Donovan's Deal by Lee Brazil

Blurb:

Making a family is harder than keeping house. Donovan's patience is wearing thin, but Mischa needs time to make things right. Will Christmas bring heartache or compromise?

Mischa Blake needs the relaxation of the Blake brothers' weekly poker games now more than ever as he feels the pressure of his responsibilities as a parent, partner, and student multiplying. When one of his siblings proposes reviving their game of Truth or Dare, Mischa revolts. Instead, they all agree to share a truth, and Mischa has to decide how much of his domestic situation to share with his family.

The frantic pace of life is overwhelming, and Mischa has begun to let things slide. With the holidays just around the corner, he figures his current situation is a temporary thing. When he misses one of his son's soccer game that Donovan left work early to attend, time runs out.
Upset by the hurt in their son's eyes, Donovan decides that something must be done. He's worried that he's pushed Mischa into doing things at the wrong time, pushed his dreams on his young lover, just pushed too hard for too much in general.

In a desperate attempt to get Mischa to think about what he wants instead of what Donovan wants, Donovan issues an ultimatum. He sends Mischa away with orders to think about his priorities.

Excerpt

"Where have you been, Mischa?"

It took a moment for the impact of the question to soak into his lust-dazed mind. But he got it. Furious, he pushed Donovan's hands off and stepped back. "What do you mean where have I been? Last time I checked, I was an adult capable of coming and going as I pleased."

"That's funny. Really. Because last time I checked you and I were partners, the next best thing to married, and the fathers of a disturbed child who needs structure, routine, and love."

Donovan's voice lost its reasonable tone and his anger was clear. Tough. Fury coursed through Mischa's veins. Was Donovan suggesting somehow that he was at fault? "I am still your partner, and Matt's father. But that doesn't mean I don't have other responsibilities and can just hang around here picking up after the two of you."

"Is that how you see us? Responsibilities? I guess that answers me pretty neatly, doesn't it?"
His jaw worked furiously. Fist clenched at his side, Mischa opened his mouth to speak.

"Just...stop. Whatever clever, rebellious retort you're about to make, hold on to it. Don't say something you can't unsay. Just, please, listen to me," Donovan interrupted him.

Mischa drew in a long, deep breath. Yeah, what he'd probably been about to say might have hurt someone's feelings...but what about his feelings? He nodded.

"I pushed you into too much, too quickly. The last three years should have been you enjoying college, us enjoying each other, and instead, I pushed you to adopt and be a parent. It was too much. But I could swear that you loved him as much as I did the moment we set eyes on Matt."
Heart aching, Mischa whispered, "I did." What the fuck was going on? Why did it sound like Donovan was breaking up with him?

"The thing is, Mischa. We're adults. We made all the choices and Matt got pulled along with us. Now, I understand how you could want to be free, to hang out with your friends, go to parties and..." He waved a hand. "Do whatever you want."

A warming flush spread over his face and Mischa lost all interest in sex. "What are you talking about?"

"You were supposed to be here to go to the soccer game with us. You said you were going to the library. You disappeared. Ran off with Dex and Trick without even bothering to tell us where you were going, because I'm damn sure you didn't take those two to the library with you! How do you suppose that made me feel? How do you think it made Matt feel?"

Biting his lip, Mischa stared at his lover. "I..."

"I'm an adult and I can handle it, Mischa. But Matt is a child and he's been hurt by enough people who are supposed to care for him. I can't let you keep hurting him like that."

"I love Matt. I'd never hurt him."

"Your not being here hurts him, Mischa." Donovan met his gaze steadily. "You need to take the weekend and think this through."

Teaching Teacher by Raven McAllan

Blurb
Finding love in a new town had not been in Seb's plans. But life has a tendency to throw you curveballs – like Ruari.

When the new head teacher walks into his bar, Ruari knows he has to have him, and damn the consequences. When lust turns to love, nothing else matters. Together they will overcome, no matter what. Or will circumstances drive them apart?

Excerpt

Ruari's head was spinning, his arms were stiff, his cock ached, and he wanted to be alone with Seb. It seemed like hours, but was probably no more than forty-five minutes, before he judged they could leave his bar staff to finish off. He swung behind the bar, grabbed a surprised Seb, and kissed him full on the lips. Cheers and catcalls sounded from the people around the bar.
"You." He finished off with a squeeze to Seb's ass, "are a fucking star. Definitely, a fucking star."
"Too much info, boss." Dave was smirking at him.

Oh fucking shit. He realized where he was. Bollocks and buggery and any other appropriate epithets. How the hell was he going to sort this monumental cock-up out? He chanced a look at Seb's expression, and sighed inwardly with relief. Seb was laughing.

