Guest Blogger: Tom Conrad

Please welcome author Tom Conrad, who bravely answered my infamous Rick Reed questions, and is going to talk about his newest release, That Coxom and Blondage Affair.

The Questions
1: You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

Christina Hendricks and the key to the handcuffs she’s wearing.

2: Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?

Man of La Mancha. I’d be Don Quixote, always charging headlong at windmills.

3: Take these three words and give me a 100 word scene using them:  captain, sausage, and ridge.

All Tom Conrad wanted to do was get people to read his damn ebooks (available on Amazon/Kindle), and now this lady - a lovely lady at that - was asking him to insert words like sausage and ridge into a sentence.

“Oh Captain, my Captain, what do I need to do to sell these damn ebooks?” Tom Conrad suddenly thought, rather obscurely picturing that film with Robin Williams in it, and all those sensitive young boys standing on tables and committing suicide. Hm, Tom Conrad further mused, I’ve just used them all, haven’t I? Yes. Yes, I have!

4: You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?

Ha. I love the expression “do”. I would do Lady Galadriel from the Lord of the Rings books: her beauty is legendary and I like older women. Admittedly, I think she’s 3,000 years old, but just think about all the “experience” she has. Of course, we’d be making love, not fucking ;)

5: What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?

I’m single, having just come out of a short-lived relationship, though we kind of termed it as “dating” throughout. My ideal scenario would be listening to our favorite music: sharing our favorite songs, drinking wine and “doing one another” on the floor, bed… or in a big bath tub. Actually, taking a bath together (whilst listening to music) would be my ideal date.

6: When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?

It’s very much differed with each of my works.

With my debut novel, Rich Pickings for Ravens (a humorous mystery/romance) I started with the character, Midnight Merlot. The idea for the character was central. We follow Midnight as he tries to remember how he ended up dead and also why none of his ex-girlfriends have attended his humanist funeral.

In my latest novel, That Coxom & Blondage Affair (bawdy rom-com) it was the plot that came first, i.e. I wanted to write about Internet dating and bubbling in my head I had an idea for a slight Fifty Shades parody.

7: If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?

Christina Hendricks: I’ve always wondered how I’d look with massive boobs?!

8: Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?

The shark in Jaws (unnamed). They really should’ve gotten a bigger boat.

Actually, I’m a big fan of a lot of American TV. I love Breaking Bad, Dexter and appreciate the brilliance of Thomas Harris (novels and movie adaptations): Hannibal is probably the best and most chilling villain ever created.

9: Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?

I fantasize about one of my old sociology tutors a fair bit - don’t roll your eyes at me, I could’ve said history tutors ;)

10: Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

I’ve several alternative dating books I want to release as soon as possible. I’m not sure how they’ll be received but I hope it will shake the world up a bit, along with “hopefully” getting some pulses racing. All in all, I’ve quite a few pies in the oven, so I’m optimistic I’ll get them out and people will actually read and feast on them. At the moment I’ve eight titles on Amazon/Kindle: two full-length novels and a collection of shorter works. It’d be great if people checked them out and gave them a try.

Anyway, big THANKS to everyone who read this far and of course thank you to Julie for some grand questions.

Please read the excerpt below and most importantly go and BUY my books. They’re a good read, honest!

An excerpt from Chapter Six of That Coxom & Blondage Affair:

Beatrice barely paid any mind to Dan’s unruly grammar, only a split second spent furrowing her brow at his apparent confusion over commas and exclamation marks. Instead, she focused on the three main pictures of Dan: three holiday snaps displayed on his public profile, and each one of them showing his cheeky/shameless face. Indeed, in one photo, taken in Thailand’s Tiger Temple, Dan crouched down beside a dirty orange, worn-out looking tiger. Unfortunately, the big cat (usually a majestic and fearsome beast) had been doped up to the eyeballs, and thus had been temporarily unable to claw or maul the grinning Dan; not even as Dan held his thumb up to the camera like a grinning idiot. Obviously, if the poor tiger hadn’t have been so heavily sedated perhaps Beatrice would have been spared the ordeal of receiving regular photos of Dan’s junk.

