Question of the Week: Tell us about a book character you’d trade places with.

That's a hard question, and I'm not sure I would do that. If you're familiar with the book and the character, you know everything that will happen, so what kind of a life is that? 

On the other hand, if I trade places with the character, maybe I can change the outcome of whatever happened to him or her.  

So let's think about this. I can trade with Scarlett O'Hara, and keep Rhett Butler's love and quit pining for Ashley Wilkes. I wouldn't mind trading places with Desiree, though, and then I'd be loved by Napoleon (even if he does jilt me) and then get to marry a Marshall of France and later become Queen of Sweden. That sounds really cool. But then, speaking of Napoleon, if I changed places with Betsy Balcombe, from The Last Love, and be a friend to him.

So many choices. I think I'll go with Cardinal Richelieu, of the Three Musketeers and have fun fighting the musketeers and ruling the country of France.

I almost didn't remember this week, it went so fast!

Q: What do you do with your books after you are done reading them?

Well, I return the ones I borrowed from the library to them. If I like something enough to buy it, I generally keep it. But now and then I do go through my books and weed out the ones I don't want to keep any more. Generally, I bookmooch those. 

As for ebooks, I guess it depends on whether I liked the book or not. If I don't, then it can get deleted.

Yay, TGIF, right? It's going to be a great weekend, but first, Friday!

Q: Book Vacay: Where is the best destination reading spot for you? (Where do you like to go to read other then your home)

To be honest, I don't read many other places. I read at work, on my lunch break, but I don't exactly call that a destination reading spot. The only other place I can think of is when I go to visit my daughter Katie, in Lafayette, Indiana, I take a book, and I usually find time to sit in her family room, with her and my other daughter Sarah, and read. That is my destination reading spot, and a place I love to be.

Feature & Follow Friday

I was going to post a film review today, but I saw this question, and had to answer it. Be sure to see the answers the other bloggers gave, by going here.

Q: Today’s is the US’ Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.

That's a tough one, cause there are several that come to mind. For example, Desiree, which takes place before, during, and after the French Revolution. War and Peace. Seven Days in May (an attempted overthrow, luckily it failed, but it's also a great movie, with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster). 

But I would have to say my all time favorite book with a war in it would have to be the one I've read seventeen times - Gone With The Wind. It takes place during the Civil War, of course, and I have yet to get tired of it.

Q: What is your preferred reading format? Hardcover, eBooks, paperback etc?

Although I seldom buy them any more, because they are ridiculously expensive, there is just something about the feel of a hardback in my hands that I enjoy, especially an older one with a nice cover - not a jacket. I buy paperbacks because they're cheaper and lighter to carry, but now that I have  Kindle Paperwhite (thanks to my generous son!) I am getting used to that.

Follow Friday

Good morning and Happy Friday! The weather appears to be sunny and cold here. I'll know better when I actually step outside to run errands later on, something I've not done since last Sunday, when we went to see Gangster Squad. It's been a busy week! The good news is that I may be getting a temp job that will last for about two months and pays $12/hour! Also, I am almost done reworking Leonardo di Caprio is a Vampire, at which time I shall submit it to a new publisher!

Okay, so on to the question:

Q:  WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE VILLAIN FROM A BOOK?

That is a more complex question than one might imagine. Some people will automatically assume villain, as in antagonist. But in some books, the villain is the protagonist. So I suppose it depends on one's definition.

Villain as protagonist - undoubtedly Hannibal Lecter, followed closely by Count Dracula. I have never seen Dr. Lecter as truly evil, simply on a different plane of existence from the rest of the world, a more elevated plane. He is charming, cultivated, knowledgeable, interesting, and he does have his standards regarding those whom he kills. If he is a little offbeat, well, that is understandable if you read Hannibal Rising, which explores his roots and what led him to be the way he is. And thank you, Anthony Hopkins, for bringing him so deliciously to the big screen.

As for my own books, which is a different question, I know, I think my favorite villain would be Lucifer, from Revelations, although the whole good/bad thing gets blurred at times. As Lucifer likes to say, he and God are not as diametrically opposed as some would suppose. But he does admit to being the villain in the story, albeit a very charming and vain one.

How do I see Lucifer in my own mind? Sort of a naughty Lucius Malfoy, but with greater power.

Another week gone, are you saying TGIF? The days have just flown by, I swear! Happy Friday to one and all and welcome to another Feature & Follow Friday. Before we get to today's question, I'm guest blogging with Lily Sawyer today, and there's a contest, so go here and check it out!

Q: What New Years Blogging or Writing resolution have you placed on yourself?

Let's take each questions separately, shall we?

Blogging: I'd like to gain more followers and blog as often as I can on my own blog, plus have  more guest bloggers and be a guest on more blog. 

Writing: I  hope to finish the Moonlit Skies series with M.A. Church this year, and start another one. I hope to finish some of the sequels I've started - for Max, Leonardo, Dark Love, among others - and finish and sub some of the flash fiction I've started: Trapped in Time, Sonny and Tim, Scent of a Wolf, Lust Never Sleeps, etc.  My fervent desire is to become self-sufficient as a writer this year without having to work outside the home (unless I choose to). And to attend GRL in Atlanta in October.

Happy Friday! I hope everyone is well and happy today and looking forward with anticipation to the end of the year! We have a very interesting question this week, one not so easily answered. So let's get right down to it, shall we?

Q: WHAT BOOK DO YOU THINK EVERYONE SHOULD READ? IF YOU COULD GIFT THE ENTIRE POPULATION WITH ONE BOOK?

There are so many good books in the world. Of course, they are read for different reasons. Am I allowed to offer one of my own? I'll do that first, and then list the alternate, for those that might cry foul or self-serving.

Revelations would be my choice. Because it's a message of love, and hope and peace. Something the world could do with a healthy dose of.

But let's go with another book too, one I recently read and found very fascinating. Paradise Lost. It says a lot about mankind, and his relationship to God. Not all of it good. Very much food for thought. Also interesting if you know the author was blind and dictated it to his daughter. Also that he lived during the time of Cromwell... well, you can look that up yourself, if you're interested and so inclined.

So there you have it. Revelations and Paradise Lost.

TGIF, right? Although I'm sorry to see this week end. I've been working at Data Entry and loving every minute of it. Next week I return to the drudgery and boredom that is Imaging. So I'm making the most of today!

Q: Activity! Who do you want to be? If you could choose any character from a book. What do you think that character looks like and what do you have in common?

My Answer:  That is a very tough question. So many characters to choose from. One that comes to mind is Ana Steele from Fifty Shades. Why? Duh! Cause she gets Christian Grey, an uber-sexy billionaire. Or do I go the other way and opt for Sirius Black, my favorite HP character of all time?  He looks like Gary Oldman, and I guess my interest is less than honorable, so let's move on.

I just finished reading Paradise Lost, a very fascinating book, and I really enjoyed the character of Lucifer (a version of which appears in my book Revelations, which comes out in February). Let's go with him. I see Lucifer as being beautiful. He was an angel, after all. Long flowing platinum hair and beautiful blue eyes. What do we have in common? We speak up for what we believe in, even if it's not a popular cause or idea. And we're not afraid to take a stand.  Yes, I'll go with Lucifer for now. Tomorrow?  Who knows!  lol