"Feet. Mouth into?" Seb asked him.

He nodded. "As Ever. Okay we're finished here. Coffee?"

Seb nodded. Kizzy, who had walked up to them unnoticed made a face, and sniggered. "That is the most pathetic euphemism I've heard boss. Coffee. Hah!" She carried on past them, still sniggering.

"Gotcha there, Boss." Dave patted him on the back. "Take yourself off for er coffee. Don't forget the Swiss roll with it."

"Hells bells." Ruari almost pushed Seb through the door and into the stairwell of his flat. "Are you sure you still want to take a chance on me. I shouldn't be let out without a keeper. And my lips sealed."

Seb pulled him tightly towards his body. Cock found cock and reacted in the best possible way. "Oh, you're not reneging now, boss man." Seb moved so his cock surged upwards. "All that is so easily arranged."

"Huh?" He was so caught up in the sensations of Seb hard against him, he'd lost the thread of the conversation.

"Lips sealed and a keeper. I'll be happy to be in charge of all that. Soon." Seb said.
"Okay, so, first we have coffee?"

Seb smiled and squeezed Ruari's arm. "Coffee, where's your car?"

Merry Christmas, Shelton by Dianne Hartsock

Blurb
Can Shelton and Nevil overcome the obstacles of a blizzard, a baby, and one hot redhead and find their way to a merry Christmas?

Shelton and Nevil have rented a cozy cabin in the mountains in which to spend the Christmas holiday. Tree is lit. Presents sparkle. Shelton anticipates a very merry Christmas indeed. But then a blizzard springs up, landing a sexy redhead on their doorstep looking like trouble in a pretty package.

Tommy brings a message for Nevil, but when he first hits on Shelton in the shower, then offers to drive Nevil to his sister's side while she has her baby, Shelton begins to wonder just how this mixed up Christmas is going to end.
Excerpt

Shelton woke from a sound sleep, disoriented by a pounding on the door. He untangled from Nevil and sat up, heart racing. A glance at the clock showed it was barely three o'clock in the morning. What the hell? The pounding resumed and he scrambled to his feet, taking a second to slip on sweat pants before unlocking the door. The wind had died down and Shelton blinked at the snow piled up against the cabin walls. A slight figure huddled on the step, illuminated by the porch light, and without hesitation Shelton drew him into the warmth of the room, closing the door on the bitter night.

"What's happened?"

Shelton jumped a little at Nevil's voice and blinked as the light went on overhead. There was a gasp from the bundle under his hand and he searched the pale face the young man raised. The pretty blue eyes weren't looking at him and he followed his gaze to where his lover stood in all his naked splendor. Nevil scowled at their interest and pulled on the cotton pajama bottoms he'd picked up.

Shelton gave the boy a slight shake, knocking snow off his jacket and cap. "God, you're soaked through! You need to get out of those clothes. Nevil, can you stir up the fire?"

"Of course."

As if knowing his danger, the young man stripped off his coat and sopping shirt while Shelton unlaced his boots and carefully slipped them off, leaving the socks for now. Ski pants and under armor were lowered and the young man leaned a hand on Shelton's shoulder as he stepped out of them. Shelton glanced up and found himself on eye level with a pair of dark boxers that did little to cover the treasures beneath. His gaze swept up a tight stomach and muscular chest and clashed with laughing eyes. Trouble!

He cleared his throat. "Come to the fire and I'll check for frostbite."

The young man followed him, lifting the cap off a shock of copper hair. He sat on the quilts and Nevil draped one over his shoulders while Shelton knelt beside him. "Hands first," he said and slid the wet gloves by careful inches off his hands. The skin felt cold and white, but the fingertips weren't blue. "Can you move them?"

He looked up when the young man didn't answer and met his puzzled gaze. "You're really concerned, aren't you?"

The man sounded slightly amused and Shelton felt the blush in his cheeks as he answered, "Yes. I saw a boy with frostbite last winter, in Colorado. It was...painful to witness. Let's check those toes."

He removed the damp socks with the same care as the gloves, and sighed in relief when the boy wiggled each toe. Nevil snorted from where he leaned against the mantle watching the proceedings. "Now that we know nothing is going to fall off, can you tell us what the hell you're doing here?"

"Tera Shaw left a message for you at the lodge." He smirked when Nevil straightened, tense. "I volunteered to bring it. She says she's fine, but that they're admitting her to the hospital in the morning. She'd like you to be there as soon as you can."

"I'll go immediately."

"No, sir. The snow's not too bad at the lodge, but worse up here. We'll have to wait for the snowplow to get your car out."

