he swallowed the spread. He was gratified to find that Ben was just as turned on by his action as he was. Too bad they were hours away from going to bed, and miles away from the motel.  He didn’t think it would be polite to blow off the group’s manager just for a little afternoon delight, although the idea was a tempting one.

“Guys, we’re almost at the hotel.” Abby’s amused voice broke into Ryan’s reverie. “Can you maybe hold out until then? I’d suggest using the van, but I really don’t think there’s room in the back, with all our stuff. Not to mention it’s not exactly romantic. And kinda gross, actually, for what you two have in mind.”

Ryan’s cheeks grew warm as Ben reluctantly took back his finger and winked at him before replying to Abby, his eyes never leaving Ryan’s. “What do you know about having sex in the back of the van?” he teased. “Is there something you want to tell us?”

“I’ve been in the van,” she answered him, never missing a beat. “I know how much room there isn’t back there. Doesn’t take an engineer to figure out how uncomfortable that would be. If you want to know for sure, though, why don’t you ask them?”

That got Ryan’s attention. He glanced toward Abby, who was pointing toward the grass where Deacon and Keanu lay. They grinned back, obviously not embarrassed in the slightest at her accusation, and certainly not denying it either.

“It’s quite cramped,” Keanu offered. “But it’ll do in a pinch. If you’re very careful and don’t get your—”

Deacon laid his fingers gently across his lover’s lips. “No need for an anatomy lesson, I think they get the picture.”

Abby laughed, followed by Aiden, then they were all laughing together.

Keanu motioned to Deacon that he wanted to get up. Deacon stood, then offered Keanu a hand up from the ground. “I think I’m gonna hit the men’s room. Wanna come?”

“And hold your hand?” Deacon smirked.

“No, my dick,” Keanu said with a straight face. That set off another round of laughter. Deacon just shook his head.

“Incorrigible, that’s what you are.”

“And you wouldn’t have me any other way,” Keanu said. “C’mon, big boy.” Deacon rolled his eyes but he didn’t say no, and the two strolled off, hand in hand.

Ryan looked between the others. “You don’t think they’re gonna… I mean… Really?”

“Wouldn’t surprise me,” Aiden said. “Wouldn’t be the first time.”

“But there are kids around,” Ryan protested. Doing it around grown men was one thing, but kids? Not cool at all.

“They’ll be careful,” Ben said. “Don’t worry. Deacon has too much common sense to get them caught with their pants down. This isn’t the place for that.” He wrapped an arm about Ryan, nestling Ryan’s head on his shoulder. “He’ll probably give him a dose of reality, actually, and remind him we’re almost at the motel.”

Ryan hoped he was right. The last thing they needed was to have two members of the group get arrested for indecent exposure, or anything worse. But his fears were allayed a few minutes later when the two returned. Keanu was pouting, and Deacon seemed more than a little smug. Not to mention Keanu’s hair was wet. What had Deacon done to cool him off?

“Time to go,” Ben announced as they gathered their stuff and hit the road once more.

Wednesday Briefs: In Pieces #54 (13.2)

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! If it's Wednesday, then it must be time for more flash fiction from the Wednesday Briefers! We're a group of authors who bring you our finest flash fiction every week, 500 to 1000 words, inspired by one of our prompts.

Ben and Ryan and the rest of Salvation put Mandeville and all unpleasantness behind them as they head out on their first road trip! Everyone is in high spirits, including Abby. A chance sighting of a billboard near Baton Rouge initiates a conversation about Ryan's late father. See how the boys are doing in this chapter of In Pieces. In Pieces #54 (13.2)

Heading north out of Mandeville, they stopped at a gas station/convenience store on the outskirts of town in order to fill the tanks for the trip to Lake Charles. Ryan was glad their route didn’t take them across Lake Pontchartrain for a change, although he felt as though he was starting to get used to the long bridge. Of course, a lot of that had to do with Ben’s presence.

After pumping gas, they went inside and bought breakfast sandwiches and hot coffee, as well as bags of chips and pretzels and sweet treats for later, dividing them between the two vehicles. Deacon was in charge of driving the van, as usual. While it wasn’t equipped with GPS, Keanu’s phone was, and he was happy to play navigator for his lover. Ben decided the sedan would follow behind the van. That way, in case of trouble, they’d be in a better position to help, seeing as the van was the older of the two vehicles.

