Virtual Book Tour: Victory Portrait

Author Name: Tali Spencer

Book Name: Victory Portrait
Series: Pride of Uttor
Book: Four

Release Date: April 6, 2016
Blurb:

Imperial captive and former Sebboyan prince Peta Kordeun has one great wish: to meet Darius Arrento, conqueror of his country and a man he has idolized since childhood. That wish comes true the day the Uttoran emperor assigns Peta to assist the artist who will be painting the great general’s official portrait.

General Darius Arrento would rather take a crossbow bolt through his flesh than sit for a portrait, until his friend the emperor forces his hand. The notorious artist, Brazzi, uses semen and other sexual fluids to bind his colors—and Arrento is captivated by the artist’s pretty helper. Before long he is driven to possess the gorgeous young man who draws battle maps and whose naïve charm has won more hearts in Uttor than Arrento has won battles.

When Arrento learns that Peta, the slave he covets and wants for his own, is one of the despised Kordeun princes, he storms from Uttor toward a far corner of the empire—where he quickly finds himself embroiled in a plot to tear Uttor’s empire apart. His emotions and loyalties frayed, the great Arrento is in the battle of his life…and Peta may hold the key to his survival.

Pages or Words: 78,600 words

Categories: Alternate Universe, Fantasy, Gay Fiction, M/M Romance, Romance

Excerpt:
“You want me to assist the painter. Only that?” Peta asked.
“Yes. I just want you to understand you will be naked and…Brazzi will want you to be sexually aroused.”
“What?”
“It’s what Brazzi does. Not for himself—not unless you’re a woman—but for his method. He was tried three years ago on charges of obscenity because he uses…sexual fluids for mixing his paint. He truly is a genius. His colors are astonishing.”
“And you want Arrento to see me like that? Naked and…being used?”
“No.” Gaspar was being firm. “I want a portrait of my general. And I happen to think that the sight of you will keep his ass firmly planted for whatever sittings the painter requires. You see, Darius has one weakness—only one. He cannot resist a thing of beauty—and you, my pretty slave, are the most breathtaking young man I have ever had the privilege to look upon.”
Peta flushed. Gaspar wasn’t smiling. The man was serious.
Could he do it? Did he want to do it? Peta knew he was pretty. His looks had blessed and cursed him all his life. His beauty had attracted Kesme as a fellow cadet and was what Kesme had praised that last night when they’d made love...and Peta’s face was what Lukacz, his own father, had sought to destroy, thinking that doing so would release him from predation and unnatural desires. And now Gaspar, too, wanted only one thing…
“Just sit there and look pretty,” he said, heart sinking as he grasped what Gaspar was asking him to do.
“Only if you’re willing. I’m not completely oblivious to what this sort of service might entail. It could be rather…awkward. On the other hand, it might not be for long. Darius can be stubborn. It’s possible he won’t show up.”
And just as possible that he would.
Peta wanted to say no but he could not get his mouth to form the word. He might never get another chance to see Arrento, perhaps hear his voice. Be in the same room with him.
He’d be silent…naked…terribly exposed even in his utter worship.
But he would at least be able to say he had seen the great man.
“I’ll do it,” he said.

Captive Heart Review

Captive Heart

Author: Tali Spencer
Publisher: Resplendence Press
American release date: January 31, 2013
Format/Genre/Length: Novel/ Fantasy/Romance/226 pages
Overall Personal Rating: ★★★★★

When Prince Lorant kidnaps his potential bride, Adora of Uttor, rather than going through the proscribed courting ritual, all hell breaks loose. Her brother, Emperor Gaspar Leonnte, isn’t about to stand for that, and he declares war on Sebboy.

Princess Julissa of Sebboy has led a sheltered life, among her many siblings and her parents. She knows that someday she’ll be married off for the good of the country. But things at home are not what they seem, including the way Lorant abominally treats his captive bride and no one stands up for her, and the unwarranted harsh treatment meted out to her brother Petraeus.

The imminent arrival of Uttoran forces sends the royal family scattering in different directions. Julissa is sent off with her timid cousin Aurelia, who is as gentle as they come but has been treated badly by men in her life and fears them. Unfortunately, the two young women find themselves deserted and captured. Through misleading circumstances, Julissa finds herself in Emperor Gaspar’s bed—and despite herself, she finds herself drawn to him. He doesn’t seem quite the beast he’s been painted to be. Can she reconcile her growing feelings with the duty she owes to her family? And can ill-chosen words, spoken in anger, tear them apart before they’re barely begun?