Nevil paced the room, cursing under his breath. Shelton heard the young man's breath quicken as he watched the lithe movements of the sleek body, and frowned. "What's your name?" he asked as a distraction. "Tommy."

Of course it was. A cute name for a pretty face and sexy, youthful body.Damn.

"Well, Tommy, thanks for risking your neck for us. Why don't you get some sleep here by the fire?" Shelton climbed stiffly to his feet and went to Nevil's side. "Come to bed, honey." Nevil grunted and Shelton slid an arm around his waist. "Try to sleep, at least a little. It's going to be a long day tomorrow."

Nevil relaxed against him. "You're right." He allowed Shelton to lead him to their room, and paused in the doorway to glance back at Tommy. "Thanks, man."

"My pleasure," Tommy said with a purr.

Shelton's lips thinned at the interest in the young man's gaze and tugged Nevil into the room, purposefully closing the door. He pushed his lover on the bed, cuddled up to him under the blankets, and held him close until they slept.

Six Sentence Sunday - 1-13-13

Here's my next Six Sentence Sunday. It's taken from a book that I've subbed to Dreamspinner, so cross your fingers for me. The name of it is When Will I See You Again. Raoul and Jamie are young and in love. Raoul is a werewolf, and it's Halloween night. They slipped away from the party at his parents' beach house for some alone time of their own.  Enjoy! For more of Six Sentence Sunday, go here!

“I love you,” Jamie murmured in a voice that shook with emotion, just before he impaled himself.

Raoul gasped, feeling himself sheathed in the warmth that was Jamie. Tightness and heat and everything that made life worth living—Jamie was all of that and more.

“God, I love you,” he blurted out in reply. He reached for one of Jamie’s hands, twining the fingers together as Jamie began to rock on his cock. Back and forth he rocked, with a heated urgency.

Since I have no cover, obviously, I'll leave you with the cover from Revelations, which I love to death!

Until next time, take care!

♥ Julie

A Purrfect Match Review

A Purrfect Match
Author: Chris T. Kat
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
American release date: December 10, 2012
Format/Genre/Length: Novel/M/M Paranormal Romance/236 pages
Overall Personal Rating: ★★★★ (4.5)

Jim Sanders is not having a good day. The promotion he felt he deserved went to someone else, a younger white man. To relieve some of his tension, Jim goes home and shifts into his cat form, prowling the city. The day goes from bad to worse when he gets caught in an unexpected thundershower and has to take refuge in an unfamiliar part of town. Just his damn luck that he ends up on the porch of his new boss, Andrew Wright, and that Andrew’s son Tony catches the wet feline and wants to keep him as a pet named Mr. Frosty!

Synopsis:

Jim just can’t shift in the middle of his boss’ house, excuse himself and go home, especially as he would end up being naked in the process, and very vulnerable. He has no choice but to go along, for now, with being Mr. Frosty. It turns out that Tony, Andrew’s son, is a very lonely boy. And it’s amazing how much people will open up to animals, tell them things that they wouldn’t admit to other people.

Jim doesn’t intend to get involved. He figures he’ll split at the first opportunity and go home. After all, he has a job to go to, a life to lead.

But then he finds himself listening to Tony… and Andrew… and his initial attraction to Andrew is only growing stronger. It’s more than mere physical, although he certainly finds Andrew very attractive. But this can go nowhere for so many reasons.

Right?

What’s a cat to do?

Commentary:

When I first read the blurb for this book, I was drawn in, being a cat lover myself. I was fortunate to win a copy of it, and couldn’t wait to read it. Normally, I don’t have a lot of time to read, so it might take a while to get through a book. I tore through this one in record time! It is so compelling! I was just dying to find out how Jim was going to handle everything, see what became of him and Andrew, him and Tony, and Mr. Frosty and everyone. I could barely stand to put it down.

This is my first experience with Chris T. Kat, but it certainly won’t be the last. Her characters are so warm and human and real. I just wanted to hug them all. The little boy having a tough time adjusting to a new life in a strange place where he felt unaccepted. The father, having suffered through a bad relationship, in a new job, struggling to keep things together for his son. Jim who, against his better judgment and being pissed off about losing out on a promotion, can’t help his attraction to the man who got it, although he’s always preferred to be alone before and has never wanted a family.

This story is filled with humor and warmth and a great deal of love. I especially love the scene where Jim comes out to Andrew in a very moving omigod moment.

I look forward to seeing what else Ms. Kat brings to the party. This one was damn near purrfect….

Interview with a Vampire

As you'll recall, just a couple of months ago I brought to you an interview with the sexy demon Asmodeus. Well, today I bring you another interview, but this time it's with a smexy vampire. Oh my... Again, this opportunity came about through the auspices of M.A. Church. For which I'm very grateful. So, let us continue, shall we?