Ryan was happy to see Abby showed no ill effects from the night before and actually seemed to be her usual happy self. She took great delight in teasing Aiden about the shorts he was wearing, telling him they belonged on a school boy and not a grown ass man, and he retaliated in kind, asking if she thought she was Daisy Dukes.  Ryan thought Abby was prettier than Daisy Dukes, to be honest, and since she had the legs to carry off short shorts, why not? Everyone was casually dressed, a far cry from their stage personas. That only made sense in a state like Louisiana, that was more often than not humid, especially in the summer.  Ben had even persuaded Ryan to follow suit. He felt self-conscious at first about his legs, which he thought were too thin and far too pale. But Ben quickly put him at his ease, telling him they were sexy and anybody could have a tan, and he soon forgot about anything except this road trip, and being with Ben.

Ryan had left his laptop with the rest of their luggage, in the trunk, but he’d thought to bring his notebook and a pen, in case he wanted to take notes on the drive. When Ben saw the notebook, he immediately removed it from Ryan’s hand and set it behind them. “Maybe later,” he said, snuggling close to Ryan, claiming his hand with a grin. Ryan certainly wasn’t about to argue. Whatever Ben wanted, he could have.

Ben rubbed his face against Ryan’s arm, purring like a contented kitten. “We have time for that later,” he said. “Right now is you and me time.”

“Sounds good to me.”

“Me too,” Abby chimed in with a grin. “Let us know if you want us to go for a walk or something.” She winked at them broadly, and they had to laugh. Ryan heard Aiden snort his laughter.

Undeterred, Ben replied, “We’ll let you know.” He nuzzled Ryan without hesitation, as if they were truly alone in their own little world.

Baton Rouge was the first big city on their route from Mandeville. As they drew closer, Ryan spotted a billboard on the side of the highway, that had a picture of a naval destroyer. USS Kidd, the legend read. Located in beautiful downtown Baton Rouge. Come visit history!

“Dad was in the Navy,” Ryan blurted out the first thing that came to his mind.

“I didn’t know that.” Ben had been lying with his head in Ryan’s lap, while Ryan stroked his hair. He pivoted his position in order to look up into Ryan’s eyes. “What made you think of that?”

“Oh, a billboard we passed, that’s all.” Ryan was sometimes hesitant to bring up Dad around Ben. He knew Ben had loved him, and he was sure their separation had to be painful for him. Coupled with his inability to even come to Dad’s funeral. “USS Kidd. It’s moored in Baton Rouge, apparently.”

Ben didn’t say anything immediately, and Ryan wanted to kick himself. He needed to edit his words a little better in future. But before he could make any sort of amends, Ben spoke first.

“You know we’re playing Baton Rouge on the way back, don’t you?”

“We are?”

“Yeah. Want to visit the ship when we do? I mean, even if Dad didn’t serve on that particular ship, it could be interesting, don’t you think? Something to remind us of him?”

Ryan was touched by Ben’s words. “I-I hope it doesn’t bother you when I mention Dad,” he said. “I know you must miss him as much as I do. Maybe more. I mean, I got to see him, up until… when he… “ He didn’t want to say the word all of a sudden. Dad’s death was still too fresh. He might know intellectually that his father was gone, but in his heart, sometimes it seemed as though he was just a phone call away.

“Not at all,” Ben assured him. He sat up until he was sitting in Ryan’s lap. Ryan was pretty sure that was illegal, but he wasn’t about to say anything and ruin the moment. He could see that Ben’s eyes were wet, even as he felt a tear fall down his own cheek.

Ben used his thumb to brush away Ryan’s tear, then kissed him softly. “He was a good man. I’d love to hear more about him, when you’re ready to tell me.”

“I’d like that,” Ryan said, returning the kiss. It was on the tip of his tongue to ask about Ben’s mother, it almost made sense since they were discussing the past, but the words refused to form. Even now, he didn’t want to think about her. Maybe Ben would bring her up. But he didn’t, and the moment passed.

Wednesday Briefs: In Pieces #53 (13.1)

Good morning and Happy Hump Day! If it's Wednesday, then it must be time for more flash fiction from the Wednesday Briefers! We're a group of authors who bring you our finest flash fiction every week, 500 to 1000 words, inspired by one of our prompts.

Last week saw Abby's boyfriend Brandon get his comeuppance after he said hurtful things about Ryan and Ben. Good riddance! Now it's time to get ready for their road trip. First stop - Lake Charles. See what's going on with the boys in this week's chapter of In Pieces. Don't forget to visit the other Briefers and see what's going on with them. Their links follow my tale! Enjoy!

