Virtual Book Tour: Have a Little Faith in Me

The Questions
1)      You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?
Wow.  Well, the one item should be a flint or a knife or something, I suppose, but of course it would be a book instead.  I’d rather die of starvation than die of boredom, I guess!  It would have to be a huge one that I could read over and over, so that would be the time to finally read “Ulysses” or “Infinite Jest” – I’d have all the time in the world to do the deep thinkin’ required to read and reread it.  (Until I died of starvation, of course.)
The one person I’d want to go into exile with?  Okay, I gotta pick a man (there will be no Adam and Eve stuff on this island).  A smart, sexy man who’d be the best company on every level.  I’d have to pick one of my characters, honestly – Sam Bradley from the Sam and Derek series is my dream dude.  He’s got it all.  And, he’s got military SERE (Survive Evade Resist Escape) training, so we might even live!

2)      Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?
I know I’m gonna lose my gay card for this, but I’m not a big fan of musicals.  My favorite one is “Silence! The Musical,” a parody of “Silence of the Lambs,” and there’s probably not anyone in there other than Clarice whom I’d want to identify with…
3)      Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scene using them:  fin, bullfight, false teeth
“Who would win in a bullfight, a shark or a bull?”
“Are you kidding?  The bull would totally gore the shark.”
“The shark has giant teeth, though.  It would chomp on the bull.”
“How?  How’s it gonna get around the bullring, walk on its fins?”
“You underestimate the awesome power of shark teeth.”
“You’re obsessed with teeth, ever since you got your false teeth.”
“No need to get personal!”

4)      You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?
Wow.  Well, I’m a huge fan of Dorothy Dunnett’s historical novels.  I would pick Francis Lymond, the dashing, brilliant, mercurial, troubled hero in her “Lymond Chronicles.”  He makes my panties wet.
5)      What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?
Well, my significant others right now are my cats, I’m embarrassed to say.  And they’re not cuddlers, either.  So that’s a fine romance, huh?
6)      When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?
I start with a concept, usually around a trend like “Rock Star” or “football player” or whatever.  Then the characters start to form.  I can’t write a plot until I have some idea who the characters are, what they would do in a situation.  And as I write, the plot always changes, to accommodate who the characters are becoming as I write them.
7)      If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?
George Clooney!  Just because I’d like to see him living out my fantasies.
8)      Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?
Dr. Hannibal Lecter, now and forever.  He’s so smart, so charming, so evil.  The scariest villain is the one who can pass for normal in polite society.
9)      Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?
Yeah, he’s the guy in the Sanders Portrait, allegedly of William Shakespeare (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanders_portrait).  He’s got a handsome face, but it’s mostly the look on it – he looks so smart, so amused by humanity, but not cynical or angry about the foibles that amuse him.  If it’s not Shakespeare, I’d love to know who it is.  Whoever it is, he’s my historical crush.
10)   Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?
No, I think the closest I got to that feeling was with “A Little Too Broken.”  I was rolling my eyes at the whole “broken” trope in New Adult romance, they’re always young and beautiful and at the end they fix each other and they’re not broken anymore, la la la.  One day this image popped into my mind of two people who were so “broken” they couldn’t be “fixed,” an HIV+ guy and a soldier who’d lost his legs in Afghanistan.  And I just ran away from that idea as hard and as fast as I could… It was such a risky idea, there was so very much that could go wrong in the execution.  I thought, I could get burned at the stake for this if I fuck it up.  But it turned out okay… When I hear from people who work with veterans or amputees or people with PTSD and they say, yeah, you got it right, I just burst into tears.

When Rocky met Dex, it was hate at first sight. Country superstar Dex Dexter represented everything that budding rock star Rocky McCoy had left behind him in the Deep South – the religion, the homophobia, the hypocrisy, the lies. And Rocky represented everything that Dex had denied, had turned away from, had refused…

When Rocky met Dex, it was love at first touch. Double booked in the same slot on the main stage at CrossFest, they fought for the microphone like two dogs fighting over a bone. And when their hands met…

Rocky has had enough. “No more falling for straight guys. No way. No matter how hot. Especially if the ‘straight guy’ looks to me like a major closet case.”

Dex has had enough. “No way. I can’t be gay. I can’t lose my family, my friends, my career. I can’t.”