Interview with a vampire

I’ve returned to the night club known as Night Moves because you know I’d do anything for my readers, right? And it has nothing to do with that hot hunk of demon named Asmodeus.

No, not a damn thing.

Yeah, right, and anyone who believes that goes onto my list of those I wish to sell waterfront property to.
At any rate, I’ve returned, having received a communication from aforementioned Asmodeus that I have another interview set up. This one is with Chaus, who is a vampire. Oh my, how my heart does flutter at the idea. I am a huge fan of vampires, and the thought of being up close and personal with one… well, it’s got my blood flowing, that’s for sure.

Night Moves looks pretty much as I remember it. Asmodeus told me to go to the same table on the second floor, and I do. There I find a rather amazing sight. Sitting before me is a gorgeous guy with shoulder length red hair (if you know me and you’ve seen Dracula, you know why that affects me!). He’s flanked on either side by a pretty boy. The boys are as alike as two peas in a pod, although one has dimples and the other has that much vaunted and much loved butt chin.

Oh my.

Doesn’t take a psychic to figure out which is the vampire. He waves me into a chair and I sit quickly, before I get a chance to melt. But just to be sure, I have to ask.

“You are Chaus, yes?” I hope so, because you sure are purty…

“Indeed I am, Ms. Hayes. Welcome, and please, have a seat. May I say how honored I was when the Prince of Lust informed me of this interview? Would you like something to drink before we start?”

I slide into the chair opposite the three hotties, so mesmerized that I blurt out the first thing that comes to mind, without thinking. “Can I have a buttery nipple, please?”

Can my face grow any hotter? Although blessed be that I didn’t vocalize my next thought, which was sex on the beach.

“I will assume that is a drink, and not a fetish.” I snap my fingers and one of my pets… my lovely mate Jordan… leans closer to me.

“Yes, Sir?”

“Bring the lady her drink, sweetie.” I watch as he hurries off, a slight limp in his gait from the spanking he received earlier. I’d warmed his ass up before bending him over and fucking him. His screams of pleasure still ring in my ears. It’s always a fight to get Jordan to lose his valued control. “So, what is it you want to ask me, Ms. Hayes?”

I may be a writer, but journalism is not my natural milieu, it’s something I do for my blog, so perhaps I’m not the best at formulating questions. But I try. So here goes nothing and sorry if I say what comes to mind.
“You are one gorgeous… you know…” At least I didn’t say it aloud, right? “Who are your friends?”  I suspect I know, but I’d like to hear it from him. He has a lovely voice, by the way. I try not to imagine if the drapes match the carpet, although I suspect I’ll never find out from eyewitness testimony.

I grin at the look in her eyes. “Thank you. And the two standing by me are not friends. Not at all. They, my lovely Ms. Hayes, are my mates… and my pets. Mine to have and do with as I wish… for eternity. Ah, and here is Jordan with your drink. I hope you enjoy it. Now, if you wish to ask Jordan or Allen questions, they have my permission to speak.”

I take the drink from the young man and quickly sip, before I say something really stupid. Like, do you swing both ways? The idea that these two sexy guys are both his… did he say mates... blows my everloving mind.
“So, Jordan and Allen…” I address them both, at least until I figure out who’s who. “I presume you’re brothers.” No duh, right? “Tell me a little about yourselves, if you would.” I look between them, hoping whoever chooses to speak first will identify himself. It would help.

“I’m Jordan, the oldest. I was the COO of several world famous high-end department stores our father owned. We, ah, used to hang out at lot here.”

“And I’m Allen. I was the CFO. We both had business degrees from Harvard. And what my brother is trying to say is that we hunted men to fuck when we came here. We, ah, don’t do that anymore.”

“Oh now, pets. Why not tell the lady how you destroyed so many lives in your business? How you both used the men you took home as nothing more than asses to fuck. How delightfully amoral you both were? And how the two of you had intended to use me in the same way.” I grin, showing my fangs and allowing my eyes to lighten to that eerie pale blue. If Ms. Hayes is frightened, then that’s her problem. But somehow I don’t think she will be… after all, she interviewed the Prince of Lust.

“We have a thing for redheads,” Allen whispered, his eyes glued to Chaus. “Well, we did. Now we have a thing for our master. We had marked Chaus as the one we intended to take home that night and fuck.”

“It didn’t quite work out that way,” Jordan said. “We had no idea what we were messing with until it was too late. He… took Allen’s mind over and made me obey him or else he threatened to kill Allen. That night ended in a totally different way than we imagined.”