Not that Beatrice truly minded looking at a cock pic, after all she loved to get her hands and mouth on a fulsome member. The problem was... well, Dan’s member was somewhat ugly. Not small, pencil thin or puckered, just rather unappealing. What’s more, despite its lack of a pleasing aesthetic, Dan truly seemed compelled to send photos of his tackle on a regular basis. The first picture he’d sent on Monday. It’d clearly been taken in Dan’s bedroom; a small box-room with an England flag plastered on the wall. Beatrice hadn’t replied to that one, but a second photo; taken in a grimy looking bathroom soon followed all the same. This latest offering, of Dan’s pride and joy poking out the top of his briefs, displayed yet another fresh angle of his slimy and jaundice looking manmeat.

Thanks, Daniel, Beatrice only thought to herself, swiftly deleting the message from her inbox.

Message three: another guy seemingly wanting to send photos.

Tagline: Looking for a relationship... honest!

Virtual Book Tour: Secret Sister

Please welcome author Emelle Gamble. She's going to talk to us about her new release, Secret Sister, and she's going to answer a few familiar questions.  Emelle will be awarding a $100 Amazon GC to a random commenter during the tour. The more you enter, the better your chances of winning. To find out where the other stops on her tour are, go here. And look for the rafflecopter at the end of this post.

The Questions
1)      You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?
My husband, affectionately known as ‘Phil the fist’. (He’s a Brooklyn boy).  My one item is a bowie knife. With it he’d feed us, whittle a raft and or a house,  protect us, and cut my bangs. He is that good.

2)      Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?  The
Wizard of Oz. I’m Dorothy, always trying to find my way home.

3)      Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  night, union,  minute.

First of all, let me say this was a difficult request for me.  It’s night, I’m tired and it took me a minute to actually understand what you were asking me for. Then I had to look up how scenario is defined (an outline or synopsis of a play; especially : a plot outline used by actors of the commedia dell'arte). And the word ‘union’ to me either means the AFL-CIO or something vaguely civil war related.

But here goes…The Union was crumbling, the night sky was darkening, time was ticking down to the last minute. Who you gonna call? Ryan Gosling.

This exercise proved something to me I’d forgotten. I have never, ever been able to write to someone else’s idea. I once had a three-book deal  offered to me if I could only write a big saga kind of story about a piece of Egyptian jewelry, horse racing, and 1890 London.  I couldn’t do it.

4)
You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to make love to anyone you want. Who do you Heathcliff. I’d change his mind about that dame, Cathy!
choose and why?

   5)    What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other? Quiet. Nothing hurried. Away from home. Three magic components which have always worked magically for me.

   6)    When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot? I begin with plot, specifically, the ending and the title. I then build the book  backwards to explain the ending. I am afraid to admit this in print as my family will read it and understand something is wrong with me. For real.

7)      If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you? Julia Roberts. I want her to
have that look on her face she has in Notting Hill, when the people who don’t realize she’s a famous actress asks her what she made last year. She tells them she made 6 million dollars and has a contract barring them from requiring her to show her naked ass. Of course, she looks nothing like me, and that scene has nothing to do with anything in my life, but she has the right spirit!

8)      Who’s your favorite horror villain and why? I do not like horror at all, and I have no favorites. I can’t read it or watch it. I still have nightmares about those old black and white movies about Giant radioactive ants and UFO’s that land and the Martians put things in your neck and control you. I couldn’t read the Hannibal Lecter books or The Shining or The Other or The Excorcist or anything Stephen King ever wrote, except for Dolores Claiborne, which I feel is a masterpiece.

9)
Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it? Recent history, Cary Grant. Enough said. Further back? I’d love to spend a week with Michaelangelo. I know, I know, he might have been gay. I don’t want to swoon over him, I’d just love to talk to him, watch him work, and be in the presence of genius.

   10)  Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it? Yes. And I’ve written it, so get ready world. HA! It’s set in 1950 Los Angeles and it’s about a gorgeous blonde, a WWII hero turned journalist, and a monster

EXCERPTS :

When I ‘woke up,’ strange words to use after being unconscious for what was surely days, not hours, I felt remarkably lucid. Which is to say, I opened my eyes and saw and understood that I was in a hospital bed, there were nurses working in the area outside my glassed-in room, and I was hooked to an I.V. and some other kind of machine.