This book drew me in from the beginning. Julissa is a great heroine—she’s lovely, brave, and open-minded. And I loved that she isn’t your typical thin as a rail heroine. She has curves, and she is beautiful with them. Gaspar is everything one could ask for in a leading man—handsome, sexy, brave, intelligent, just, and hot-blooded. I loved every scene between these two, whether involving sex or not. Their give and take crackles with the exploration of initial attraction, despite their perceived circumstances, and the sex is hotter than hot.

Ms. Spencer has a way with words that conveys a great deal in a smooth, flowing style. She kept me guessing until the very end what would happen. There is sex, drama, suspense and more. This is a book I would happily read again, a definite keeper for my book shelf.

I can’t wait to read the second book in the Pride of Uttor series, which is m/m. A great start to what I anticipate will be a great series.

Guest Blogger Tali Spencer

Please welcome today my good friend and fellow author Tali Spencer, who has bravely answered my
questions yet again! Plus she has a new release you're going to flip for. It's called Thick as Thieves, and I knew when I read little snippets of it on Wednesday Briefs that it was something special. Already pre-ordered my copy! This calls for a celebration! I have just the thing, so why don't you get started, Tali?

Tali Answers Julie’s Questions
1)      You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

I’d choose my husband Steve, because he never gives up, ever… and also because I promised him I would never leave home without him. My item would be a fully staffed cruise ship. We’ve always wanted to have a cruise ship and private island all to ourselves.

  2)    Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?

This time around, I’ll say “My Fair Lady.” I would be Eliza Doolittle. Her relationship with Professor Higgins
unfortunately mirrors my first marriage. He also wanted someone he could “improve”. I learned a lot from the relationship but it was as ambiguous as the musical in terms of whether it could deliver a happy ending.

3)      Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  snore, spotlight, bridle

Master Jacques should have known better than to choose a narcoleptic for his spotlight scene on pony play. To be sure, his ponyboy’s burnished leather harness and bridle looked magnificent, a masterpiece. The flowing tail of black horsehair was a triumph. Unfortunately, Remy didn’t look so sexy now, flat on the floor with his mouth sagging open. And the snore was an insult.

Jacques flicked the buggy whip so its short lash bit sharply into the sweet curve of Remy’s luscious ass. The resulting sting succeeded in waking the beauty. Remy’s eyes snapped open to show irises of pansy blue.

4)      You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?

Fafhrd. He’s a seven foot tall barbarian who appears in a series of stories written by Fritz Leiber. He’s a bit of a rogue, but he’s also smart, practical, romantic and genuinely enjoys the company of women. It was between him and Tyrion Lannister.

  5)      What is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?

We’re back to that cruise ship. Make it a seven day cruise. I love being on the ocean. There’s something about not having to anything but whatever we want to do. Spend all day in bed… visit an exotic port. It’s marvelous. I get very creative when I have time away from writing. There are so many marvelous ways to have fun with a man, and mine loves to have fun.

6)      When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?

Usually I start with an image, but I’ll say character because the image usually involves a character in some way. Thick as Thieves began with the image of a man and a unicorn horn. It was a pretty racy image.

7)      If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?

I’d like to say Madonna, because she wears leather so well. But Gwyneth Paltrow actually looks more like
me. Of course, she’d have to eat a lot more to truly pull it off. But I’ve seen her in enough movies to know she could totally nail my personality.

8)      Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?

Cthulhu. I guess I have a thing for tentacle creatures from the Deep.

9)      Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?

Still Ben Franklin. Gosh, I love Ben. He was the perfect man: articulate, principled and he had amazing love for humanity. It’s karma that I moved to the city that made him its signature citizen. I have a picture of me with Ben—an actor, but he looks and acts like Ben, and the picture was taken at the site of Ben’s actual house, exactly where he used to sit under his favorite tree. The photo’s on my desk right beside that of my husband.

10)   Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

Not really. By that I mean I have some pretty bizarre stories in my head. Stuff that’s pretty far out there. But I think equally warped work is being produced by other writers and finding readers. Whether or not I’m ready to go there for all the world to see is the real question.

Blurb:
After Vorgell the barbarian fucks himself with a unicorn horn, he ends up in a cell with Maddog, a pretty young thief. It’s lust at first sight for Vorgell—but honestly, he can’t help it. Unicorn horn is a potent aphrodisiac, and now he can’t stop thinking about sex. Luckily, Madd is one male witch who knows how to put Vorgell’s new magical body to good use when he tricks Vorgell into a kiss that helps them escape.
Vorgell may desire sex in general—and Madd in particular—but Madd has no intention of being screwed by a man twice his size. He has problems of his own, including an enchanted collar that causes him to desire his most hated enemy. He wants that collar off as soon as possible, but that requires stealing a basilisk egg from the castle they just escaped.