“Indeed it did,” I said. “I had been searching for a very long time for one that was as evil as I am. I was delighted to find two that met my requirements. And I took them. Now, they obey me. And I can be a very harsh task master.”

I refrain from remarking that I’m a redhead. I suspect that would make no difference for obvious reasons. Besides, it’s the vamp that attracts me, the other two are just… boys.  I try not to think too hard about what he looks like naked. His eyes… so sexy. Damn.

“Sounds fascinating,” I murmur, my eyes fixed on Chaus. “Tell me, um, do you have any… unusual ways of… drawing blood?” I keep telling myself that I’m asking for my readers, not my own titillation.

“Oh, I have plenty of places to bite on the body. But my favorite is…” I laugh outright at Jordan’s blush. I know he’s remembering where I threatened to bite him that first time. I didn’t; instead I bit down on the inside of his thigh, into the femoral artery, while Allen fed too. Only later did I actually bite him on his most sensitive bits. Oh my, how he howled with pleasure. “Ye Gods, Ms. Hayes, you certainly bring back lovely memories. Might I perhaps suggest reading the book, if you want to know more? I also believe Church said she’s working on the last one in the series.”

“Yes, she told me the same thing.” Has my voice taken on a bit of a dreamy cast? I clear my throat hastily.

“Yes, yes, I will, I promise.” I’d ask him for a later rendezvous, but why tempt rejection? Besides, I think I’ve just been dismissed, albeit politely.

Almost as if I was compelled—what a silly idea, right?—I rise from my seat and he rises with me, and I feel his lips on the back of my hand… oh my

Suddenly I’m back in my office. How did that happen? Doesn’t matter. What a charming man… I drift away on daydreams and sigh.

Tag: Jordan and Allen are out for fun, but they're playing a dangerous game with an ancient predator...

Blurb: Pounding music and writhing bodies fill the dance floor at Night Moves. Brothers Jordan and Allen share everything, and are part of a very small, very elite group of friends. What do they have in common? More money, power, and connections than most people can even fathom. These young men consider themselves above the law. Spoilt, powerful, and totally amoral, they use men without a thought for the consequences of their actions. Tonight the brothers have their sights set on a sexy redhead -- they're determined to have him in their bed!
Chaus is an ancient vampire as cold as his deadly kiss. Driven by a taste for kink, he's searched for centuries to find someone as debauched and sinful as he is, only to be continuously disappointed by humans and nonhumans alike. One desire drives him: a pet to call his mate that he can torture and pleasure with his lethal desires. His hunt has brought him to Night Moves, and he's on the prowl.

Jordan and Allen are out for fun, and they place a bet on a deadly game. But they're playing with a predator -- and a dark, hidden secret that the brothers possess will be the catalyst that brings Fate down on them. The Bad Boys Club has once again picked the wrong target to play with.

