EXCERPT:

Poem no. 7: Scary, Isn’t It?

I often think about how scary it is;
one minute you’re fine and the next
you’re yearning for a girl you’ve only just met. And the mere thought of her is enough to give you violent butterflies.

The more you get to know her
the more she becomes everything you think about.

The more you know her the funnier and prettier she becomes until the butterflies aren’t
only reserved for when she’s near;
they’re there forevermore.

I often think about how scary it is;
How is it that a singular person has that much of an effect on you?

It’s scary because you know that you’re giving her the power to break your heart if she so chooses.

Poetry Corner - 9-18-12

Good afternoon! I've been a bit remiss here lately, keeping busy with various things, and today I'm working on tomorrow's flash and editing a really cool tween book, so I think I'll post one of my poems. One of my favorites, in fact. And let's have some fun with this, shall we?  See if  you can figure out who was the influence for this poem? And no, you can't just say a vampire. I'm looking for a specific person's name. A living, breathing person.  I'll put all the correct answers into a drawing for a copy of any book from my back list. Good luck! Don't forget to include your email address, or it won't work! I'll select a winner at the end of the week!

Romeo of the Night
          by Julie Lynn Hayes

Gentle Romeo of the night,
Seduce me with your power.
Here beneath the moon's soft light
Has come our finest hour.
Teach me of your vampire ways,
Of joys not of this earth.
Share with me your vampire days,
That lead to night's rebirth.
Bring me close into your heart,
Baptize me in the flow;
With your sweet blood, make me a part
Of all you feel and know.
My fingers revel in the feel
Of your soft auburn hair,
Cascading o'er me as I kneel
Before you as if in prayer.
Your tender lips upon my throat
Which kiss, then gently bite.
On an ecstatic wave I float
And moan in wild delight.
Take me, take me, take me now;
Let this be our bridal bower.
Moon, with the power of love us endow,
Consummated this midnight hour.
Gentle Romeo of the night,
How warm  you feel within me.
Committed now to our eternal night,
I'll always have you with me.

Poetry and me...

Once upon a time, I used to write poetry, and I'd mail it off to different magazines. And sometimes it would get published. This was a very long time ago, before computers, before e-magazines, and definitely before it became easier to be published. There was no money involved, just a copy or two of the magazine you were published in. I generally don't write poetry any more, preferring prose. But I thought I'd share some of my poems with you at odd times, like today.  I had vampire poems and non-vampire poems (yes, I'm a sucker for a bloodsucker lol)  This first one I'm going to share with you is entitled Amid the Ruin. Enjoy!

Amid the Ruin
                by Julie Lynn Hayes © 1996

Amid the ruin of silken sheets,
Rumpled in the rampage of a lovers'
Tug of war,
Beneath the blood-smeared bedclothes,
Tangled in the tantrums of a
Passion play,
She lies in saintly beauty,
Mona Lisa-smile upon stained lips,
Lips which wear the color of her lover's blood.
He loved her well,
Then freed her soul from Hell
To face Eternity, away from nighttime joys
And carnal pleasures reserved
For those who cannot bear the light of day.
A single rose lies upon her breast
Above a simple wooden stake,
Her instrument of release,
As love and peace rule the night supreme
Amid the ruin of silken sheets.
