Q: Today’s is the US’ Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.
That's a tough one, cause there are several that come to mind. For example, Desiree, which takes place before, during, and after the French Revolution. War and Peace. Seven Days in May (an attempted overthrow, luckily it failed, but it's also a great movie, with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster).
But I would have to say my all time favorite book with a war in it would have to be the one I've read seventeen times - Gone With The Wind. It takes place during the Civil War, of course, and I have yet to get tired of it.
Gone with the Wind is a great story. I've never been able to finish War and Peace...but maybe I'll force myself to this year. The length is intimidating.

War and Peace is about the same length as Gone With The Wind - roughly 1000 pages lol It just feels longer!
DeleteI really want to read War in Peace but it went on my TTT list this past week as one of my top most intimidating books. I probably won't try to pick it up this year, but I'm thinking maybe next year. :D Great picks!
ReplyDeleteMy FFs are HERE and HERE. Happy Friday!
It took me more than one try, I admit, and most of the war stuff went over my head, but I loved the rest, and the characters were great!
DeleteLove Gone With the Wind. War and Peace is just daunting...

I've never read Gone with the Wind, but it is on my TBR list. I'm a bit intimidated by it. Anyway, great choice!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read it, but it's on my TBR. Like Quinn above, I'm a little intimidated by it, too. Really great choice! :)

Much as I love Clark Gable, I find the movie pales beside the book, and I get nitpicky about the stuff they changed lol Thanks for stopping by!
