Virtual Book Tour: Against the Wind

Please welcome author Regan Walker and her virtual book tour for her newest release, Against the Wind. Regan has answered my infamous Rick Reed questions! Regan will be awarding either Against the Wind or Lunchbox Romances that tie into the trilogy, The Holly and the Thistle and The Shamrock and the Rose (winner's choice) to a random commenter during the tour. The more often you comment, the better your chances of winning! Go here to see where the other stops are.

Regan Walker’s Interview for Full Moon Dreaming – June 10
1)      You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

The Apostle Paul and the Bible. My faith is very important to me and, other than Jesus (who I assume was not on the list of possible candidates), I can think of no greater teacher of the Bible than the one who wrote most of the New Testament. It’s one book that you never grow tired of, that always has a new thing to show you. We’d have a lot to talk about. Dinner conversations would be interesting.

 2)    Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?

Mame. And I would be Auntie Mame. I love adventure, travel, and interesting “characters.” My life has been
full of them. Whenever I give a party, those invited form an eclectic group, including artists, laborers, and professionals, people who would never know each other save for their connection to me. I have traveled to over forty countries and love going to new places, eating different foods and meeting new people. And along the way I’ve had adventures. Oh, yes, we must have adventures.

 3)      Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  prison, carousel, bench

Summer in Paris was lovely, but from where Monique sat on the bench in the Place Saint-Sulpice watching the carousel turning around, all she could think of was her lover in prison not far away, condemned to die. Could Philippe save him in time? She had come to ask for his help and he had given it. As the painted wooden chargers with their flaring eyes circled before her, Monique remembered the Prussian siege of the City the year before that had left good citizens dining on rats. Claude was not the only one who rebelled, willing to pay the price, but he was the man she loved.

[Just so you know, the historical record indicates that in the Place Saint-Sulpice, Philippe Campion, head of an amusement park dynasty, set up a carousel in 1871, following the siege of Paris where the Prussians crushed the French resistance. During the siege, the residents of Paris did, indeed, dine on rats.]

 4)      You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?

Since you asked, I'd favor a liaison with a handsome Scottish laird who stands tall and proud and wants to claim me as his bride. It’s the ultimate fantasy of those romance readers who love bodice rippers.

 5)      What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?

A romantic candlelit dinner with good conversation, followed by a good movie and some cuddling time on the sofa, leading to more intimate gestures, of course.

   6)     When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?

Generally, a character. In Racing With The Wind, it was Lady Mary Campbell; in Against the Wind, it was Sir Martin Powell; and in Wind Raven, it’s Martin’s brother, Captain Nicholas Powell. But that doesn’t mean I don’t also have a story in mind. But I’m not a plotter, sad to say. I’d like to be.

 7)      If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?

One of my secretaries once told me I reminded her of Dagny Taggart, the heroine in Ayn Rand’s Atlas
Shrugged. She worked with me every day, so of course, I had to read the book after that. And yes, I did see some of me in that character. She was independent and strong-willed, taking on a role that that would have been a man’s as the vice president in charge of operations, working to repair Taggart Transcontinental’s crumbling Rio Norte Line to service Colorado. It sounds like something I would do. I am quite the adventurer and I like a challenge. In some things, I can be fearless. While the movie is not my life story, it could have been. I think I’d like Meryl Streep (a bit younger version, perhaps) to play the role. She is elegant and feminine but with a steel backbone. Yes, I’d quite like her to play me.

 8)      Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?

I have no favorite horror villain as I don’t like horror. Gives me nightmares. Comes from having too vivid an imagination. The closest I’d come is the phantom in The Phantom of the Opera…the version where he is an alluring, if mad, figure who is in love with the heroine.

9)    Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?

Yes, Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington. Irish born and a brilliant strategist, he became a British
soldier of renown, essentially earning his dukedom. He was one of the leading military and political figures of the 19th century and a fine looking man, too. He also makes a cameo appearance in Paris in Racing With The Wind.

10)  Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

Yes, my own. That’s one I don’t plan to write.