Excerpt:
Jordan sat at the conference table, dispassionately watching a certain Mr. Havers fall apart. He, Allen, and their father had just finished taking over a very small family-owned chain of boutiques they’d been watching for a while now. The owner hadn’t wanted to sell -- the business had been in his family for several generations. It hadn’t mattered in the end. Jordan and Allen wanted the chain, so they used their wealth and power to take it. He and Allen planned to run it themselves, and run it the way they wanted. Which hadn’t gone over well with the previous owner. The brothers needed a hobby to occupy their time, and this was it. Neither man cared that there were people’s livelihoods tied to that business.
“You’re going to what? But you don’t understand,” Mr. Havers nearly yelled, drawing Allen’s attention from a stack of papers that sat before him. “These people have families to support. If you fire them, in this economy, it’s unlikely they’ll find jobs anytime soon. Please, they’re good, hardworking, and loyal workers. The best you could ask for.”
Allen looked to Jordan and rolled his eyes. “Not our problem.”
“We don’t want them. They’re loyal to you, not us.” Jordan sipped his coffee, completely unconcerned that over five hundred people would be out of a job in two weeks. “We’re restructuring from the ground up. End of story. Out with the old and in with the new, if you will.”
Mr. Havers pounded his fist on the table. “These are people with bills to pay, children to take care of, college fees to deal with, mortgages… please don’t do this. It’s bad enough you forced me to sell, but don’t punish them. Most of my workers are close to the core group of our customers.”
Allen hooted. “After we’re done, we’ll be targeting a better class of customers. That’s another reason your employees aren’t needed.”
Mr. Havers gaped at the insult.
Jordan stood. “It’s a done deal, Mr. Havers. You no longer have a say, and frankly, I couldn’t care less what happens to your employees. Or, for that matter, you. We made you a damn good offer for your chain in the beginning. It’s not my fault you didn’t take it, and you ended up with less and your people lost their jobs. With their skill sets, maybe they can flip hamburgers at some fast-food place. They’ll find something, I’m sure. Regardless, as Allen said, it’s not our problem. It’s nothing personal, just business. You understand, surely? And this meeting is now over.”
Allen gathered all the papers together and looked at his watch. “We’ve spent enough time on this. Good day, Mr. Havers.”
Mr. Havers rose so swiftly that his chair flew back, hitting the wall. “You bastards. You don’t give a shit about anyone but your own kind. It’s the average working man that keeps this country --”
“Oh Lord, here we go singing the praises of the working man.” Allen sneered as he stood up. “I’m calling Security.”
“Good idea,” Jordan said. “We have somewhere else we need to be.”
Mr. Havers picked up his coffee and threw the lukewarm beverage at Jordan. He stormed to the door, yanking it open so hard it left a dent in the wall. “Don’t bother, I’m leaving. You both are nothing more than animals. If there’s any justice in this world, you’ll meet someone who will ruin the both of you the way you’ve ruined so many others.” The door slammed shut behind him.
“Yeah, right.” Allen looked at Jordan. “He got you good, didn’t he?”
“He’s nobody, less important than the dirt under my feet.” Jordan shrugged, annoyed. He used a napkin to blot his shirt. “Damn shirt probably costs more than everything he wore to this meeting.”
“I’d have to say he especially didn’t like you.”
“Now the feeling is mutual.” Jordan rolled his eyes as he tossed the napkin. “Like we care what happens to those employees. Come on, let’s get out of here. I’m going to have to change before we party.”
* * *
Jordan leaned on the railing, looking down at the wiggling mass below him. Lights flashed and music thumped as bodies writhed on the dance floor of Night Moves, a trendy upscale bar. The floor was crowded. It was Friday night, after all, and time to celebrate. “Do you see him, Allen?”
“No, I lost… wait. There he is. Yeah, I got him now. Damn, can we pick ‘em or what? Fuck, Jordan, I can’t wait to see him on his knees with my cock buried in his ass while he sucks you.”
Jordan scanned the crowd down on the dance floor until he found their prey. There he was. Poor Allen. He might want the guy, but he was just going to have to wait. Jordan planned on having that redhead’s ass first. He was, after all, the older brother.
Jordan’s smile faded. He’d hoped this one would be different. Over the last several months the hunt he and Allen had taken part in had become… boring.
He was bored. God, how ludicrous was that? He got all the ass he wanted, and still he was bored.
Maybe he was getting jaded, but the thrill was fading. The guys he and Allen picked up were all the same. They fell into their beds with hardly a whimper, got fucked, then went home. He wanted… Jordan exhaled silently. He didn’t know what he wanted. But he damn sure knew this lifestyle was getting old. It would be… nice… if he could find someone who fit his needs; someone who could stand on his own as easily as he did, but would give up control when he demanded. That was his idea of the perfect ideal man… right?
“So?” Allen nudged him, interrupting his thoughts.
The roving lights of the club wandered over their choice, his red hair shining for just that moment, and Jordan’s cock hardened. Both he and his brother had a thing for redheads. A smirk tilted his lips as he watched their prey’s body grind on the dance floor. He sincerely hoped their guy had freckles. He loved tracing those sexy little brown dots with his tongue while their chosen piece of ass cried out in pleasure.
Their friends, Hugh and Kain, didn’t get their fascination with gingers. They didn’t understand how well that pale skin showed marks… like those from his hand slapping down on an upturned ass.
“So… what?” Jordan so enjoyed winding his brother up.
He rested his elbows on the railing. For VIP’s, the club had a decadent, kinky side. The second level was members only, and membership was awarded on the basis of money, power, and prestige. The second level was where other jaded predators like he and his friends roamed. The bottom level -- the dance floor -- was where the fresh meat was displayed. After all, every predator needed prey.
“Don’t start that shit with me, Jordan. I’m not in the mood for games tonight,” Allen hissed. “We’ve scored once today, and I’m ready to celebrate.”
“Really? But isn’t that what this is? A game?”

But her most beloved hobby is reading. From an early age, she can remember hunting for books at the library. Later nonhuman and science fiction genres captured her attention and drew her into the worlds the authors had created. But always at the back of her mind was the thought that one day, when the kids were older and she had more time, she would write a book.
By sheer chance she stumbled across a gay male romance story on the web and was hooked. A new world opened up and she fell in love. Thus the journey started. When not writing or researching, she enjoys reading the latest erotic and mainstream romance novels.