What they’ve had enough of doesn’t matter. It’s what they’ve never had enough of that will bring them together…

Categories: Contemporary, Erotica, Fiction, Gay Fiction, Humor, M/M Romance

Excerpt:
Rocky picked up the Gibson Hummingbird.  Chris Cornell played one of these.  What more did he need to know?
He knew exactly what he wanted to play.  How many times had he played this song, how many times had he stretched his voice, discovering his own vocal range.  The notes of “Like a Stone” flowed from his fingers in a waterfall, and the words were a flock of birds banking wildly in front of the cascade, flirting with disaster.
He came to the end, the roaring finish, his eyes closed as he sang the epic wave of notes in the last word of the song, “alone.”
He’d only ever played the song when he was alone with Korey, who was no cheerleader.  Korey would nod, say, “Good job.”  And then tell him where he missed something.
When he was done, he opened his eyes.  His new friends were speechless.  “Was it okay?” he asked doubtfully.
“Holy fucking great mother of God,” Rick gasped.  “Who the fuck are you?  Where did you come from?”
Rocky smiled.  “Under a rock.  I’ve been living under a rock.”

Blurb:
A bratty angel…

First Patrick is accosted by a hellhound with a yen for fries and ketchup. Then he encounters a beautiful, but bratty angel who doesn’t seem to understand the concept of ‘no’… or personal space. Not to mention he demands Patrick pleasure him, which Patrick refuses to do. So why does Patrick feel a connection to this unruly seraphim? And why can’t he forget him?

Two weeks later, the brat is back, making more demands. But Patrick makes it clear he doesn’t do demands. That should be the end of it, right? Or not… Maybe there’s more to this bratty angel than meets the eye. If Patrick has the patience to get past his bratty ways.

Excerpt:
Patrick rounded the corner fast, almost too fast. He barely kept his balance, groaning when his left knee twisted, reminding him that his ability to outrun anyone or anything had taken a turn for the worse. If that damn thing he'd only snatched a brief glimpse of got him, he'd be mauled and killed.

The huge, nightmarish thing panted as it chased after him, gusts of his surprisingly clean-smelling breath wafting to him. As Patrick raced through the deserted streets—because who the hell took a shortcut at this time of the night—he searched for a hiding spot. A fire ladder would work too, or whatever. Anything really, so he could put a safe distance between himself and the grotesque creature. He could have avoided all of this but, damn him, he'd indulged in his human body's desire for junk food. Next time he was going to order his food in—if he lived long enough.

Patrick's lungs burned, and his leg muscles screamed bloody murder at him. Fuck the universe for rendering him incapable of flying. He’d been trapped in this human body for twenty-three years already, and no one would ever think he'd once been strong and—best not to go there. Nothing good ever came of his memories.

Patrick stumbled, and a hot gust of air tickled his neck. He plunged face forward to the ground, all air rushing out in one short pained gasp. Reflexively he put his hands behind his head to protect his vulnerable neck.

The freaking thing growled and yanked at the bag containing Patrick's junk food. Patrick yelped when the bag tore open, spilling its contents all over.

Curled up on the ground, Patrick peeked over his shoulder when a chuckle drew his attention. Someone hunkered down next to him before gentle fingers pried the last string of the bag from his hand. Patrick gritted his teeth, wishing he was in possession of his power instead of lying there, almost whimpering in fear.

“Don't worry, he's not malicious. He just wants your fries,” a soft, melodious voice informed him. The fries-loving beast growled, sending goose bumps up Patrick's spine. The voice added, “Right. He wants your fries and your ketchup. You see, the ketchup is majorly important.”

The person who'd spoken to him withdrew, and the creature's paws clicked on the ground as it followed the voice. Whoever it was rustled the wraps of his food and talked soothingly to the yipping beast. Carefully and slowly, Patrick turned on his side to take a look. His heart thumped painfully hard against his ribcage, almost causing it to burst.

In the corner of the badly lit alley crouched something that seemed to be a mix between a large dog and a wolf, but the size of a pony. That wasn't even the strangest characteristic of the beast. No, the strangest characteristic was the dark brown, folded wings on the beast's back. That couldn't be!

Patrick's gaze traveled to the hands that dumped his fries on the torn bag, generously spreading ketchup all over them. The beast licked the hand in a grateful gesture before it dug into the food.

Patrick's breath caught when he observed the naked man who knelt next to the creature. The man's face was beautiful, no doubt about that. Patrick's gaze slid along a slender throat, finely toned shoulders, and a slight frame. A white, feathery wing covered the man's crotch.
An angel.

The Valentine's Day Hop continues

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!