AGAINST THE WIND

BLURB:

A night in London’s most exclusive bordello. Agent of the Crown Sir Martin Powell would not normally indulge, but the end of his time spying against Napoleon deserves a victory celebration. Yet, such pleasure will not come cheap. The auburn-haired courtesan he calls “Kitten” is in truth Katherine, Lady Egerton, a dowager baroness and the daughter of an earl as elusive as she is alluring. She flees a fate worse than death. But Martin has known darkness, too, and he alone can touch her heart—as she has touched his. To the English Midlands they will steal, into the rising winds of revolution.

EXCERPT:

They stepped into the ballroom just as the orchestra stuck up a waltz—and Martin froze. Standing not twenty feet before him was the object of his long search, shimmering in a silver gown that reflected the lights above, her only other adornments her auburn tresses and a string of pearls. Even here, amidst the ton’s finery, she stood out, once again an ethereal creature.

“Kitten,” he muttered under his breath. She stood with two debutantes and an older man and woman, her back to the dancing couples. She appeared unaware of the attention she was drawing from the men around her, but Martin saw the looks they were giving her and felt a wave of jealousy sweep over him.

“What is it, Martin? Why did you stop? What are you staring at?”

“She is here. Just there.”

Out of the corner of his eye Martin saw Ormond’s head turn toward Kit. At the same time, Kit turned her face to the side and it became a mask of horror. Whatever she saw had shaken her badly.

A man. She was looking at a man.

“Who is that?” Martin said, gesturing for Ormond.

“That,” Ormond informed him, “is the man you have been asking about. The Earl of Rutledge.”

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

As a child, Regan Walker loved to write stories, particularly about adventure-loving girls, but by the time she got to college more serious pursuits took priority. One of her professors thought her suited to the profession of law, and Regan realized it would be better to be a hammer than a nail. Years of serving clients in private practice and several stints in high levels of government gave her a love of international travel and a feel for the demands of the “Crown” on its subjects. Hence her romance novels often involve a demanding Prince Regent who thinks of his subjects as his private talent pool.

Regan lives in San Diego with her golden retriever, Link, whom she says inspires her every day to relax and smell the roses.

Sexy Snippets #6: When Will I See You Again

Happy Sunday, and happy Sexy Snippets! Today I'm going to post from a book I've already subbed and that I'm waiting to hear about, When Will I See You Again.  I hope you enjoy it! I can't offer you a cover, naturally, but I can share my inspiration for Raoul. Don't forget to check out the others who are offering Sexy Snippets, you'll find them here.

Today's snippet is about Raoul and Alexx's first kiss. Enjoy!  Oh, and enjoy Raoul!

Raoul placed a hand on either side of Alexx’s face and drew him close, closer, closest, until their lips were mere micrometers apart. Alexx had never wanted anyone so badly in his entire life, and he knew he’d do anything to have him.

The first touch of their lips was as gentle and fleeting as the touch of a butterfly’s wings; the next just a little longer, a little firmer, the one after that just a little bit more.  Until, at last, they crushed their lips together in a most passionate embrace. When they came up for air, Alexx staggered slightly, his head and body both reeling. He looked into Raoul’s eyes. For just a moment, he thought he saw something—something familiar, something wonderful.

Hope you enjoyed this snippet! I'll keep you posted on what's happening with the book!

Until next time, take care!

My Sexy Saturday #1

My apologies for not posting last week as I'd intended, but Mother Nature had other ideas, and I was without power the whole weekend. But all's well that ends well, as the saying go. Also, better late than never lol

This week, my selection comes from a recent release from M.A. Church and myself, Be My Alien, the first book in our Moonlit Skies series. I hope you enjoy it! It's available from Dreamspinner Press