I didn’t know the story of how I got here, but assumed it was bad. I remembered hearing, somewhere, that I had been in a terrible car accident, but I was blank to any other details.

For instance, I didn’t know my name.

I examined the contents of my brain and started a list of unknown things. Where was I? No clue. What day was it? I looked outside and saw blue sky. Zero. I was blank to the most basic of information.

My chest tightened and a roar began in my head. Don’t panic. I gulped air, blinked; fought to stay awake.

 “Roxanne. Roxanne Ruiz. Do you know where you are?”

I didn’t recognize that name. In my brain I saw a face. A kind face, smiling. A great looking guy with strong arms and blue eyes.

But I had no idea who he was either …

Virtual Book Tour: Saving Casey: Liza O'Connor

Today please welcome author Liza O'Connor, who has bravely answered my infamous Rick Reed questions and is going to talk about her new release, Saving Casey.  Liza will award a $25 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. Other random commenters at blog stops will receive: $5 Amazon GCs, tattoos like Casey's, or offer to place tattoos like Casey's on a jpg picture supplied by winner.

Liza Responds to the really, really, really, hard
Questions

1)    You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

Barack Obama and a firestarter. Here’s why.

 I ran through a great deal of scenarios with various people. It turns out I need my computer AND an Internet connection, so it doesn’t matter who I’m with, I’m not going to be happy. I’m going to be hungry and grumpy in short order. So I turned to getting rescued as quickly as possible. (That’s called thinking out of the boxif you don’t like the game, change it.)

Now the choice was easy:  Barack Obama. Seems like a cheerful, levelheaded, pleasant fellow. And being the President, I expect a massive search and rescue would occur within seconds of him disappearing.

So why did I choose fire? To build a massive bonfire to aid in the rescue. And while we wait, sitting by the toasty fire, I can have a fascinating conversation with someone I would otherwise never meet.

Then when I return to my home and log in, I can tell everyone about my time with my new friend Barack. They, of course, will not believe me.

2)    Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?

I was beginning to think my life really didn’t mimic any musical. But then I found one. Urinetown.  It’s a satirical musical that attempts to achieve a great many things at once, all the while, bordering on the nonsensical.  I am none of the characters. I am the musical and all those voices are within me.

Urinetown satirizes the greed of capitalism, the inability of people to be socially responsible, bureaucratic idiocy, corporate incompetence, and dirty local politics—all the while singing ridiculous songs and being silly. And it ends badly, but everyone leaves laughing. In other words, it’s rather like my blogs.

3)    Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  internal, condensed, wait

My internal sense of humor cannot wait to be condensed like milk and canned for the massesbought, stored, and consumed.

4)    You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?

First of all, I prefer the phrase ‘getting frisky’.
For one, no censoring bot will tag it and remove my answer. Secondly, it sounds more fun.

To me, ‘fuck’ is for cursing.  And I don’t want to curse with or at John Cusack. He’s reported to be intelligent, edgy, and charismatic. To me, those are far more important than a six pack.

5)    What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?
Do a fun, life-endangering activity, such as jumping out a plane (with a parachute) or rafting down a class four river that revs up the adrenaline. At the end of said adventure we’d take a quick shower and get frisky.

6)    When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?
I actually begin with a dream where my muse gives me a scene or two with a vague plot. So when I wake up,  I focus on the characters , teasing facts out of them as they meet each other. Once I understand who they are, I set them free to interact and the story goes where they want to take it, which is almost always in a different direction than my original plot concept.

7)    If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?
The comedienne, Erinn Hayes (Dr. Spratt- Children’s Hospital,  Guys with Kids,  It’s a Disaster – Indie film). She has the range to play both the crazy and serious parts of me.

  8)  Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?
Hannibal LecterHe’s such a soft-spoken, gentle psychopath. However, I would be reluctant to accept a dinner invitation from him, in fear I’d become the main course.