Not everyone celebrates this day, I know. Some people, like me, don't have a special someone in their lives. That doesn't matter, though. Who doesn't love the idea of love?

Today being Valentine's Day, I'm going to talk about some of the shows I love that I've been watching lately.

Forever:  Tuesdays on ABC

This is a show about an immortal medical examiner. That alone piqued my interest. But watching the show, I've fallen in love with it. Ioan Gruffudd plays Henry Morgan. For two hundred years, he has been unable to die, doomed to watch those he loves do what he cannot. During the Second World War, he adopted an infant abandoned at a concentration camp. That child is now fully grown, Abraham, and is played by Judd Hirsch. Alana de la Garza plays Jo Martinez, a cop whose husband has recently died.

I love the way Henry solves cases. I love the cases. I love the relationship between him and Jo. I love
the relationship between him and Lucas, his wisecracking geeky assistant. But most of all I love the relationship between Henry and Abe. I look forward to watching this every week, and hope it is picked up for another season.

Constantine: Fridays, NBC

To prepare for this show, I read the Hellblazer comics, I'd already seen the movie, with Keanu Reeves, and liked it, because I didn't know any better. Boy, did they get it wrong. Who the hell ever chose Keanu Reeves for that role?

In the TV series, Matt Ryan is a perfect John Constantine. Although the show deviates from canon a bit, it's close enough for government work, and very well done. The angel, Manny, isn't part of the book verse, but I like him. And Zed is a little different, but I like the differences. Ryan nails Constantine with every word, every action, with every breath he takes. He IS John Constantine.

Where the movie totally bolluxed the character of Chas, the series does it right, with a little twist.  For those of you who don't know John, he's an irreverent, sarcastic exorcist - a mage, if you will, whose soul was condemned to Hell for an act committed in the ignorance of youth, for which he wishes to atone. He can be a right selfish son of a bitch, but underneath it all, he has a large heart.

This is another show I'm worried won't be renewed. It's awesome.

Sleepy Hollow: Mondays, Fox

I've loved this show from the beginning, and it just keeps on getting better. This season, we saw the
bad seed return - aka Henry, son of Ichabod and Katrina Crane. Also back is Captain Irving, which is pretty good, since he died last season. Ichabod and Katrina's marriage is on shaky ground, which I can't say breaks my heart since I intensely dislike her. Ichabod is assimilating more and more into modern life. I suspect there are some rough times ahead, especially for the two Witnesses.

I imagine they have two horsemen left to contend with, and who knows what else. I hope this continues for a long while, and maybe Ichabod and Abby Mills can deep their relationship.

Coming back soon are The Following and The Vikings. Sarah and I are still catching up on Person of Interest. We're almost done with Season Three now. It's been an interesting, albeit sad season, with the loss of one of the team. I wasn't surprised since I saw she had a new series coming out. The loony tunes woman who thinks she's in touch personally with the computer is still around. She gets on my nerves. I've come to like Shaw, though.

Another season of Top Chef just ended. My favorite chef won, Chef Mei, but I have to say this season wasn't particularly memorable. I hope the next one is better. I still wish they'd put Sweet Genius back on. I miss seeing Chef Ron.

Going to leave you here, hope everyone's having a great day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Wednesday Briefs: Don't Look Back #33 (6.6)

Happy Hump Day everyone! I had a rocky start to the week, spent the weekend being sick and missed work Monday, but hopefully the worst is behind. So it's time to think about some flash fiction, and who better to do that with than the Wednesday Briefers?

This week, in Don't Look Back, Marshall finally gets his prize, in the form of Lee's ass! First time for everything! Don't miss every exciting moment! And then don't forget to check out what the other Briefers are up to. Their links follow my tale!

Don't Look Back #33 (6.6)

Once Lee had finished applying sufficient lubrication, Marshall positioned himself between his legs. He carefully and slowly inserted one finger inside Lee, trying to gauge his reaction.

“It’s fine,” Lee assured him, “keep going.”

Cautiously, Marshall slipped in a second finger. Lee’s muscles were deliciously tight. He could only imagine what it would feel like to be embedded in all that luscious heat. Lee shifted slightly, and Marshall froze in place. He could hear Lee’s breathing hitch just a little, and he started to remove his hand.

“No, you’re good, just hold on a sec.” Lee took a long breath and then released it. “Okay, go ahead.”