Once they arrived at Reed’s apartment, Reed paid the fare and walked Taz to the elevators. They stepped inside and Reed pressed the button for his floor. Seconds later, Reed found himself squeezed rather cozily into one corner, so close that Reed forgot how to breathe. Just as the doors were about to close, Mrs. Porter, who lived one floor under Reed, pushed her cane into the opening, halting it long enough for her to enter the car. She gave the two young men and the lack of space between them a pointed look. Reed resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Old busybody. The ride up was blessedly silent; finally they reached her floor. She doddered out with excruciatingly slow steps, turned to face them, and muttered, “Get a room,” before the doors slid closed, to Reed’s great relief. Oh, he planned to do just that.
Taz turned to Reed, his fingers seeming to take on a life of their own. “Now?”
“Almost.” Reed took a deep breath and smiled at the playful pout that graced Taz’s face. “Be patient.”
The elevator opened, and they walked to Reed’s apartment; he already had his key in his hand, almost dropping it when he went to insert it. Recovering from his fumble, he opened the door, moved out of the way for Taz to enter, and closed it behind them. Reed’s hand landed on Taz’s shoulders. He swung him around and backed him against the front door.
Reed crowded into Taz, caging Taz in his arms. “Now.”

Now . Just the word Taz had been waiting for. Despite his playful demeanor and lack of inhibition, Taz was not one to do any serious initiating, although he was also not shy about making his desires known either. Reed’s reply was as good as a command in Taz’s book. He pressed against the cute blond, his entire body vibrating with desire, and began to lick his languid way up the side of Reed’s neck.
“Oh God, Taz.” Reed buried one of his hands in all that sexy hair, clearly urging Taz closer.

Maybe next week, I'll give you a taste of the second book. Enjoy your weekend! And don't forget to check out the rest of the Sexy Saturday offerings - you can find them here.

Guest Blogger M.A. Church

Yes, she's back, by popular demand! My good friend and co-author, M.A. Church has a new release with
eXtasy Books, and she's going to tell us about it! It's called The Yellow Rope, and I'm here to tell you it's a really good story, and a hot read. I loved both the characters, and the yellow rope... well, let's let M.A. do the talking, while I get her a drink? Be right back!

The Yellow Rope
What are the three words that can get the heart thumping, send blood pressure though the roof, and make the very breath in your chest freeze? That can make a grown person yell with unabashed joy, have their hands shake with excitement, and bring tears to their eyes in relief? What are three little words that are worth their weight in gold?
That’s right… a long weekend.

* * * *
Hey everyone! *laugh* Those three little words are some of the most important in our vocabulary, aren’t they? I no longer work, but when I did… I lived for three-day weekends. Yes, yes, I had summers off because I taught, but those weekends made the other ten months somewhat bearable.

This story is about life getting in the way of a relationship and two men who refuse to continue to let that happen. It’s about reconnecting and the joy of finding themselves once again and meeting their needs. And yes, there is humor, lol.

Sometimes, a three-day weekend can be a life savior, lol.
Release date: June 1st
Blurb:
A cranky submissive...

Luke Walker is tired. He spends long hours between his job as a teacher assistant at an elementary school and helping out his family at their restaurant. Coupled with the fact that his degree is going to waste, he’s discouraged and fatigued by too much work and endless southern heat, and not enough time spent with his live-in partner.

An understanding Dom...

Gage Holt has been on both sides of the fence. He believes that in order to be a good Dom, one has to understand being a sub. Unfortunately, he’s had some bad experiences in pursuit of that knowledge, and suffered a great deal. But that’s in the past now.

A long weekend...

Three little days... Gage is determined to see that his man gets what he needs in every way he can give it to him. Anything to remove the dark circles from beneath his beautiful eyes. For the next seventy-two hours, he’s going to pamper his boy—in his way. He’ll fight a bull that hates him, battle with a crusty old woman at a gift shop who snubs him, and deal with the never-ending lack of money just to bring the shine back to Luke’s eyes.

Luke will relax and have some fun, even if Gage has to tie him to whatever flat surface happens to be handy.

Excerpt:
“Hey.” Luke walked into the kitchen, came up behind Gage, and hugged him.

“Hey babe, glad you’re home.” Gage turned in the arms that held him and returned the hug.