9)    Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?
Ernest Hemingway.
 Besides being a fabulous author, he was also easy on the eyes and a bit of a rake.  A great bit of a rake. He was a rake’s rake.

  10)                    Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

That probably describes ten of the novels I’ve written. Sometimes my characters go off in a direction that either skirts or downright tramples our current mores and laws.

However, I was once told the plot of my current novel, Saving Casey, was ‘unpublishable’ because it begins with the suicide of the main character and entertains a budding romance between a 17 yr old girl and a 30 yr old guy.

However, with careful handling of these matters, the book has been very well received. While my main character does kill herself in chapter 1, she awakens in chapter 2 in the body of a 17-year-old troubled teen.  Thus, it is the old woman’s soul in a teen’s body who has fallen for her security guard. However, he is as honorable as they come, so while he does love her, nothing happens until they become older. There’s also one other forbidden topic, but I don’t want to spoil the story for you.

The good news is that Saving Casey’s current success makes me hope that with deft handling, I can bring my other ‘forbidden’ novels to light as well.

BLURB:

Eighty-year-old Cass wakes up in the body of a troubled seventeen-year-old girl named Casey, which all believe has survived a suicide attempt. Cass intends to turn the girl’s life around, only it’s harder than she expects. All Casey’s troubles have now become Cass’s and someone wants her dead.

EXCERPT :

EXCERPT : Troy admits he loves Cass

Any chance you’d be willing to go to a different doctor to get another treatment on your face?”

“I really like Dr. Grey.”

“I know, but we can’t take the chance. You’d visit a doctor in Montana after office hours.”

“Does he have the equivalent experience and skills as Dr. Grey? Because I already have nightmares where I’m blind and irreparably scarred.”

“He won’t touch your eyes. He’ll just work on the cheeks.”

“And if I’m scarred, causing little children to scream at the sight of me, will you still love me?” She expected him to flounder with his response because it required him to actually admit he loved her, something he’d refused to do. To her shock, he replied at once.

“Absolutely.”

“No hesitation?”

“Nope.”

“So explain why you’ll love me without hesitation if I’m hideously scarred, but won’t even kiss me when I’m just ghoulishly tattooed?”

“Simple. Dan wouldn’t mind if I’m the only man in the world who still thinks you’re beautiful. But as long as millions of better alternatives exist, Dan would never forgive me for stealing your future.”

She hated it when he nailed the truth. If she were really seventeen, she would agree a hundred percent. Sighing heavily, she muttered, “I’ll see the doctor.”

“He’s not going to leave you scarred, Cass.”

“I hope not, but if he does, I’m holding you to your word.”

“You have it.”

She smiled at the turn of this conversation. “So you think I’m beautiful?”

“Inside and out,” he replied. “We need to change the conversation now.”

“Why? I like this conversation.”

Virtual Book Tour: Seven Year Itch by SD Skye

Please welcome today author S.D. Skye who is doing a virtual book tour for her new release, Seven Year Itch, a J.J. McCall novel in the FBI series. S.D. is going to tell us about her book, but first she has answered my infamous Rick Reed questions. Make yourself at home, and we'll get started! Don't forget to read to the end to find out about the giveaway!

 The Questions
1)      You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

My man and a solar-powered MacBook. As long as I can love and write, what else could I possibly need?

2)      Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?

Mary Poppins. Firm but fair. Sensible. Sweet as sugar…at least until you cross or me or try to pull the wool over my eyes. Then you should pray for a spoonful of sugar. However, I can’t sing worth diddly…although I did involuntarily attempt a graceless flight with an umbrella in the middle of a monsoon once.

   3)   Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  customary, ethical, ran.

I ran my fingers through my hair to relieve my frustration.  For while it may be customary to ask “uncaffeinated” writers to strain their brains at the butt-crack of dawn and devise a scenario for three random, unconnected words, I’m quite certain it is not ethical. J

4)      You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?

Mr. Darcy. He seriously needed to loosen up and I think a little hot, sweaty sex would’ve done the trick.

5)      What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?