Drawn together by lust and magic, the two men join forces and soon find themselves up to their necks in witches, wizards, and trouble. Vorgell and Madd might just be perfect for each other, but first they have to survive long enough to find out.

Excerpt:
“Be careful!” Vorgell warned.

Madd held his tongue as the woman shaving the barbarian calmly lopped off another chunk of beard. Thanks to Ibeena’s erection-killing intervention, Vorgell’s bath had been uneventful. After being divested of a bagful of coarse and tangled hair, the big man was on the verge of looking well-groomed.

“There you go.” The woman stepped back and wiped her razor on a cloth. She gave Madd a lifted eyebrow of congratulations. “Under all that was a promising man.”

He didn’t deny it. Vorgell’s hair was drying so it gleamed like a lion’s golden mane, and the shorter beard revealed strong, shapely lips and a rugged jawline. Even shorn, the man looked disturbingly virile. Blue eyes shaded by golden lashes swept the woman with smiling invitation. To his alarm, she responded by flicking the pink tip of her tongue across her lip.

“Get out. Can’t you see he likes men?” Madd closed the hide curtain as soon as she’d left. “No witches for you,” he told Vorgell pointedly.

“Why not?” The big man shot him a glare. “She looks pleasant enough. Women have always been the best fit for my needs. You are not the first man to refuse my advances. I have often resorted to the soft bodies of women.”

“Well, find some other wench to plow. She’s a witch. Witch women use sex to create magic. And, you, my friend, have magical spunk.”

Vorgell at least appeared to grasp his point. He turned his back on Madd and reached for his clothes. Madd savored a glorious view of immense shoulders, a trim waist, powerful thighs, and a beautiful, sculpted ass. Damn it, but the barbarian was built like a god! And not just any god. Vorgell could only be one of the greater gods, a god of storms or of war, capable of crushing the god of poetry in his fist. The look he cast back at Madd over his shoulder possessed heat enough to ignite an inferno.
If he wasn’t careful, it just might ignite trouble.

Guest Blogger Tali Spencer

Today please welcome my friend and fellow author Tali Spencer to Full Moon Dreaming! She dared to answer the infamous Rick Reed questions. Plus she's going to tell us about her upcoming release, a short story in Storm Moon's Devil's Night anthology. Tali, why don't you start with the questions, while I mix us some drinks? Mmmm, how about a mudslide? Can't go wrong with chocolate, right?

Julie Hayes Interview

Thanks Julie! It’s always fun to stop by and shoot the breeze over a couple of… what are these, anyway?
The Questions
1)      You’re marooned on a small island with one person and one item of your choice—who is that person and what item do you have?

Doctor Who. Any of the Doctors would do, but I’m fondest of Tom Baker. Luckily, he comes with a TARDIS, which would be my item. With the Doctor and a TARDIS I could either escape the island or run off and have lots of great adventures. Win-win!

    2)   Which musical would you say best exemplifies your life – and which character in that musical are you?

Man of La Mancha. I’m Cervantes. He understood that dreamers, artists, and idealists are often ridiculed by others. It’s sad, but people suffer from being considered weird or undesirable when all they are is different from what other people want them to be. I’ve been different most of my life, always compared to other people I was told were better than me. Never good enough. It leaves a mark. Cervantes wrote a book about that mark, and this play explores its themes quite well.

3)      Take these three words and give me a 100 word or less scenario using them:  publicity, sofa , bench

“It’s just a publicity photo.”
That was easy for Jenn to say. She was the one holding a camera. I was standing in his birthday best. “But look at the specs! He wants me naked! Are you sure it doesn’t say he wants me posing outside on a park bench?”
“The sofa will do.” Jenn checked her lighting meter. “And show me that tush.”
I eyed the overstuffed faux fur sectional, pondering the odds of my genitals being stabbed by an errant nacho. Right now I hated Berthold Lorenz, modeling agent to the stars.

4)      You’ve just been let loose in the world of fiction, with permission to do anyone you want. Who do you fuck first and why?

I’m nothing if not consistent. Thor! Chris Hemsworth version, please. But only as Thor. He’s hot in other things… but I would totally do Thor. My husband will understand. He has permission to do his secret fantasy girl if he ever meets her.

    5) W hat is your idea of how to spend romantic time with your significant other?