In Pieces #53 (13.1)

Sleeping in felt nice, especially after the rough time they’d gone through the night before. After Brandon’s precipitate departure, the band had gone on to play their last set. Ryan kept a careful eye on the door, in case Brandon came back, although what he would have done if he had he didn’t know, but there was no sign of the asshole. Everything went well, the crowd loved Salvation, and they ended the evening on a positive note. After they finished and packed up the van, the owner, Clete, had invited them for a drink. Not wanting to be rude to someone who’d given them the chance to play, they spent a few minutes talking to him before they finally left. Clete had nothing but nice things to say about them, and he told them they were welcome to come back to his place and play any time.  Nothing was said of the incident with Brandon on the drive back to Mandeville, at least not in the car. Impossible to tell what Deacon and Keanu were discussing in the van.  Once they reached Cameron’s house, everyone had parted company and gone to bed without the usual nightcap, or even a recap of the night’s performance, deciding  the need for sleep trumped everything else.

Alone in their room, Ryan and Ben made love, despite the lateness of the hour, reveling in each other’s touch, washing away the vestiges of Brandon’s hateful words with their love. By the time they got out of bed the next morning, they found the rest of the band was already up and were in the process of packing for the road trip. Glancing out the front window, Ryan noticed Cameron’s truck was still missing. Ryan didn’t really mind. Cameron’s presence was sometimes disruptive, and they didn’t need more of that.

They headed to the kitchen to see what was there they could make breakfast from. As Ben was looking through the shelves, Ryan took advantage of his position to admire his very fine ass. He was still staring at it when Ben glanced up unexpectedly and caught him. A wide grin spread across Ben’s face.

“See something you like?” He gave a little wiggle for good measure. Ryan felt his cheeks grow warm, but he couldn’t deny the sentiment.

“Very much,” he said. “Think we have time to go back upstairs?” Being with Ben made him feel like a horny teenager again. Before Ben could respond, Abby cleared her throat behind them, startling Ryan. He hadn’t been aware of her presence, too absorbed in Ben to notice.

“Sorry to interrupt, guys. Just wanted to let you know the equipment’s in the van. Are we taking Cameron’s car or what?”

Ryan hadn’t even thought about that. If they were going to be away for a while, would he want them to use his car?

“I don’t even know where he is,” Ben said, yawning as he closed the door of the refrigerator. “There’s nothing in there, by the way. We’ll have to stop on the road.” As if on cue, Ryan heard a distinct ding.
Ben pulled his phone from his pocket. “Speak of the devil,” he murmured.  He glanced at the screen before looking up at them. “He says good luck on the tour, go ahead and use his car and gas card, and he’ll catch up with us later.”

“That answers that,” Abby said. “Did you guys pack yet?”

Ryan had been planning to do that this morning. He was fairly sure Ben was too. So, of course, the answer was no. Abby must have seen the truth in his face. “Don’t worry, you’re not the only ones. Keanu isn’t ready either, Deacon’s been reminding him of it all morning.” She snorted a laugh.

“Well, then, I guess we should take care of that.” Ben turned so his back was to Abby and gave Ryan a wink. Ryan instantly understood what Ben had in mind. At the thought alone, his dick began to swell.

“Maybe you should,” Abby agreed. “But maybe you should do it one at a time, if you know what I mean?”

“We’re grown men, I think we can control ourselves,” Ben said, giving Ryan another surreptitious wink before facing Abby. “How old do you think we are?”

“Age has nothing to do with it, sweetie.” She patted his cheek. “You’re the one who said you wanted to be on the road by noon, that’s all I’m saying.”

Aiden entered the kitchen, stopping beside his twin. “What are we doing?” he asked. “You find out what we’re supposed to be driving?”

“Cameron’s car,” Ben interjected. “He texted and told us to take it. I figured he would.”

“Cool.” Aiden nodded. “Abs, want me to get the bags and load them?”

“Well, I’m not sure if there’s a rush.” She arched her brows at Ben and Ryan.

“Yeah, go ahead and get your bags. Ryan and I are going up now. To pack,” he hastily inserted before Abby could question his motives any further. “We should get going. I want to get something to eat too, before we hit the road. Maybe pick up some snacks and drinks so we don’t have to stop for a while.”

“You still want me to drive?” Aiden asked.

“If you don’t mind,” Ben replied. “We can trade off later.”

“It’s only three hours, no big deal.” Aiden shrugged.

“You know, I can drive too,” Abby said. “Just throwing that out there.”

“I know you can,” Aiden responded with a grin.

“I was telling them more than you, bro.”

“Well all righty then. I’ll go get our bags while you two pack.” He headed toward the stairs.
Guess that wasn’t going to happen then. He’d have to wait until they got to the motel. At least they’d be alone then. Where were they going, again? Oh yeah, Lake Charles.

“C’mon, cutie,” Ben said. He took Ryan’s hand and they followed Aiden toward the stairs.