For me, romance isn’t about where we are or what we do, but how we feel. Sitting together in front of a cozy fire, cuddled up on the couch, laughing, joking, and sharing our feelings (as a precursor to the hot, sweaty sex of course) would be ideal for me. It’s very hard these days to find people who you can do nothing with and be happy together in all of that nothingness.

6)      When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?

Usually characters come to me first. I hear voices…but in a good, non-psychotic way. Then I faces usually appear in the form of movie stars. After that I just watch, listen, and follow to see where they go, what kind of trouble they get into, and how they manage to get themselves out of it…and transcribe along the way. From this process grows my best story ideas.

7)      If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?

I think I should play me. If offered the part, I could hear a choir of stars say, “Uhhh…this chick is crazy with the voices in her head. Thanks, but no thanks!”

8)      Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?

Chucky. It always amused me that people would be scared of a psycho doll. If I were in the movie, it would end about 20 seconds after it began because I’d stomp that sucker to death and call it a day.

   9)    Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?

It’s a toss-up between JFK and RFK. As a life-long Redskins fan, I’m leaning toward RFK because I have a strong affinity for the stadium.

10)   Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?
Oh yes. I’m writing it as we speak. My new series, beginning with the Seven Year Itch, is probably a little before it’s time. It features an alcoholic female African American FBI Agent with a Black Panther father, who falls in love with her Italian partner from a prominent mafia crime family. They recruit and catch Russian spies. Oh, by the way, her family was cursed by a Creole magic worker so she’s also a lie detector.
I swear, I wasn’t smoking the wacky weed when I came up with this story idea. It is the result of mostly lucid thoughts. And if that doesn’t scare you, you will probably love these books.

The Seven Year Itch
 (A J.J. McCall Novel – the FBI Series)
by S. D. Skye

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Her Family Was Vexed With a Generational Curse. Now for Lie Detecting FBI Spy Catcher J.J. McCall, the Truth is in The Seven Year Itch.
FBI Special Agent J.J. McCall is a born lie detector who recruits foreign spies to catch American traitors. She and co-case agent Tony Donato have lost two of their most critical Russian sources in the past two years, and they may lose another in just a few short days if they don’t catch him, The ICE PHANTOM, a rumored insider spy more insidious and elusive than Ames and Hanssen combined. They suspect he might be burrowed deep inside FBI counterintelligence—and his body count is going up.
Drawn into an unsanctioned mole hunt, they have a week to catch him, save a key source’s life—and their own. While J.J.’s lie detecting ability helps them narrow down the list of suspects, the lie she tells to herself may help the ICE PHANTOM defect to Moscow and get away with the murder of the man she loves.
Skye's debut FBI Series, filled with mystery, espionage, romance, and suspense, will keep you burning through the pages until J.J. catches the very last spy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

J.J searched for serenity in bottom of a Belvedere bottle. The wait for his sugar-coated lies had dragged on for too long, and she’d lost patience. After glancing around the small reception area to ensure no one was watching, she removed from her purse a silver flask and smiled. It was filled to the brim with relief. One small gulp and the soothing burn slipped down her throat, calming her prickly nerves. Inside she felt on the brink of dissolution. The 10 am swallow was just a necessary evil. It would get her through the meeting, until time for her next dose of repose.

Another dead source. She couldn’t stomach the thought of his demise. Two had been more than her fair share. The unceasing cycle of loss had worn her resolve thin. She’d refused to let another family suffer that pain if she could in any way prevent it. J.J. wanted to tell the FBI where to stick her badge and gun, but she had promises to keep. Promises to Viktor. Promises to herself. No matter what Cartwright said, she’d see her case through until the end. And the end was as near as nightfall because the op was simple and would go off without a hitch.

J.J. stiffened her back and squared her shoulders as the elixir took effect. Her posture mirrored that of the powerful yet graceful eagle perched atop her FBI badge. She’d eyed it, waiting for the carefully choreographed denial and deception ritual to begin.

  Now for the giveaway I mentioned earlier:

S.D. will be awarding a Kindle Fire and a $25 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour. (US and Canada only). The more you enter, the better your chances. If you want to follow the rest of the tour, go here!

Thanks for stopping by! Until next time, take care!