“So am I. It was a really, really long day.” Luke stepped back and loosened his tie. It’d been strangling him for the better part of the day. “Been in meetings for most of the morning, and oh joy, since this was a county wide in-service, we had to dress.”

“I know. I enjoyed listening to you bitch about that very thing this morning while I was trying to get dressed.” Gage tapped the end of Luke’s nose. “But you do look good in a suit. And I so enjoy taking it off you.”

Luke laughed, shaking his head. “You always say that, but I’d rather be in jeans. You like taking those off, too.

“You bet.”

“Perv.”

“You know it.” Gage winked as he turned back to the stove to test the spaghetti sauce. “Was it bad?”

Luke leaned against the counter. “Well, we did get an hour lunch after we returned from the Civic Center. That was the only place big enough for the district. They made us ride a damn school bus over and back. Right after that, we got an hour to work in our room. Then the damn meetings started in the cafeteria. I hate those the worst. I swear my ass is numb from those seats, but we’re finally done with in-service for this month.”

“Poor baby.” Gage held the spoon up to let Luke taste the sauce. “Dinner’s almost ready. You hungry?”

Luke licked the spoon. “Needs a bit more salt.” He rolled his head, trying to pop his neck. His shoulders were tied in knots. “Yeah, I am hungry, but let me unwind for a few first. I’m still too much in school mode to eat right now.”

“Well, then, why don’t you go change clothes?” Gage kissed Luke’s cheek. “Go get comfortable while I finish this. No rush. We’re just going to enjoy ourselves and this weekend.”

“Think I will. Be back in a minute.” Slightly surprised and a little miffed, Luke climbed the stairs. Usually Gage attacked him when he wore a suit. As soon as Gage got it off him, he’d find himself over whatever flat surface was closest.

With a shrug, and with fatigue dragging at him, he pulled off his suit jacket as he entered their bedroom. Throwing it over the treadmill, he unbuttoned his shirt. This was the first night he’d managed to get home on time. With a grateful sigh, he untucked the shirt. He had a long weekend coming, and all he wanted to do was rest and play catch-up with his partner. From what Gage had said, they were on the same page. All he wanted to do was relax, and enjoy.

He couldn’t remember the last time they’d made love. He wasn’t talking about the quick fucks they had lately. Hell, both of them had been too tired to do much else. Luke cringed. Okay, he’d been too tired or too busy. He missed Gage’s touch on his body, the bite of ropes on his wrist, the pinch of a gag.

His body ached with need for what his lover could give him. Luke slipped off his dress shoes and pants. As he undressed, he noticed the pair of night pants on the end of the bed and a folded piece of paper on top.

“Hmm, what’s this?” he mumbled to himself.

As Luke read the note, his body came alive. It looked like his dry spell was over. It also   explained why Gage hadn’t thrown him down on the kitchen table and ripped the suit off him. He had other plans, apparently. Following the instructions, he stripped out of his underwear, slid the cock ring on his awakening shaft, and pulled the night pants up. The instructions were very clear—that was the only clothing he was to wear.

Author bio:
M.A. Church

M.A. Church lives in the southern United States and spent many years in the elementary education sector. She is married to her high school sweetheart and they have two children. Her hobbies are gardening, walking, attending flea markets, watching professional football, racing, and spending time with her family on the lake.

But her most beloved hobby is reading. From an early age, she can remember hunting for books at the library. Later nonhuman and science fiction genres captured her attention and drew her into the worlds the authors had created. But always at the back of her mind was the thought that one day, when the kids were older and she had more time, she would write a book.

By sheer chance she stumbled across a gay male romance story on the web and was hooked. A new world opened up and she fell in love. Thus the journey started. When not writing or researching, she enjoys reading the latest erotic and mainstream romance novels.

Wednesday Briefs: No Way Out #7

This week is flying, but it's happier, now that we have power once again! It was a long weekend, trust me, and I don't mean that in a good way lol So now it's time for some flash fiction to celebrate Hump Day with! This week's prompts were: "You can't always get what you want..." or use a birthday cake or have a scene in a fast food restaurant or use: goat, hanger, whisper or "I thought that you loved me until you said..." or "I spy with my little eye..." or use socks in a fun way or introduce a new character who is a model.

