Amanda Devereaux is nothing like the rest of her crazy
family. She’s an accountant, and a very ordinary person, even to her choice of
boyfriends. One of eight sisters, each one is farther out than the next,
including her twin, Tabitha, who spends her nights hunting vampires and
dressing like a lunatic Goth. But nothing out of the ordinary ever happens to
Amanda, which is how she likes it…
… until she wakes up to find herself handcuffed to a
devastatingly handsome man. And she’s suddenly forced to redefine normal.
Kyrian of Thrace is a Dark Hunter, one of those whose wish
for vengeance was answered by the goddess Artemis in death, and who now serve
her at the cost of their immortal souls. Kyrian was once a proud prince whose
passion for a woman was his undoing. Betrayed by her, he lives a solitary
existence, and knows he will never trust a woman ever again in his lifetime.
The trouble is, he’s going to live for eternity.
And don’t ever make the mistake of calling him a vampire.
Kyrian is instantly attracted to Amanda, despite the
circumstances of their meeting. But he knows there can be nothing between them,
knows no woman can truly love him. And yet the more he comes to know her, the
more he desires her, heart and soul.
Amanda has been burned before, but something about the man
she knows as Hunter draws her in, despite her family’s warnings.
The problem is there’s a big bad Daimon after Kyrian, and he
seems to be exhibiting powers no Daimon should have. Will he destroy whatever
chance of happiness Amanda and Kyrian might have?
I thought when I read Fantasy Lover that no man could be as
hot as Julian Alexander. I was wrong. Kyrian of Thrace is just that.
Technically the first book of the Dark Hunter series (I tend to count Fantasy
Lover as the first, but that’s a minor point), Night Pleasures is even hotter
than Fantasy Lover because Amanda and Kyrian don’t have to contend with that
whole better not have sex thing. Their sex scenes are very hot and steamy and
passionate.
In this book, we learn about the Dark Hunters, how they came
to be, what they’re about, what kinds there are, as well as the Daimons and the
Appollites. It’s all great background for the series that is to come. Also, we
meet the first Dark Hunter, Acheron Parthenopaeus, who is six foot eight and
changes his hair color constantly. But Ash has secrets of his own, secrets that
he keeps in order to keep his Dark Hunters safe. And if they should ever desire
to regain their mortal souls, well, he’s the man to help with that.
Sherrilyn Kenyon writes very well, I love her descriptions
of her characters which reach beyond the merely physical to the emotional. You
will love these people, and feel for them. Even the villains are not one
dimensional and have their own stories to tell.
I highly recommend this book if you like the Black Dagger
Brotherhood or Anita Blake. I can’t wait to read the next book.