Wednesday Briefs: Stan and Ollie #12

Happy Wednesday, one and all! Today I am with you in spirit only, as I've gone to Indiana to visit my daughter! I'll be back tomorrow. In the meantime, I leave you with this week's Wednesday Brief! This week's prompt was: "survival of the fittest" or use: tarragon, root, energy, or "Please pass me the..." or "One plus one equals..." or use: redemption, salvage, spice or use a joker in  your story.

Also, I'm guest blogging on my friend Marian Lanouette's blog, talking about Revelations. Stop by and say hello!

Last week, the boys (and the ladies at the beauty salon) heard something shocking! The story continues in this week's installation of Stan and Ollie. Enjoy! Then don't forget to see what the other Wednesday Briefers are up to. Their links follow my tale!

Stan and Ollie #12

The gasping that follows that startling declaration would probably measure 8 or 9 on the Richter scale of shocked exclamations, assuming there was such a thing.

Damn, I’m glad we decided to come here.

Fortuitous choice. I’m not saying that women gossip more than men. Hell no, that’s a definite stereotype, and I’ve listened to too many members of my own sex to know that. But I do have to say this. Women tend to have their fingers on the pulse of what is going on in situations where most men can be oblivious. I truly believe in women’s intuition.

“What do you mean, condition? Is Emmy sick? Is she dying?” one young woman exclaims.

A snort is heard from my stylist. “Mary Lou, are you kidding? You’re old enough to understand by now…”

“You mean—”

“I mean that Bodean’s done put a bun in her oven,” Myrtle explains. “And you know what else that means?”

No one ventures an opinion. Me, I’m just a bystander, not about to put my two cents in, but I have an idea, even in this day and age. Her next words affirm my guess.

“Shotgun wedding. Probably before Little Missy gets a chance to show a little bump in that perfect figure. Her daddy’ll see to that.”

More head bobbling. I exchange a glance with Ollie; he arches his silken eyebrows at me. I have a question that I don’t wish to voice. I just hope someone thinks to ask it because I don’t feel comfortable injecting myself into their “private” conversation. While they seem to have forgotten we’re sitting in their midst, that would be a definite reminder, and probably an unwelcome one.

Thankfully, I’m not the only one with that same question.

“Now hold on here, Maybelle.” Attention swivels to the woman who first spilled the beans. She had a large black beehive and red lips that look troweled on. “What makes you think Emmy’s pregnant? Or that Bodean’s the daddy?”

“Well, Judy Parmenter told me Emmy was there just the other day. You know, for an appointment. With Doc Riddle.”

“And?”

“Well, you know what one plus one equals, don’t you?”

As the conversation degenerates into a rather detailed gynecological discussion, all relating to the process of childbirth, I tune it out, for the sake of my own sanity. Instead, I turn my attention to Ollie, focusing on him. Mindi is just blow-drying his hair back to its natural blond shade. I have to admit she did a good job. I can feel my blood pressure skyrocket, just looking at him. Too bad we’ve no time to act on it. At least not now.
Mindi finishes and begins to put my lover back to rights, carefully removing the sheet draped over him with the little bits of hair on it. Setting it aside, she brushes him off carefully, before turning him for my inspection. “Like what you see?”

Indeed I do.

I show my pleasure with large tips for both Mindi and Myrtle, pay our bill with the receptionist and make our departure, unnoticed by the general population. Before the door closes on us, though, I can hear Mindi’s giggle, and her exclamation of “Aren’t they so cute?” I have to smile.

Now on to other business. And for that I need a certain someone, unfortunately. A necessary evil, as the likelihood of me getting an appointment with an ob/gyn is absolute zero.

“What next?” Ollie asks.

“Summon her majesty, please.” I can’t explain how they communicate. It goes beyond mere telepathy, something inherently more symbiotic. I just know that it works. She arrives in mere moments, and I explain what needs to be done. She seems less than enthusiastic, favoring me with her usual sarcastic glare.

“You want me to go where and let some man do what to me?”

Before I can respond with something completely inappropriate, Ollie steps in. “You don’t have to go that far, Xy, just make an appointment and chat up the receptionist. If you can, find a way to look into Emmy’s file and see the reason for her last visit. You’re good at that.”

Flattery will get him everywhere. Suck up.

“A last name would help.” She directs her remark to me; she’d never criticize Ollie.

“Look in the appointment book. Duh.”

She arches her back and hisses at me. Well, not literally, as she isn’t a cat at the moment. Not a pretty sight.

“Stan, please, that’s not helping.”

I know it, but it feels good.

He calms her down and sends her on her way, after ascertaining she’s had no luck in finding the dearly departed. Not yet.