Last week, as you'll recall, Wyatt brought Shy ice cream, only to be told to go away! What next? The answer lies in this week's No Way Out. Don't forget to see what the other Briefers are up to. Their links follow my tale. Enjoy!

No Way Out #7

Of all the reactions Wyatt had anticipated on his short trek across the street, hearing Shy tell him to go away wasn’t one of them. Shy looked so... afraid... but why? Was Randy’s hold on him so tight he feared even talking to another person? Or was it Wyatt in particular?

Wyatt was confused. Especially when he saw the furtive look Shy gave to the ice creams in his hands which, almost forgotten, were dripping onto the front stoop.

He was reminded of a game he’d played as a kid, with some of his friends, the object of which was to figure out what someone was looking at. “I spy with my little eye,” the familiar chant went, followed by a guess of some sort. Right now, Wyatt thought he spied naked fear in Shylor’s eyes. And he didn’t like it. Not one little bit.

Wyatt was too startled to answer immediately, and Shy made no move to leave, so they remained frozen in an odd tableau, their eyes locked upon one another, as if each was mesmerized by the other.  Wyatt could fairly feel the indecision that pulsed between them. Surely he wasn’t mistaken in thinking that Shy wanted to talk to him as badly as he wanted to talk to Shy? If he didn’t, wouldn’t he have closed the door by now?

At least, that’s what his intuition told him, although he was woefully ignorant of how to handle a situation like this, having never found himself in one before. What in the world could make someone look so scared? Wyatt wasn’t sure he wanted to know. And yet he wanted to help Shy in any way he could. Clear his beautiful blue eyes, make him smile... free him from whatever held him in such a tight grip of panic.

“It’s just ice cream. I thought you might like to share some with me. You like ice cream, don’t you?” Wyatt heard himself babble. He wanted to get Shy to relax, but it didn’t look like that was happening any time soon.

Um, think, think... do something.

He blindly thrust one of the cones forward. Did Shy’s hand twitch, just for a moment? Did he start to reach for it and then held himself back?

But why? Why in the name of all that was holy was he so damn afraid? And of what?

At the sound of an engine, Wyatt thought Shy was going to faint. His eyes grew bigger and he looked about as bloodless as a vampire on a day pass. Wyatt turned toward the street. It was just the mail truck, making its appointed rounds, backfiring. Nothing there to be alarmed about. But as he pivoted back to tell Shylor so, the door slammed shut, leaving a stunned Wyatt gaping at it.
* * * *
Shy leaned against the door, his heart beating erratically, his hands clenched into fists. Despite his best efforts, he felt warm tears prickle in his eyes. No, dammit, no. It was better this way. What if... what if that had been Randy? The thought didn’t bear completion. Shy had gotten lucky, no sense in tempting fate. No matter what his traitorous body was telling him to do. To open the door. To invite Wyatt in. To take the ice cream and feast on it. Oh damn, when was the last time he had eaten ice cream? He no longer remembered. Months, at least. A punishment that he no longer recalled the crime he’d committed. And it didn’t matter anyway.

It wasn’t just the ice cream that was so dangerous, it was the way Shy found himself reacting to Wyatt. He’d never had this happen before, and he found himself shaken to the core with the strong desire that was threatening to topple his very existence. He didn’t even understand why he wanted Wyatt so badly, he just did. Maybe because he seemed kind. And kindness was definitely lacking in Shy’s diet.

Wyatt seemed sweet, and thoughtful, and he was good looking.

The tears were closer to spilling now. Shy began to panic. If he gave in to this stupid emo shit, his eyes would show it, and Randy would want to know why, and Shy wasn’t a good enough liar to pull that off.
He was startled from his reverie, effectively halting his tears, by the reverberation of the door through his body. It took Shy a few seconds to realize Wyatt was knocking, followed by the sound of the doorbell as it echoed throughout the house.