“You sure? I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You’re not hurting me, I’m adjusting, that’s all. Feels good.” Lee’s smile was visible evidence of his pleasure.

Thanks to Lee, Marshall was familiar with the mechanics of stretching, even if he’d never applied the knowledge before now. He scissored his fingers and was gratified to feel the guardian muscles gradually relax at his touch.

“Like that?”

“Mmmhmmm,” Lee moaned in reply, his flushed face a testament to how much he liked what Marshall was doing.

Marshall wiggled his fingers, and Lee squirmed against them, his moans growing louder. Emboldened, Marshall pushed in, reaching for a particular little bundle of nerves. There it was. He touched the gland and was gratified at Lee’s reaction—he arched his back and released a yelp.

“Oh yeah, right there,” he managed to moan, and Marshall pushed on the spot again.

Lee’s cock was weeping copious amounts of pre-cum onto his belly. Marshall couldn’t resist. He leaned over and ran his tongue over the salty head, lapping at it. He felt Lee’s cock twitch, and he couldn’t resist mouthing off a little.

“Better not come until I tell you,” he warned.

Lee chuckled. “I have more control over myself than you any damn day. Bring it on, boy.”

Now, wasn’t that a challenge? Besides being exactly what Marshall wanted to do.

He pressed against Lee’s prostate again, for good measure, before withdrawing his fingers. He could tell Lee was as ready as he was. His nervousness fell away as he positioned himself at Lee’s entrance. Even if he’d never done this before, it felt right and familiar and natural, his instincts asserting themselves over his inexperience. Slowly but surely he slid inside, sheathing himself within the velvet heat that was Lee, until he could go no farther, and he stopped.

He looked into Lee’s eyes and read the answer there to every question he’d ever had, and more. Love shone there, reflected in Lee’s dark blue gaze. It filled this moment, expanding until it overwhelmed and consumed Marshall. Never had anything felt more right or perfect.

Without hesitation, he began to thrust, quickly finding his rhythm, setting a pace between them which Lee matched. Together they were a perfect fit. Like two parts of a well-oiled machine, they flowed together—in and out, back and forth, in glorious harmony.

Lee clenched the sheets beneath him in a tight grip, his eyes darkened to large purple pools. Looking into those beautiful eyes, Marshall read his need and responded, clasping Lee’s cock and pumping it. Lee’s parted lips and breathy moan acknowledge he’d done the right thing.

Marshall felt his control begin to falter, even as he fought not to come. But damn, Lee was so tight, and so hot, and so…. so goddamn good to be inside he just wasn’t sure how long he could stave off the inevitable. This was better than his birthday, better than Christmas… better than anything he could think of, except being made love to by Lee. Two of them against the world. They could face anything, as long as they did it together.

One thing for damn sure—he wasn’t about to find his own release before Lee did. He tightened his grip on Lee’s pre-cum-slicked dick, and pumped it with short, strong strokes.

“Oh yeah, oh yeah…” Lee moaned. “Just like that, keep it comin’…”

Marshall squeezed harder, another need growing inside him, a longing, and even as he felt Lee’s orgasm begin to build—the telltale signs in his body too familiar to miss—he swooped down and meshed their mouths together, their bodies completely united in love. Their tongues met and mingled in passionate licking and sucking.

Marshall pulled back long enough to murmur, “Come for me,” then claimed Lee’s lips once more.
Lee’s cock pulsed within Marshall’s grasp, his cries of pleasure vibrating in Marshall’s mouth. Warm semen splashed them both as Lee came. Marshall continued to thrust, but knew he wouldn’t be far behind. Sure enough, just a few pushes and his own orgasm struck. He released inside of Lee, riding out the tremendous tidal wave as he came, a feeling so intense he thought he might pass out from sheer pleasure.

And when he had emptied himself, he collapsed in a sweaty heap atop Lee, panting.

Marshall didn’t want to move for a long long time, wanted to stay connected with Lee in this very primal way. It felt too good to lose quite yet, so he stayed still, letting his breathing return to normal. He felt Lee’s fingers in his hair, stroking and smoothing back the damp strands.

He rested one hand on Lee’s chest, tenderly caressing the damp flesh. On impulse, he leaned down and laid a kiss on one nipple, then the other. He glanced up to meet Lee’s eyes with his own.

“First time for both of us,” Lee said softly.

“Yep, it was.”

“Think maybe I’ll let you do that again sometime. If you mind your manners.” Lee’s eyes twinkled, and Marshall understood exactly what he was saying.