“Think maybe she’s buried?” Ollie voices my own fear. Of course, should that prove to be the case, it’s not an insurmountable obstacle.

I consider the question, then turn my gaze to his, looking deep into his eyes. “Do you?”

Ollie makes no immediate reply—not that I expected one—falling silent. I watch with awestruck admiration as the internal process begins. I could not put a name on it if I tried. A million shades of color flash through his beautiful eyes, too fast and too subtle for my mere human brain to register even a small part of them. The overall effect is stunning. His lips fall open slightly as he virtually ceases to breathe for the moment, his skin taking on a more lustrous pearlescent cast. I’m mesmerized and, at the same time, very much turned on.
Thirty seconds pass. Or maybe only twenty. I sure as shit can’t say which. Then his own shade of blue returns, and I hear the quick breath he exhales. It takes all my self-control not to yank him back to the hotel.
“No,” he murmurs. “Not buried. But there is water.”

Water? Now that’s interesting. And something to go on.

Now to locate the nearest body of water.

to be continued

Blue Ridge Fear Review

Besides having this review, today I'm guest blogging at Angel Martinez's blog, talking about Revelations. Go check it out! I'll reply to any comments when I come back to town!

Blue Ridge Fear
Author: Robin Weaver
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
American release date: October 22, 2012
Format/Genre/Length: Paperback/ Mystery Romance/318 pages
Overall Personal Rating: ★★★★

Sienna Sanders finds herself in an untenable position when her Uncle Jake jointly leaves her and her cousin Bethany the cabin on Blue Ridge, with the stipulation that they must both occupy it for a period of one year. And if either of them is absent more than the specified number of days, they both forfeit it. Unfortunately, Sienna has little choice—and less liking—in the matter, as her vindictive ex has made it impossible for her to stay in Atlanta. He’s also cost her a job and caused her to become financially strapped. Where else can she go? She and Bethany have never really been close. Can she tolerate a year with the selfish girl? Especially if there’s a serial killer loose in the area who has a penchant for blue-eyed blondes?

Synopsis:

While hiking together in the Gorge, Sienna has an accident and is forced to send the ditzy Bethany for help. As she awaits her cousin’s return, the most gorgeous man just happens along, her own personal knight in shining white armor. His name is Carson and he’s more than willing to help her, and Sienna certainly wants him to. But when Bethany returns, with two park rangers in tow, her savior disappears, much to Sienna’s dismay.

Anton and Lars are the rangers in question. It comes as no surprise that Lars, a big burly blond, is attracted to Bethany. Unfortunately, the attractive Anton is married. They manage to get her and her sprained ankle home, and Lars stays to flirt with Bethany. Later, Sienna runs into Carson again—her handsome stranger from the gorge—outside of her cabin. To her surprise she learns he’s staying in the cabin next door. He warns her how dangerous it is out there for women who look like her and to be careful.

The next morning, a disgruntled Sienna, unable to find nourishment in the cabin, decides to go out, taking up Carson on his invitation. She hobbles to his cabin, only to find that the key is not where he said it would be. Irritated, she suddenly feels watched, and looks around, only to discover a man in camouflage who may or may not be watching her. And little does she realize that Carson is indeed inside the cabin and privy to the whole scene, as she makes her painful way up to the small restaurant just a little ways down the road.

Between her volatile and vain cousin’s fluctuating love life, Carson’s incredible disappearing and reappearing routine, the mysterious man in camo who appears on a too regular basis and seems to be watching her, and the serial killer who seems to be stalking and killing women in the area, Sienna doesn’t know if she’s coming or going. Being injured hasn’t helped her disposition any, and neither has falling in love with Carson. But is he really who he says he is?

Commentary:

Blue Ridge Fear is a top notch thriller, one that had me enthralled from the first page and kept me guessing. While I consider myself pretty good at figuring out who done it, Robin Weaver had me second-guessing my own guesses, and changing my theories on a regular basis. I did guess who the villain was, but I was bound to–I suspected everyone at one point or another!

Her characters feel real, and they ‘re well-constructed, especially Sienna and Carson. I felt sorry for Sienna, stuck with her vain and selfish cousin, in the middle of nowhere. And Carson had me from the word hello!

Ms. Weaver has a very easy to read style, very fluent. It sucks you in and keeps you turning the pages in rapid succession to get to the bottom of the mystery. Warning: consume at your own risk. This writer is addictive! I’ve read her fantasy before, but if this is what her mysteries are like, bring them on, please!

I think Blue Ridge Fear will appeal to men and women alike. A great book for the mystery lover in your life. Or a gift for yourself. A great book to curl up with, along with your favorite drink, in your favorite armchair.

Just remember to look behind you every once in a while…