Shy was torn. He could stand there and do nothing, wait for Wyatt to get the message and leave. He could run to his room, hide his head beneath the pillows and pretend he didn’t hear. But what if Wyatt didn’t leave? What if he stood there until Randy came home? Shy’s stomach knotted at the very thought.

He forced himself to calm down, digging his nails into the palms to distract himself, so hard that small red crescents formed. He had to do this. He had to discourage Wyatt from ever coming over here, even if it turned out to be the hardest thing he’d ever done. And he’d done a lot of hard things in his short life.

But it was a matter of self-preservation. Even more, he didn’t want Wyatt to be hurt, and there was no doubt in Shy’s mind that Randy would hurt him.

He slowly opened the door, catching Wyatt in mid-knock, startling the other man.

“You can’t be here,” he whispered in as fierce a voice as he could muster. “He can’t see you.”

He watched Wyatt as he processed the words. Why didn’t the fool leave, while he still could. He seemed ready to go, so go...

“Meet me somewhere,” came the unbelievable words. “Tomorrow morning. Meet me somewhere else. Anywhere.”

Shy felt bile rise in his throat. He swallowed quickly.

I can’t... I can’t.... I....

“Where?” he almost sighed.

to be continued

Don't forget to visit the other Wednesday Briefers and enjoy their offerings!

Virtual Book Tour: The Partisan's Wife

First, let me apologize for  not having posted since Friday, but we lost our power Friday night and only got it back today. I'm sorry for the two groups I was supposed to post for this weekend that I didn't make it, and also to my guest, author Kathy Fischer-Brown, who has graciously allowed me to post today instead. Also, I've not forgotten my blog hops, I'll announce the winners later this week. Kathy has answered my infamous Rick Reed questions and is going to talk about her new release, The Partisan's Wife.  She will be awarding a $20 Amazon GC to a random commenter during her tour. See the Rafflecopter at the end of the post? The more you comment, the better chance you have. For more chances to comment, go here.

The Questions
1)      You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

First of all, I’d be totally miserable regardless of whom I choose to be with and with only one item to take
along. I’d probably end up doing myself in. But if this scenario is only for a short duration, I could probably make do with a notebook (the spiral –bound kind). If I can’t have a pencil or pen, I’d have to make one (don’t ask how), but first I’d need to fashion some sort of cutting/scraping tool) and then find some berries to squeeze and use for ink. (I’m too squeamish to use my own blood). As for the person I’d have with me… He/she would have to be someone who can build us a shelter, provide entertainment, conversation, inspiration, and back rubs, as well as go fishing, clamming, climbing the palm trees (there are palm trees, I hope) to gather coconuts. This person could very well be my husband, but I don’t want him climbing anything. Last time he tried to prune a tree, he fell off the ladder and ended up in the hospital. Can’t have us both too badly injured before help arrives.

2)      Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?

Without question. “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” I’m Snoopy.

   3)    Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  ceiling, baffling, thanks

He clung like a fly to the high ceiling above the chandeliers, baffling the dinner guests, who gaped up in wonder, vichyssoise dribbling down their chins. Thanks to the specially made adhesive, they were blind to his ploy. He had them now.

  4)    You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?

To be honest, I can’t think of a soul. I’m getting too old with too many missing parts to pull it off with any success.

5)      What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?

Candlelight dinner at a great restaurant with a string quartet in the background. Then home for a movie and a
bowl of popcorn before my hubby falls asleep.

6)      When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?

Usually a little of both. When I begin, I have a vague idea of what it’s about and who the characters are. As they develop and begin speaking to me, the characters invariably influence where the story goes. I usually don’t get a good grip on the characters until they are happy with their names … which is another subject entirely.

7)      Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?

I’m not a fan of the genre, so I’m sorry to say I have nothing to base an answer on.

8)      Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?