On a cruise ship, in bed and doing wicked, lovely things to each other. But if we can’t get on a ship, the next best is to simply have a great meal, snuggle up on the couch, and watch some movie or series we both enjoy. And they we get to do wicked, lovely things to each other.

6)      When you start a new story, do you begin with a character, or a plot?

Sometimes a character, sometimes a setting. Almost never a plot. I need a character before I can conceive a plot, because characters drive plots and I prefer to follow characters than try to fit them into pre-conceived plots.

    7)   If they were to make the story of your life into a movie, who should play you?

Eden Sher, who plays Sue in The Middle on ABC. Great show and, well, Sue is me. Gullible, klutzy, considered hopelessly weird by her family and others. But she’s a perpetual optimist and always has a smile. If Eden Sher can play Sue, she can play me.

8)      Who’s your favorite horror villain and why?

I dislike horror movies and shows with a passion, though I make a handful of exceptions thanks to my husband, so… Chuckie. I mean, he’s a doll, a child’s toy. There’s something macabre and kind of ridiculous about a bloodthirsty doll that looks like a kid.

     9)   Do you have an historical crush and if so, who is it?

Ben Franklin. He’s my one true historical crush. I have permission to do him, but only the real Ben, which would necessitate time travel. But he was warm, witty, a man of profound ideas and intelligence who genuinely adored women… and I think he would be fun in bed.

10)   Is there a story that you’d like to tell but you think the world isn’t ready to receive it?

Yes. But I lived that one already. If I told it, no one would believe it. Worse, they’d rake me over the coals for being the most idiotic and trusting Too Stupid To Live heroine who ever made her way onto the printed page.

Oh, and I should mention I have a new story coming up in the Devil’s Night anthology being released by Storm Moon Press on October 19th. [HERE’S the link.] It can be pre-ordered until the 19th. My story is about a young man in La Paz seeking revenge. Unfortunately for him, he enlists the help of an Andean sorcerer who is an ancient serpent shifter determined to break a centuries old curse. That can only lead to no good.

Tali Spencer for Devil’s Night

Bio:

Tali Spencer is fascinated by swords, mythology, and everything ancient and magical. Several years ago, after sipping fermented corn liquor with an Aymara shaman in the Andes, she received a charm guaranteed to bring her the love of a wonderful man.  It worked.  She and her true love reside in Pennsylvania, where she creates alternate worlds through which her characters can roam, brawl, and find themselves in each other’s arms.

Thanks to a restless father, she grew up as a bit of a nomad and lived in more than a dozen U.S. states.  Her vagabond youth lives on in a tendency to travel whenever she can.  She’s not afraid of planes, horses, trains, or camels.  Her preference is for ships, however, and few things clear her mind like a week or two at sea.  On land, her favorite destinations are castles, museums, and archeological sites.  When not writing, she reads, experiments with food, or takes long walks with her loving, if slightly neurotic, poodle.

Blurb:

The infernal host is on the prowl. They want your soul, and they're not afraid to bargain for it. They'll promise you everything you could ever desire, but the price tag may be steeper than you can handle. Whether tempting and seducing mortals, defiling angels, or reveling among themselves, these fiendish creatures know that while good is okay, evil is just more fun.

Excerpt from “The Seventh Sacrifice”:

Two stone steps flanked by tables of packaged, prefabricated charms led to the narrow hole-in-the-wall that constituted a store.  Every spare millimeter of space was packed with arcane objects.  Fully furred llama fetuses with huge, black eyes and grimacing teeth hung from a pole over the doorway, while more of the samemummified and without furlay piled in baskets.  The dried husks of armadillos, toads, and starfish held sway among racks of cheap beads, brass bells, and trays of colored powders.  Beltran hoped the powders were herbs, but at least one looked like dried blood, and he knew the others could be anything from antlers to hooves, teeth, or bones.

But what caught his eye next, and took away his already scanty breath, was the man sitting on a stool just inside the doorway.  Black hair, straight and shining, framed a brown face with strong features and high cheekbones.  The heavy mane cascaded behind broad shoulders and a red poncho of alpaca wool.  As the man rose to his feet, Beltran saw that he was taller than most native men, with a wiry, powerful frame.  The shopkeeper’s eyes commanded him most of all: deep and black, they locked onto his with a hunger so fierce, the compulsion in them made him quiver.

Holy Mother of God, Beltran thought, forcing himself to breathe normally.  Marisol never told me her shaman would be gorgeous!

Thanks for stopping by, Tali, it's been fun! Stop by any time!

Until next time, take care!