“Like it, did you?” he couldn’t resist asking with a smirk.

“Not saying yes, not saying no,” Lee teased. “Just saying mebbe.”

“Love you too, Lee,” Marshall whispered as they rearranged themselves into spoons and cuddled for a long while.

Love is Love Valentine's Day Blog Hop

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and to celebrate that day, 43 authors have gotten together for a blog hop! There will be prizes, so stick around and look for the rafflecopter at the end of this post!

Some claim that Valentine's Day is an artificial holiday, and maybe it is, but the emotion behind it is real - it's a celebration of love. So why not accept it and go with it, right? Can you show the person you love too much how much you love him or her? Of course not!

I think this day is especially important for many members of the GLBT community, because for so long their love for one another has been marginalized and dismissed. We're here to tell you that love is love is love!

I write primarily m/m romances, so I know and love the genre, and enjoying delving into the hearts of men who love men. One of the prizes being offered in the giveaway is a copy of my novel, When Will I See You Again - a m/m paranormal romance/mystery. Let me tell you a little bit about it, and then show you all the authors, the prizes, and where to go.

When Will I See You Again takes place in a time when the presence of werewolves and vampires among the general populace is known and accepted, largely because of drugs that control any baser animal instincts. SL57 is the werewolf wonder drug, short for SomnioLupus, otherwise known as Wolf Trank. In the small seaside town of Crescent Bay, people come to the famous nightclub Charisma, mostly because of the charismatic man who is one of the best-known supes in the area: Raoul Marchand. Raoul is a regular party animal, one who lives but to have a good time, and who cares for no one and nothing. But he hasn’t always been this way...
Blurb: Raoul Marchand is the crown prince of Charisma, the infamous night club in Crescent Bay, renowned for its supernatural clientele. He has the pick of any and all men, but he cares for none. He uses them and throws them away again, and has done so for some twenty years, in the aftermath of a tragedy that robbed him of what he loved most in the world.

Alexx Jameson is an idealistic young would-be reporter with the Crescent Bay Chronicle. Presented with an opportunity to write a story on the Marchands, he eagerly grasps the chance to be a real reporter. His friend, Chronicle receptionist Miller Fenwick, suggests they go to Charisma to do a little research. Alexx isn’t sure that’s such a great idea. After all, he’s still under age, being only twenty. No problem, Miller can fix that! Added bonus, there’s a full moon tonight.

When Alexx first encounters Raoul, it isn’t exactly in the way he dreamed of, and he’s sure he made a terrible first impression. But Fate throws them together under unforeseen circumstances, and the attraction between them can’t be denied. Can Raoul let go of the past long enough to find his future with Alexx, or is he doomed to repeat past mistakes?

Excerpt:

Alexx drew in his breath in dismay. This wasn’t going well. Even so, he could not stop staring at Raoul. His eyes met the other man’s. Raoul’s were very golden; he wasn’t aware such colors even existed in the spectrum of the human eye. But then again, he didn’t have any friends that were werewolves either. He wondered if this was a sign that perhaps this man was about to change, right here and now?

The thought was both exhilarating and frightening.

Alexx’s vision telescoped until he wasn’t aware of anything but this gorgeous man in front of him. Blood pounded in his ears and his mouth felt suddenly dry. Having lost all sense of the others in the room, he was surprised when he felt his chair yanked out from under him. Before he could fall, a hand grabbed the scruff of his neck, propelling him to his feet. He glanced at his companion; Miller was being subjected to the same surly treatment.

“You waste my time for this?” Raoul’s upper lip curled back in a snarl. Alexx found himself wildly attracted to him. “I have somewhere I need to be. Paolo, please show these gentlemen out.” Sarcastic much? He turned and reached for the door, but it opened before he touched it.

A shaggy blond with hazel eyes and a cheerful countenance stuck his head inside. “Hey Paolo—” He interrupted himself at the sight of the occupants of the room.

Alexx heard Miller’s sigh of relief, even as he too recognized the newcomer. He’d seen him around the Chronicle often enough, although he’d never really spoken to him. Foster Levine, son of the Chronicle’s owner—heir apparent and future newspaper magnate.

Alexx’s relief quickly changed to anxiety. What if Foster knew how old he really was? He couldn’t be sure one way or the other, but for the sake of argument, he had to assume he did. Would he out him to Raoul Marchand and his burly minion? Had they simply jumped from the frying pan to be scorched by the fire?