I wouldn’t call it a crush, but I’ve always had a deep fascination with Benedict Arnold. For a guy whose name has become synonymous with treason, he was a complex and interesting man, whose entire life filters down to his one dastardly deed. Prior to betraying his country, he was a hero of the American Revolution and was much admired and respected by the men who served under him and by his fellow officers. He was also a trusted friend of George Washington, so much that he was given the command of West Point. As a Connecticut resident, I often wonder how different the little corner of our state that was his birthplace would have been. Driving through New London and Norwich on I-95, I can’t help imagining the Benedict Arnold Rest Stop, complete with a souvenir shop, Subway, and McDonalds.

9)      If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?

My life is too boring for the movie-going public. I’d much rather see my books made into movies or mini-series. But if Hollywood called, I wouldn’t refuse. As to who would play me, I’d like it to be multiple actors and actresses…kind of like in the Bob Dylan “I’m Not There.”

10)   Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

The world has received stories and books much riskier and more outré than anything I’d ever dream up, so I’d have to say no. But I won’t let that keep me from writing.

Thanks so much for hosting me today.

THE PARTISAN’S WIFE

BLURB:

Faced with an impossible choice, Anne Marlowe is torn between her husband’s love and the hope of her father’s forgiveness. The Partisan’s Wife follows Anne and Peter through the war torn landscape of Revolutionary War America, from the Battle of Saratoga to British-occupied New York and Philadelphia, and beyond.

EXCERPT:

Tony eyed her closely and whispered. “What if I were to give you my word of honor that I will not force you to compromise your wedding vows?”

“Do I have another choice?”

He smiled and shrugged. “You could go back inside.” By the downward cast of her eyes, her resolve faltered. “Either those red coated brutes will eat you alive, or Gerda will have your head on a platter.” He looked back anxiously at the light in the window. “Of course, you could stay here and freeze to death…. It’s up to you. I have no desire to tarry.”

“You were cheating, weren’t you?”

“Hardly the time to be self-righteous.”

“I need to know.”

“Are you coming or not?”

“I thought it was on my account that you….” She hesitated.

“You would have liked that, wouldn’t you, princess?” He raised his brow. “A sorry display of chivalry! I merely forgot myself.” He limped past her through the alley. “I’m going. I’ve neither the time nor the stomach for this insanity.”

“Wait!” She started after him, then stopped when he turned. “I’m sorry you were hurt. But I….”

“Don’t waste your pity, angel, unless you’re prepared to give me some real solace.” He smiled derisively, then, seeing her unmoved by his crude proposal, quickly changed his tone. “I’m sorry, as well. I’m in bad sorts, and it’s dammed cold, and I’m eager to put this hell hole behind me.”

She shivered violently. “Where are we to go?”

He regarded her with irritation, then spoke quickly, accenting his words with a dramatic flourish of his hand. “I am going to bed.” She winced. “You may come or you may stay. You’re free to do as you please. It’s well past curfew. If you had an ounce of sense, you’d do well not to stand there, shivering like an idiot, dressed only in your scruples.” He tore off his coat. “Here…put this on. Your state of holy wedlock won’t keep you warm on this night.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

As a child, Kathy wanted to be a writer when she grew up. She also wanted to act. After receiving an MFA in Acting and playing the part of a starving young artist in New York, she taught theater classes at a small college in the Mid-West before returning home to the East Coast where, over the years, she and her husband raised two kids and an assortment of dogs. During stints in advertising, children’s media publishing, and education reform in the former Soviet Union, she wrote whenever she could. Her love of early American history has its roots in family vacations up and down the East Coast, visiting old forts and battlefields and places such as Williamsburg, Mystic Sea Port, and Sturbridge Village. At the same time, she daydreamed in history classes, imagining the everyday people behind all the dates and conflicts and how they lived.

Claiming her best ideas are born of dreams, Kathy has written a number of stories over the years. Her first published novel, Winter Fire, a 1998 Golden Heart finalist in historical romance, was reissued in 2010 by Books We Love, Ltd.

When not writing, she enjoys reading, cooking, photography, playing “ball” with the dogs, and rooting on her favorite sports teams.
